Over the past few decades and up until 2017, Sicily has hosted increasing numbers of African fugitives into the European Union. Within this markedly multicultural context, the authors carried out a two-part qualitative research project, the first part consisting in participative observation of a number of sub-Saharan women hosted by some of the island’s refugee reception centres, victims of abuse, followed by a set of semi-structured interviews administered to them. L’articolo descrive i risultati di una ricerca qualitativa, finanziata dalla Comunità Europea, finalizzata a conoscere il grado di riconoscimento della violenza di prossimità di cui sono vittima i rifugiati/richiedenti asilo da parte degli operatori che lavorano nel circuito dell’accoglienza nei CAS e negli SPRAR siciliani. La ricerca ha previsto la conduzione di 78 interviste a stakeholders. Il tema della violenza di prossimità viene quindi indagato attraverso le testimonianze degli operatori intervistati e la pluralità di cause e situazioni che la rendono possibile. Italy has a universal health care system that covers, in principle, the whole resident population, irrespective of citizenship and legal status. This study calculates the prevalence of unmet need for medical care among Italian citizens, regular and irregular immigrants and estimates logistic regression models to assess whether differences by citizenship and legal status hold true once adjusting for potential confounders. The analysis is based on two Surveys on Income and Living Conditions of Italian households and households with foreigners.
