Proposal of a reference section and point for the Cambrian Series 2-3 boundary in the Mediterranean subprovince in Murero (NE Spain) and its intercon…
2011
The classical lower-middle Cambrian boundary is approximately equivalent with the boundary of the Cambrian Series 2 and 3, which is now in the process of definition by the International Subcommission on Cambrian Stratigraphy. Currently, there are two oryctocephalid trilobite species first appearance data (FAD) that are suggested as possible markers of this level: Ovatoryctocara granulata Tchernysheva, 1962 and Oryctocephalus indicus (Reed, 1910), respectively. Until now neither of these two species has been recorded in the Mediterranean subprovince or Baltica. As a result, in these regions a level potentially correlating with either the FAD of Ovatoryctocara granulata or Oryctocephalus indi…
The oldest rocks of Greece: first evidence for a Precambrian terrane within the Pelagonian Zone
2005
The Pelagonian Zone in Greece represents the westernmost belt of the Hellenide hinterland (Internal Hellenides). Previous geochronological studies of basement rocks from the Pelagonian Zone have systematically yielded Permo-Carboniferous ages. In this study we demonstrate, for the first time, the existence of a Precambrian crustal unit within the crystalline basement of the Pelagonian Zone. The U–Pb single-zircon and SHRIMP ages of these orthogneisses vary from 699 ± 7 Ma to 713 ± 18 Ma, which identify them as the oldest rocks in Greece. These Late Proterozoic rocks, which today occupy an area of c. 20 × 100 km, are significantly different from the neighbouring rocks of the Pelagonian Zone.…
Direct dating of gold by radiogenic helium: Testing the method on gold from Diamantina, Minas Gerais, Brazil
2013
New analytical developments have made radiogenic helium ( 4 He) applicable to archeological gold artifacts for age determinations. Here we report the application of the U/Th– 4 He method to the direct dating of gold from the historically important gold deposit in Diamantina, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The U/Th– 4 He age of 515 ± 55 Ma for the Diamantina gold is corroborated by a new U/Pb age of 524 ± 16 Ma for rutile recovered from auriferous pockets. These ages tie the Diamantina gold mineralization to the Brasiliano orogenic event, in the context of the Gondwana amalgamation. Our results indicate that U/Th– 4 He dating of gold is possible, opening new perspectives for the dating of gold deposi…
Shear-zone patterns and eclogite-facies metamorphism in the Mozambique belt of northern Malawi, east-central Africa: implications for the assembly of…
2002
Abstract We report on the first occurrence of Pan-African eclogite from the Mozambique belt of northern Malawi, east-central Africa. We describe aspects of (1) the pattern of Pan-African transcurrent and subhorizontal shear zones and how these shear zones relate to eclogite-facies metamorphism and (2) the P – T – t evolution of the eclogite. Finally, we discuss the significance of eclogite-facies metamorphism and shear-zone deformation for the assembly of Gondwana. The first major deformation event involved sinistral and dextral transcurrent and top-ESE shearing and occurred at ∼580–550 Ma. Transcurrent and top-ESE shearing resulted from ESE–WNW horizontal crustal shortening and commenced u…
Pan-African granulite formation in the Kabye Massif of northern Togo (West Africa): Pb−Pb zircon ages
2000
Metamorphic zircons from seven granulite facies orthogneisses of tonalitic composition (ender- bites), collected from four different nappes of the Kabye Massif in the Dahomeyide belt of northern Togo, were dated by the Pb-Pb evaporation method. They yielded consistent Neoproterozoic ages with a mean of 612.5 0.8 Ma, interpreted to reflect the peak of regional granulite facies metamorphism following Pan-African continental collision between the West African and Benin-Nigerian plates. These results sup- port previous ages obtained by various chronometers on high-grade rocks from the same suture zone and from surrounding units in Togo, Benin and Ghana. They are also similar to zircon ages fr…
Rwanda, 1994-2014. Histoire, mémoires et récits
2017
2022
Jubileusz 50-lecia powstania diecezji opolskiej jest dobrą okazją, by uchwycić i opisać jej specyfikę w wielu obszarach.
Brief an Garlieb H. Merkel
1798
Primary omental tumor with ultrastructural features of cellular schwannoma and absence of S-100 antigen reactivity.
1989
Summary We report a primary well-delimited, large mesenchymal omental neoplasm which appeared in a 58 year old man without neurofibromatous traces. The histological and ultrastructural features were consistent with a Schwann cell origin. However, repeated immunohistochemical reactions failed to demonstrate protein S-100 antigen reactivity in the neoplasic cells, the latter only expressing vimentin. The differential diagnosis with hemangiopericytoma is proposed.
Circuit Theory and the Employment Issue.
2005
The circuit is a time-honoured concept in economics. It can be traced back to the Physiocrats of eighteenth-century France, who viewed production as a circular process initiated by advances, that is, capital expenditures which are recouped when goods are produced and then sold. Ever since then, however, this conception, without being explicitly discarded, has been left on the sidelines. For instance, Schumpeter, Keynes, Kalecki and J. Robinson, to mention twentieth-century economists only, undoubtedly made allowance for the circuit but did not give it prominence.1 In fact, the idea of making use of this conception as a research tool remained largely dormant until the late 1960s in France an…
