Sensitization in early age to food allergens in children with atopic dermatitis
2007
Background: Clinical and laboratory evidence increasingly supports the notion that food allergy plays a role in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD). However, the prevalence of clinically significant food hypersensitivity among children with AD remains an unanswered question. Objective: To prospectively determine the prevalence of IgE-mediated food hypersensitivity among patients referred to a dermatology department for evaluation of AD, and to analyze the clinical relevance of these sensitizations in AD. Methods: We studied 44 infants of both sexes, aged less than 12 months old, who attended the dermatology department with symptoms of AD. Compliance with Hanifin-Rajka criteria was co…
The "red umbilicus": a diagnostic sign of cow's milk protein intolerance
2006
Introduction: Red umbilicus is considered to be an infectious disease typical of neonates. In our experience, umbilical erythema could be due to cow's milk protein intolerance (CMPI). Aims: To evaluate the frequency and clinical significance of umbilical erythema in a series of consecutive children referred for suspected CMPI. Patients and Methods: Seven hundred ninety-six consecutive patients (median age, 18 months) referred for suspected CMPI diagnosis were studied. CMPI diagnosis was based on the disappearance of symptoms on elimination diet and their subsequent reappearance on double-blind placebo-controlled cow's milk challenge. Results: CMPI was diagnosed in 384 patients: 120 with res…
Creating Better Human Motivation Theories for Personal Flourishing in Organizations
2017
In order to pursue organizational objectives effectively and to develop skills and virtues that lead to flourishing in the workplace, motivation has to be properly understood and explained. This study contends that the classical and most popular taxonomies describing employee motives and needs have either neglected or minimized the importance of the ethical and spiritual dimensions of motivation, resulting in a model of a person as self-interested, amoral and non-spiritual. This work summarizes, discusses and expands some of the ideas recently published by the author and two other colleagues in the Journal of Business Ethics. There they presented a new categorization of motivations that bri…
The Needs that Individuals and Organizations Seek to Fulfil by Contemporary Employment Agreements: The Case of Latvia
2015
The paper analyses a contemporary employment deal looking for the answers to the question: “What needs do individuals and organizations seek to fulfil by employment in Latvia?” To answer this question the authors have developed the individual-organizational values exchange model based on E. Schein’s organizational culture formation model suggesting that the behaviour of individuals and organizations mirrors the basic values and needs of both actors. The needs are studied applying A. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

Signal selection acceptance times efficiency (A$\times \epsilon$), defined as the ratio of the number of MC signal events in the category to the number of generated signal events, as a function of the HVT resonance mass for the quark-antiquark production. The $A\times\epsilon$ is shown for each decay channel and the inclusive one. The decay of $W$ and $Z$ are to all flavors of leptons. The uncertainty shown represents the total statistical and systematic uncertainties.

The signal selection acceptance times efficiency (A$\times \epsilon$), defined as the ratio of the number of MC signal events in the category to the number of generated signal events, is presented as a function of the HVT resonance mass in the VBF category. The A$\times \epsilon$ is shown for the combination of all decay channels. For the HVT VBF samples, generator cuts are: m$_{jj} >$ 150 GeV. The decay of $W$ and $Z$ are to all flavors of leptons. The uncertainty shown represents the total statistical and systematic uncertainties.

Stoïlow’s theorem revisited
2020
Stoilow's theorem from 1928 states that a continuous, open, and light map between surfaces is a discrete map with a discrete branch set. This result implies that such maps between orientable surfaces are locally modeled by power maps z -> z(k) and admit a holomorphic factorization. The purpose of this expository article is to give a proof of this classical theorem having readers in mind that are interested in continuous, open and discrete maps. (C) 2019 Elsevier GmbH.
