Visioni dell’America. Viaggio, spazialità e narrazione in De Amicis e Amado
2021
Lucian, a new Odysseus? : role and issue of a Homeric character in the work of Lucian of Samosata
2015
The aim of our thesis, which comes within the scope of considering the process of rewriting classic texts in the time period of the second sophistic, is to study the unique importance of Odysseus in the writings of Lucian of Samosata. At first, Odysseus is distinguished from Achilles, a character more monolithic who, even in Homer’s works is constructed in contrast to Odysseus. Moreover, from an isolated quote to intricate references, scattered to create echoes between works seemingly very different, the context in which Odysseus appears is more elaborate and subtler than that of Achilles. Hence, studying and comparing references to both heroes is sufficient to imply Odysseus’ primacy, asso…
Récit de voyage et expérience de l'espace : la Méditerranée écrite et vécue par Josep Piera
2018
Based on some literary extracts (autobiographical prose and poetry) of the Valencian writer Josep Piera, the relationship between the experience of the journey and the writing that comes along as a result of it is analyzed. Three key concepts are discussed : the journey, the Mediterranean and literature. As we will see, the Mediterranean is understood here as a close and familiar world : a mythical, historical, cultural and vital geographical space. The places visited (Greece, Naples, Sicily, etc.) interact and produce a dialogue with the geographical space and the notion of human time.

Charles Nodier’s summer ambulations through Scotland in 1821 were to spawn a genre: the romantic travelogue. The reader is invited on a journey through age-old legends and oneiric cartography, through the fogs of ancient Caledonia and modern Scotland, and into the land of goblins and fairies.
Le storytelling dans la communication touristique d'un pays : L'exemple de l'Ecosse
2015
A travel involves money, time and imagination. It plays a significant role in the creation of the tourists’ identities. Theoretically, touristic communication consists of an organization that formulates a message and an audience, who interprets it, with different motivations but at least an interest. This enunciative relation has twists and turns: perceptions, emotions, influences affect the message and change its intended meaning. The people who advertise the destination must consider these gaps in interpretation to incite potential tourists to discover a place. There is a category of communication called “storytelling”, especially with the contribution of local people, which presents test…
Città e architettura moderna in Sicilia nelle vedute del Voyage di Saint-Non: Attrazione e deformazione
2018
Some of the views in the fourth volume of the Voyage Pittoresque by the Abbot of Saint-Non, published in two parts (1785 and 1786) in Paris, reproduce architectural structures and urban settings of Sicily in the modern era. Among the places chosen by the architects and painters who took part in the campaign carried out between 1777 and 1778, those relating to the architecture of the time were considerably fewer in number (five out of a total of one hundred and forty subjects). They regarded the city of Palermo and three major episcopal towns: Mazara, Syracuse and Catania. In light of the coeval pictorial taste for ruins of classical antiquity, this numerical disproportion reflected the purp…
