Multi-user interference mitigation under limited feedback requirements for WCDMA systems with base station cooperation

2016

One of the techniques that has been recently identified for dealing with multi-user interference (MUI) in future communications systems is base station (BS) cooperation or joint processing. However, perfect MUI cancellation with this technique demands severe synchronization requirements, perfect and global channel state information (CSI), and an increased backhaul and signaling overhead. In this paper, we consider a more realistic layout with the aim of mitigating the MUI, where only local CSI is available at the BSs. Due to synchronization inaccuracies and errors in the channel estimation, the system becomes partially asynchronous. In the downlink of wideband code division multiple access …

Handover and Uplink Power Control Performance in the 3.84 Mcps TDD mode of UTRA Network

2003

In this article we consider the performance of the 3.84 Mcps time-division duplex (TDD) mode of UTRA (Universal Terrestrial Radio Access) network. We emphasize two of the radio resource management algorithms, handover and uplink power control, whose role in the overall system performance is studied extensively. First, a handover algorithm used in WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) standard is considered in a TDD-mode operation. This gives rise to a careful setting of different handover parameters, and the evaluation of the effects to the system performance. Secondly, the specified uplink power control algorithm is considered. Since it is based on several user-made measurements w…

On Serving Cell Change Reliability in HSDPA Network

2009

In Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) networks the Signaling Radio Bearer (SRB) is transmitted downlink to inform the user i.a. when it needs to make a handover. When transmitting e.g. Voice over IP (VoIP) on High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) SRB is mapped on HSDPA user data channel, High-Speed Downlink Shared Channel (HS-DSCH) in order to maximize voice capacity. The lack of support for soft handover (SHO) of HS-DSCH may compromise the reception of SRB and thus also a possible incoming serving HSDPA cell change command especially at the cell borders. This can lead to serious VoIP service degradation due to prolonged camping on a poor cell and in the worst case even to c…
