Partial least squares-near infrared determination of pesticides in commercial formulations

Abstract A solvent free, fast and environmentally friendly near infrared-based methodology (NIR) was developed for pesticide determination in commercially available formulations. This methodology was based on the direct measurement of the diffuse reflectance spectra of solid samples and a multivariate calibration model (partial least squares, PLS) to determine the active principle concentration in commercial formulations. Ethanol production from biomass, especially waste biomass, and the use of such ethanol as fuel can reduce fossil fuel consumption and ameliorate the hidden costs of burning fossil fuels such as its environmental impact. In order to increase fuel economy and reduce pollutant emissions in the last decades light duty spark ignition (SI) engines have become smaller, supercharged and equipped with direct injection. A suitable alternative to oil derived fuel is represented by gaseous fuels, such as Natural Gas (NG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), whose higher knock resistance and better mixing capabilities substantially improve vehicle fuel economy and pollutant emissions. Combustion properties of spruce black liquor droplets : Sulfur-free pulping and influence of hot-water pretreatment

Hot-water pretreatment of lignocellulosics prior to sulfur-free alkaline pulping is an interesting approach for recovering value-added carbohydrate- and lignin-derived materials. This paper investigated the chemical composition variations and combustion properties of the black liquors (BLs) from three different cooking processes: two sulfur-free soda-anthraquinone (soda-AQ) and oxygen-alkali (O2-NaOH) cooks and kraft cook, before and after hot-water pretreatment of the spruce sawdust. Abstract In this study, the impact of membrane incorporation for effluent extraction on the performance of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor treating municipal wastewater was investigated in terms of system performance and sludge characteristics. A laboratory-scale system was operated in two different operational stages: (i) as a sole UASB reactor and (ii) as an anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR). One of the main goals of 21st century chemistry is to replace environmentally hazardous processes with energy efficient routes allowing to totally avoid the use and production of harmful chemicals and to maximise the quantity of raw material that ends up in the final product. Selective photocatalytic conversions will play a major role in this evolution and this account shows how photocatalysis is offering an alternative green route for the production of organics.
