Construction of a webgis tool based on a gis semiautomated processing for the localization of p2g plants in sicily (Italy)

2021

The recent diffusion of RES (Renewable Energy Sources), considering the electric energy produced by photovoltaic and wind plants, brought to light the problem of the unpredictable nature of wind and solar energy. P2G (Power to Gas) implementation seems to be the right solution, transforming curtailed energy in hydrogen. The choice of the settlement of P2G plants is linked to many factors like the distances between the gas grid and the settlement of RES plants, the transportation networks, the energy production, and population distribution. In light of this, the implementation of a Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) into a Geographic Information System (GIS) processing represents a good strategy …

A Search for the Hidden King: Messianism, Prophecies and Royal Epiphanies of the Kings of Aragon (circa 1250-1520)

2019

Modern historiography has studied the influence of messianic and millennialist ideas in the Crown of Aragon extensively and, more particularly, how they were linked to the Aragonese monarchy. To date, research in the field of art history has mainly considered royal iconography from a different point of view: through coronation, historical or dynastic images. This article will explore the connections, if any, between millennialist prophetic visions and royal iconography in the Crown of Aragon using both texts and the figurative arts, bearing in mind that sermons, books and images shared a common space in late medieval audiovisual culture, where royal epiphanies took place. The point of depar…

Rivolte e conflitti a Girgenti nel biennio 1647-48

2008

Solar heating and cooling systems versus conventional systems assisted by photovoltaic: Application of a simplified LCA tool

2016

Abstract Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an effective methodology to assess the energy and environmental impacts of energy systems during their life cycle, including manufacturing, operation and end-of-life. The aim of the paper is the application of a simplified LCA tool, developed in the framework of the International Energy Agency Solar Heating and Cooling Task 48, for comparing different typologies of solar assisted heating and cooling systems. In detail, solar thermal heating and cooling systems located in Palermo (southern Italy) and in Zurich (Switzerland) were compared with conventional systems assisted by grid connected and stand-alone photovoltaic plants. A validation of the tool w…

Voltammetric analysis of iron oxide pigments

2002

Eighteen earthy and four pure synthetic pigments containing alpha-Fe2O3 (hematite), alpha-FeOOH (goethite) and poorly crystalline Fe and Mn oxide species were analyzed by voltammetry of microparticles. Three natural samples were subjected to an interlaboratory test to evaluate the reproducibility of the voltammetric peak potentials and peak shapes. The results confirmed that linear-sweep voltammetry is able to distinguish between poorly crystalline, ferrihydrite-like oxides and well-crystalline hematite and goethite and to detect XRD-amorphous Mn(III,IV) oxides via the peak occurrence. Voltammetry is further able to distinguish between pigments containing well-crystalline goethite (accordin…

Mapping of corrosion products of highly altered archeological iron using voltammetry of microparticles

2013

The application of the voltammetry of microparticles to identify corrosion products on different localizations of highly altered archeological iron pieces is described. The use of graphite pencil methodology permits to mapping different corrosion products, namely, akaganeite, goethite, hematite, jarosite, magnetite, maghemite and siderite, in iron artifacts. Identification protocols are based on square wave voltammetric measurements performed at sample-modified paraffin-impregnated graphite electrodes immersed into aqueous HCl. This methodology is applied for mapping corrosion products on an Iberian Roman shield boss from the Torre la Sal archeological site (Oropesa, Spain) dated in the IVt…

Identification of Earth Pigments by Applying Hierarchical Cluster Analysis to Solid State Voltammetry. Application to Severely Damaged Frescoes

2007

Multivariate chemometric methods are applied for identifying earth pigments from square-wave voltammetric measurements performed at pigment-modified paraffin-impregnated graphite electrodes allowing for a separation between hematite-based earths, French ochres, Spanish ochres, siennas, umbers and green earths. This methodology is applied to the identification of the pigments in samples from the ceiling frescoes of Antonio Palomino (dated 1707) in the vaulted nave of the Sant Joan del Mercat church in Valencia (Spain). These frescoes suffered considerable damage by fire during the Spanish Civil War in 1936, resulting in severe chemical and chromatic alterations. Electrochemical data, support…

Enhanced efficiency in plastic planar heterojunction solar cells by AuNPs positioned at donor-acceptor interfaces

2018

A new class of copolymers containing oligothiophene moieties with different length and fullerene units have been designed and prepared by an easy and inexpensive one-step synthetic approach. The incorporation of small quantities of these copolymers into bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells with donor regioregular polythiophene (P3HT) and acceptor fullerene derivate (PCBM) results in a good control of the phase separation process without further affecting the BHJ optoelectronic properties. Indeed, these copolymers allow modulating under thermal annealing the growth of domains whose size depends on the length of the copolymer repetitive units. Domain size on the same length scale of the P3HT…

GRID STABILITY IMPROVEMENT BY RES-BASED GENERATORS AND BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS IN SMALL ISLANDS

2021

The integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) with power electronics interface to the grid, without the back-up of rotating inertia, endangers frequency stability. This issue becomes particularly critical in isolated power systems, like those of small islands not supplied by the main grid, in the case of high shares of production from unpredictable renewables such as photovoltaic and wind sources. Consequently, to preserve the security and the reliability of these systems, it is necessary to adopt new frequency adjustments mechanisms. In this context, the thesis investigates the transition toward an economically and technically feasible generating system based on RES, to achieve specifi…

Decoupled Control Scheme of Grid-Connected Split-Source Inverters

2017

During the last few years, single-stage power conversion systems has undergone a fast evolution to replace the conventional two-stage architecture, which includes a front-end dc-dc boost converter (BC) and an output voltage source inverter (VSI) [1]. This evolution has grown up to improve the overall system performance in terms of reducing its size, weight, and complexity. Most of these single-stage topologies and their different modulation schemes have been reviewed in [1]. Among these different single-stage options, the split-source inverter (SSI), shown in Figure 1, has been recently proposed in [2] as a single-stage dc-ac power converter topology to overcome some demerits in the other s…
