A digital device for the diagnosis of insulation systems

2004

A complete innovative measurement system (D2SI - device for the diagnosis of insulation systems) for both acquisition, analysis and processing of partial discharge signals generated in insulation systems under voltage stress (IEC standard), was designed and realized; several measurements on practical insulation systems demonstrated the full and correct equipment operation.

Modeling of trapped charge effects in ferroelectrics: application to piezoactuators

1997

The strain response of lead zirconate titanate piezoelectric multilayer actuators have been measured up to 10 7 N/m 2 stress and the 3.10 6 V/m periodic unipolar driving voltage. An additional nonstationary strain component is detected. This effect is explained in terms of a simple solution of polarization kinetics specific for unipolar driving voltage. Preliminary experimentally assertions are given for space charge effects which manifest itself in the strain as well as charge plot after removing the mechanical load. It demonstrates that the static load free equilibrium of the actuator is not complete and the charge recently supported by the piezo voltage and then trapped forms a nonunifor…

Electrochemical determination of boron in minerals and ceramic materials

2004

Abstract A method for quantitatively determining boron in minerals and ceramic materials is described. It is based on the abrasive attachment of mixtures of ZnO plus sample to PIGEs. After a reductive deposition step, square wave voltammograms recorded for those modified electrodes immersed into 0.10 M NaCl+0.25 M mannitol provide well-defined stripping peaks at −0.85 and −0.15 V vs. AgCl/Ag for the oxidation of Zn and B, respectively. The quotients between the peak areas and the peak currents for the stripping oxidation of B and Zn vary linearly with the molar ratio of B and Zn in the mixture, thus providing an electrochemical method for determining the boron content in solid samples. Chalcogenide-capped triiron clusters [Fe3(CO)9(μ3-E)2], [Fe3(CO)7(μ3-CO)(μ3-E)(μ-dppm)] and [Fe3(CO)7(μ3-E)2(μ-dppm)] (E = S, Se) as proton-reduction…

2019

Chalcogenide-capped triiron clusters [Fe3(CO)7(μ3-CO)(μ3-E)(μ-dppm)] and [Fe3(CO)7(μ3-E)2(μ-dppm)] (E = S, Se) have been examined as proton-reduction catalysts. Protonation studies show that [Fe3(CO)9(μ3-E)2] are unaffected by strong acids. Mono-capped [Fe3(CO)7(μ3-CO)(μ3-E)(μ-dppm)] react with HBF4.Et2O but changes in IR spectra are attributed to BF3 binding to the face-capping carbonyl, while bicapped [Fe3(CO)7(μ3-E)2(μ-dppm)] are protonated but in a process that is not catalytically important. DFT calculations are presented to support these protonation studies. Cyclic voltammetry shows that [Fe3(CO)9(μ3-Se)2] exhibits two reduction waves, and upon addition of strong acids, proton-reducti…

Synthesis, Optical and Electrical Properties of Oligo(phenylenevinylene)s Substituted with Electron-Accepting Sulfonyl Groups

2010

Oligo(phenylenevinylene)s (OPV) composed of five rings and electron donating or withdrawing sulfonyl substituents on the central and lateral rings have been investigated. Two strategies were used for the syntheses of the C2-symmetrical OPVs both include PO-activated olefinations as central steps. Six flexible side chains guarantee good solubility in toluene or dichloromethane. In solution and in films stabilised by polystyrene (60%), the chromophores are strongly fluorescent, with emissions in the violet-blue domain from solutions and in the green to orange region from solid films. The redox potentials, determined by cyclic voltammetry, and the optical properties are strongly depending on t…

Direct sunlight facility for testing and research in HCPV

2014

A facility for testing different components for HCPV application has been developed in the framework of "Fotovoltaico ad Alta Efficienza" (FAE) project funded by the Sicilian Regional Authority (PO FESR Sicilia 2007/2013 4.1.1.1). The testing facility is equipped with an heliostat providing a wide solar beam inside the lab, an optical bench for mounting and aligning the HCPV components, electronic equipments to characterize the I-V curves of multijunction cells operated up to 2000 suns, a system to circulate a fluid in the heat sink at controlled temperature and flow-rate, a data logging system with sensors to measure temperatures in several locations and fluid pressures at the inlet and ou…

Overirradiance (Cloud Enhancement) Events at High Latitudes

2013

Contrary to intuition, solar irradiance peaks at partially cloudy conditions. Clouds can boost sunlight by over 1.5 times, even at high latitudes. Depending on cloud velocity, the bursts last from seconds to minutes. Measuring irradiance on a tilted surface with 10-ms resolution allows for a detailed study of such events in Southern Norway, almost at sea level. All monthly maxima from April through September 2011 exceeded 1300 W/m2. The slow sensor registered an annual maximum of 1413 W/m2, while the fast sensor's range was found insufficient. A burst reaching 1528 W/m2 was registered in June 2012. Near the Equator, bursts exceeding 1800 W/m2 have been observed. These numbers are striking s…

Adaptive Energy Management Strategy for Optimal Power Flow Control of Hybrid DC Microgrid

2020

In this work, an adaptive energy management strategy (AEMS) is proposed to achieve the optimal power flow control of off grid connected hybrid DC Microgrid (MG) against time varying source and load dynamics. The hybrid DC MG considered in this paper is operating with a solar PV array and mini hydro power plant (MHPP) as power dispatching sources. The intermittent input dynamics of solar PV system and time varying load power dynamics results in power fluctuations of hybrid DC MG. The MHPP cannot regulate these power fluctuations instantly due its operating dynamics. Therefore, AEMS has deployed a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) comprising battery and supercapacitor storage devices for co…

Impact of non-idealities on the conductance characteristics of superconductor-insulator-normal metal-insulator-superconductor tunnel junctions

2012

We have investigated the effect of asymmetry in tunnelling resistance of individual normal metal-insulator-superconductor (NIS) tunnel junctions that constitute a SINIS pair, both experimentally and theoretically. Ours results clearly demonstrate that any finite asymmetry in the tunnelling resistance gives rise to an excess current, as compared to its symmetric counterpart, both below and around the gap edge. The signature of this excess current is visible almost up to the critical temperature. We find that this apparent broadening of the density of states is purely electrical in origin. Our calculations also show that any finite resistance that is in series with the tunnelling resistance, …
