Criteri per l’analisi post-danno – Criteria for post-damage analysis.

2010

2016

International audience; The gustation is a dynamic system able to rapid physiological adaptations in response to on-going environmental changes that characterize our feed (rhythm, quality, quantity). Based on the modulation of taste sensitivity thresholds, this homeostatic system contributes to build the feeding behavior by driving the food choices. Therefore, a dysfunction of this regulatory system might impact on dietary habits and thus, ultimately, on health. Consistent with this assumption, recent data report that a diet-induced obesity is associated both with a dysfunction of the oral fat detection system and a preferential consumption of fat-rich diets in rats and mice. In humans, a s…

Residential mobility as a cause and consequence of vulnerability among the elderly in Reunion Island

2021

Economic Structure and Vulnerability to Organised Crime: Evidence from Sicily

2008

The economic analysis of organised crime suggests that some economic activities are particularly vulnerable to penetration by criminal organisations. This paper provides an analysis of the structure of the Sicilian economy and shows that, when compared with other Italian regions, it is characterised by a disproportionate presence of such activities. In particular, the economy of Sicily appears characterised by: (i) a large dimension of traditional sectors, such as the Construction sector, which also has a strong territorial specificity; (ii) a large presence of small firms; (iii) a low level of technology; (iii) a large public sector. The joint presence of these features creates fertile soi…

Environmental Enrichment During Adolescence Mitigates Cognitive Deficits and Alcohol Vulnerability due to Continuous and Intermittent Perinatal Alcoh…

2020

Perinatal alcohol exposure affects ontogenic neurodevelopment, causing physical and functional long-term abnormalities with limited treatment options. This study investigated long-term consequences of continuous and intermittent maternal alcohol drinking on behavioral readouts of cognitive function and alcohol vulnerability in the offspring. The effects of environmental enrichment (EE) during adolescence were also evaluated. Female rats underwent continuous alcohol drinking (CAD)—or intermittent alcohol drinking paradigm (IAD), along pregestation, gestation, and lactation periods—equivalent to the whole gestational period in humans. Male offspring were reared in standard conditions or EE un…

VIOLENZA DI PROSSIMITÀ. CURA PASTORALE E VULNERABILITÀ SOCIALE

2022

2022

The chapter summarizes some of the theoretical passages that characterize the unfolding of proximity violence. It highlights the consequences in migrant women and refugees seeking asylum. It highlights how the vulnerability of the less equipped subjects favors remaining in a circuit of ritual and normalized violence

The Trap of Proximity Violence. Research and Insights into Male Dominance and Female Resistance

2020

This book aims at shifting the emphasis from a general vision of gender-based violence to a more opaque, yet equally destructive one, that related to "proximity violence". The investigative tension of this book aims at bringing to light the crevasses where violence lurks ready to return in disguise as well as the lairs where it hides. Like a whirlwind, violence appears in all its destructive might and disappears. Precisely because violence is of a proxemic kind it is hard to position with respect to those who wish to objectify it. Its screens are many and the causes that feed it are endowed with a good dose of relational and lexical ambiguity. Because it is profoundly unjust, unfair, wrong,…

Strategies for enhancing the impact of interventions in chronic health: a transnational qualitative meta-study on sampling, recruiting and communicat…

2021

The psychosocial vulnerability of individuals and communities (and vice versa) is determined by a complex network of circumstances that should be analysed from an intersectional and relational approach. The greater vulnerability affecting individuals and communities impairs their health literacy, access to healthcare and communication with health professionals, which impacts their decision-making process and their self-management of health abilities. The progress towards health equality requires an in-depth structural reform, policy-making and empowerment of these communities; besides, the training and information available for social and healthcare professionals are scarce and not systemat…
