Evidence for the neuronal origin of immunoreactive interleukin-1 beta released by rat hypothalamic explants.

In this study, we have investigated the release of immunoreactive interleukin-1 beta (irIL-1 beta) from the rat hypothalamus in vitro. It was found that (1) tissue explants release sizable amounts of irIL-1 beta (ranging from 0.43 to 0.52 pg/mg of wet tissue) in 20 min incubations; (2) basal release in significantly increased by depolarization induced with 56 mM KCl; (3) K(+)-induced irIL-1 beta release is inhibited by the specific blocker of N-type calcium channels, omega-conotoxin, and by verapamil, but not by nifedipine; (4) K(+)-induced release is also inhibited by the Na+ channel blockers tetrodotoxin and lidocaine; (5) irIL-1 beta release is significantly increased by noradrenalin; su…

Electrically-evoked release of [3H]acetylcholine from autonomic neurons (myenteric plexus), motoneurons (phrenic nerve) and the central nervous system (neocortex) was investigated in the presence and absence of the calcium channel antagonists omega-conotoxin GVIA, nifedipine and verapamil, whereby the same species (rat) was used in all experiments. The effects of alpha 1-adrenoceptor stimulation on transmembrane potential, currents and ion fluxes were investigated in multicellular preparations and/or single cells obtained from the left atrium of rat hearts. 2. Dietary (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids exert antihypertensive effects by modulating calcium signaling in T cells of rats.

After 10 wk of feeding an experimental diet enriched with (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), i.e., eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA, 20:5(n-3)] and [DHA, 22:6(n-3)] (EPAX), blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR), but not in normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats was reduced relative to rats fed an unsupplemented control diet. Layered Thiadiazoloquinoxaline-Containing Long Pyrene-Fused N-Heteroacenes

Three thiadiazoloquinoxaline-containing long pyrene-fused N-heteroacenes with 8, 13, and 18 rings were designed and synthesized. They show high electron affinities (EAs) of approximately 4.1 eV, which were derived from the onset of the reduction peaks in cyclic voltammetry. Crystal structure analysis revealed in-plane extension through close contacts between thiadiazole units as well as layered packing, enabling in-plane and interlayer electron transport. Organic field-effect transistor devices provided electron mobilities, which suggest a potential way to enhance the charge transport in long N-heteroacenes.
