2016
Impact of Novel Energy Management Actions on Household Appliances for Money Savings and CO2 Emissions Reduction
2009
In order to obtain CO2 emissions reductions, energy management control actions inside apartments and detached houses have to be carried out. In this work, new control actions devoted to the reduction of electrical energy consumptions inside typical Italian apartments are proposed. These “Distributed on Site” (DoS) actions consist in employing specific control strategies to smartly exploit the hot water provided by a solar panel, the electricity generated by a photovoltaic panel and the delayed starting of appliances.
Cobalt Electrolyte/Dye Interactions in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells: A Combined Computational and Experimental Study
2012
We report a combined experimental and computational investigation to understand the nature of the interactions between cobalt redox mediators and TiO2 surfaces sensitized by :ruthenium and organic dyes, and their impact on. the performance of the corresponding dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). We : focus: on different ruthenium dyes and fully organic dyes, to understand the dramatic loss of efficiency observed for the prototype Ru(II) N719 dye in conjunction with :Cobalt: electrolytes. Both N719- and Z907-based DSSCs showed an increased lifetime in iodine-based electrolyte compared to the cobalt-based redox-shuttle; While the organic D21L6 and D25L6 cycles endowed. With long alkoxy chains,…
Identification of inorganic pigments from paintings and polychromed sculptures immobilized into polymer film electrodes by stripping differential pul…
2000
Abstract Inorganic pigments in paintings and polychromed sculptures are studied by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse stripping voltammetry using micro-sample coatings in Paraloid B72-film modified electrodes. Characteristic cathodic and anodic differential pulse profiles were obtained in the +0.4 to −1.0 V vs. SCE potential range for different cadmium, copper, lead, mercury and zinc pigments used in traditional colour palettes. Under optimized conditions, excellent reproducibility was obtained. Microsamples extracted from polychromed sculptures, wall paintings, canvas paintings, panel paintings and altarpieces from Spain, Ethiopia and Italy from the 12th to the 20th centuries have b…
Formation and Stability of Cadmium(II)/Phytate Complexes by Different Electrochemical Techniques. Critical Analysis of Results
2010
In the present work the stability constants of various cadmium(II)/phytate (Phy) species were determined at T = 298.15 K in NaNO3(aq) at I = 0.1 mol·L−1 by DP-ASV (Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry) and by potentiometric titrations using an ISE-Cd2+. Cyclic voltammograms were also recorded to check the electrochemical behavior of cadmium in the presence of phytate. The results were analyzed together with previous data determined by ISE-H+ measurements. Data obtained were used to provide an exhaustive speciation scheme for the phytate/cadmium(II) system at different conditions, as well as a comprehensive representation of the binding ability of phytate toward cadmium(II). Diffe…
Direct inverse voltammetric determination of Pb, Cu and Cd in some edible oils after solubilization
1995
The direct determination of traces of certain heavy metals in oils is possible after treatment of the methanolic sample solution with Lumatom (tetramethylammoniumhydroxide). For the inverse voltammetric determination, a flow through cell with a mercury film electrode is used. The results for the determination of Cu and Pb in some edible oils after solubilization agree well with those obtained using wet oxidative high pressure ashing.
Persistent activity in layer 5 pyramidal neurons following cholinergic activation of mouse primary cortices
2011
Persistent spiking activity is thought to be a cellular process involved in working memory. We have been interested in whether persistent activity also exists in cortical areas which are not involved in this memory process. To study the possible presence and the mechanisms of persistent activity in layer 5 pyramidal cells of the mouse primary somatosensory, visual and motor cortices, we used patch-clamp and calcium imaging techniques. A combination of cholinergic receptor activation and suprathreshold depolarization or sufficient extracellular stimulation leads to either a subthreshold afterdepolarization or suprathreshold persistent activity in these cortices. There is a continuum of respo…
Co-expression of the voltage-gated potassium channel Kv1.4 with transient receptor potential channels (TRPV1 and TRPV2) and the cannabinoid receptor …
2006
Potassium channels contribute to basic neuronal excitability and modulation. Here, we examined expression patterns of the voltage-gated potassium channel Kv1.4, the nociceptive transduction channels TRPV1 and TRPV2 as well as the putative anti-nociceptive cannabinoid receptor CB1 by immunofluorescence double-labelings in sections of rat dorsal root ganglia (DRGs). Kv1.4, TRPV1 and CB1 were each detected in about one third of neurons (35.7+/-0.5%, 29.4+/-1.1% and 36.4+/-0.5%, respectively, mean diameter 19.1+/-0.3 microm). TRPV2 was present in 4.4+/-0.4% of all neurons that were significantly larger in diameter (27.4+/-0.7 microm; P < 0.001). Antibody double-labeling revealed that the majori…
Power-Line Communication in Medium-Voltage System: Simulation Model and Onfield Experimental Tests
2012
The aim of this paper is to develop a complete model of a power-line communication (PLC) system operating on a medium-voltage (MV) network. The core-shield configuration was chosen for signal transmission in the power cables. In order to validate the developed model experimental, the medium-voltage network of the Favignana island was used to carry out detailed testing. The transmission was performed between two transformer substations in the presence of mains voltage (i.e., 24 kV). ST7540 FSK power-line transceivers, together with capacitive coupling interfaces, were used for the transmission and the reception of the communication signal. The correlation between the experimental measurement…
Effect of low amount of nanosilica on dielectric properties of polypropylene
2010
This paper presents the results of the dielectric properties measurements conducted on Silica-Polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites. According to prior investigations by the authors silica nanoparticles have improved the performance of the dielectric material considering capacitor applications. Especially breakdown strengths with ac and dc voltages and resistance against surface degradation have increased. The relative permittivity and dielectric losses have also been comparable to reference PP. In this paper the results of the dielectric measurements conducted on composites with 1-2 wt-% silica are compared with reference PP. Silica dispersion in PP was confirmed with transmission electron mic…
