Detailed correlation, based on conodont sequences, between middle and upper Lochkovian carbonate successions from two key peri-Gondwanan regions, the Spanish Central Pyrenees and the Prague Synform, is attained for the first time. This correlation facilitates the definition of tie points for further multidisciplinary studies that seek to establish high-resolution temporal subdivision and global correlation. Some intervals have a precision of less than 0.5 Ma, which is significantly greater than in previous studies. Abstract Palaeomagnetic results from fourteen sites (56 samples) in the late Precambrian Chela Group of southwest Angola are reported. After alternating field demagnetization eight of the sites have mean directions closely grouped around D = 123°, I = −44 1 2 ° ; the dispersion of these directions increases substantially after tectonic corrections suggesting magnetic overprinting. Intensive thermal demagnetization proved more effective than alternating field demagnetization in resolving magnetic components. We here argue the need for a multidisciplinary, integrated geophysical/geological survey across southern India and Sri Lanka, part of the largest exposed Neoproterozoic high-grade metamorphic terrain in the world. Abstract Ecology and tempo of the Lower Palaeozoic radiation of echinoderms are discussed in this paper based on comparison of the diversity patterns observed in Cambro–Ordovician faunas from Laurentia and the northern Gondwana margin. The Cambrian ‘agronomic revolution’ triggered a global radiation of echinoderms, with the progressive disappearance of biomat-related lifestyles, and the colonisation of new environments. We present new palaeomagnetic data for Cambrian and Ordovician volcanic and sedimentary rocks from the Kyrgyz North Tianshan (NTS) and review available data from the southwestern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) to elucidate the tectonic history and evolution of this region during the early Palaeozoic. We observed a coherent evolution of the NTS and the Kazakhstan continent (or Kazakhstania) with a constant northwards movement between the Cambrian and Devonian at ∼5 cm/a. An 11-year-old girl was found to have severely reduced β-galactocerebrosidase activity as evidence of late-onset globoid cell leukodystrophy, while her mother had almost normal enzyme activity in circulating white blood cells. Clinically, the patient showed a remitting course marked by seizures, ataxia, white-matter disease on computed tomographic scan, and reduced conduction velocities of peripheral nerves. Symptoms improved somewhat around the age of 10 years. Two sural nerve biopsies, performed 6 years apart, disclosed a demyelinating neuropathy. Hybrid schwannoma-perineurioma represents a cutaneous, subcutaneous or occasionally intra-osseous tumour with schwannian cytomorphology and perineurioma-like architecture consisting of a mixture of both types of cells. A striking feature of cellular blue nevus consists in the presence, in its histologic picture, of numerous hypertrophic nerves and nerve-like figures, positive for histochemical and immunohistochemical methods for nerve fibers and myelin sheaths. These findings, first described in Masson's original article and repeatedly highlighted in the past for their possible histogenetic significance, are currently considered as merely coincidental.
