Branching Ratios and Spectral Functions of $\tau$ Decays: final ALEPH measurements and physics implications
2005
The full LEP-1 data set collected with the ALEPH detector at the $Z$ pole during 1991-1995 is analysed in order to measure the $\tau$ decay branching fractions. Extensive systematic studies are performed, in order to match the large statistics of the data sample corresponding to over 300 000 measured and identified $\tau$ decays. Branching fractions are obtained for the two leptonic channels and eleven hadronic channels defined by their respective numbers of charged particles and $\pi^0$'s. Using previously published ALEPH results on final states with charged and neutral kaons, corrections are applied to the hadronic channels to derive branching ratios for exclusive final states without kao…
The Case of Insertional Adductor Tendinopathy of an International-Level 3,000-m Steeplechase Runner
2021
Background: Groin pain is a frequent condition among athletes. One of the causes of groin pain is tendinopathy, a frequently diagnosed medical condition, which can also occur in the adductor muscles. Despite the high prevalence of this medical condition among athletes, it is infrequent to observe tendinopathic groin pain in steeplechase runners. The aim of this case study is to describe the case of an international-level 3,000-m steeplechase runner with groin pain, who was subsequently diagnosed with adductor insertional tendinopathy.Case Presentation: We present the case of an Italian 3,000-m steeplechase and long distance runner, Ala Zoghlami (180 cm, 57 kg), with groin pain, diagnosed as…
Weak Interactions between Trivalent Pnictogen Centers: Computational Analysis of Bonding in Dimers X3E···EX3 (E = Pnictogen, X = Halogen)
2009
The nature of weak interactions in dimers X3E···EX3 (E = N−Bi, X = F−I) was investigated by wave function and density functional theory (DFT)-based methods. Out of the 20 systems studied, 10 are found to be bound at the CP-MP2 and LMP2 levels of theory. Detailed partition of the interaction energy into different components revealed that dispersion is the primary force holding the dimers together but there also exists an important ionic component whose contribution increases with increasing halogen size. As expected, standard density functionals fail to describe bonding in the studied systems. However, the performance of DFT methods can be easily improved via empirical dispersion correction …
New Tetraphosphane Ligands {(X2P)2NC6H4N(PX2)2} (X = Cl, F, OMe, OC6H4OMe-o): Synthesis, Derivatization, Group 10 and 11 Metal Complexes and Catalyti…

The reaction of p-phenylenediamine with excess PCl3 in the presence of pyridine affords p-C6H4[N(PCl2)2]2 (1) in good yield. Fluorination of 1 with SbF3 produces p-C6H4[N(PF2)2]2 (2). The aminotetra(phosphonites) p-C6H4[N{P(OC6H4OMe-o)2}2]2 (3) and p-C6H4[N{P(OMe)2}2]2 (4) have been prepared by reacting 1 with appropriate amount of 2-(methoxy)phenol or methanol, respectively, in the presence of triethylamine. The reactions of 3 and 4 with H2O2, elemental sulfur, or selenium afforded the tetrachalcogenides, p-C6H4[N{P(O)(OC6H4OMe-o)2}2]2 (5), p-C6H4[N{P(S)(OMe)2}2]2 (6), and p-C6H4[N{P(Se)(OMe)2}2]2 (7) in good yield. Reactions of 3 with [M(COD)Cl2] (M = Pd or Pt) (COD = cycloocta-1,5-diene)…
Feasibility of conductive embroidered threads for I 2 C sensors in microcontroller-based wearable electronics
2023
Abstract In recent years, the importance of flexible and textile electronics in the field of wearable devices has continuously increased, as they are expected to replace conventional wires that exhibit limited resistance to the mechanical stress occurring in on-body applications. Wearable health devices (WHDs) can provide physiological information about various body parts and employ distributed sensor networks. Among the sensors typically integrated within WHDs, those based on the I2C communication protocol are very common and exploit signals transmitted at frequencies up to hundreds of kilohertz. Therefore, robust communication is required to guarantee a proper transmission of the signal a…

QCD NLO with Powheg matching and top threshold matching in WHIZARD
2016
We present the status of the automation of NLO processes within the event generator WHIZARD. The program provides an automated FKS subtraction and phase space integration over the FKS regions, while the (QCD) NLO matrix element is accessed via the Binoth Les Houches Interface from an externally linked one-loop program. Massless and massive test cases and validation are shown for several e+e- processes. Furthermore, we discuss work in progress and future plans. The second part covers the matching of the NRQCD prediction with NLL threshold resummation to the NLO continuum top pair production at lepton colliders. Both the S-wave and P-wave production of the top pair are taken into account in t…

Coherent conditional probabilities and proper scoring rules
2011
In this paper we study the relationship between the notion of coherence for conditional probability assessments on a family of conditional events and the notion of admissibility with respect to scoring rules. By extending a recent result given in literature for unconditional events, we prove, for any given strictly proper scoring rule s, the equivalence between the coherence of a conditional probability assessment and its admissibility with respect to s. In this paper we focus our analysis on the case of continuous bounded scoring rules. In this context a key role is also played by Bregman divergence and by a related theoretical aspect. Finally, we briefly illustrate a possible way of defin…
The paradox of sustainable development : a conceptual framework for sustainability-driven family entrepreneurship from socio-emotional wealth perspec…
2013
Sustainability-driven Entrepreneurship (SE) has recently received considerable attention in entrepreneurship and sustainability literature in mainstream journals. It is topical in the literature because scholars believe that SE practices can reverse market imperfections created by conventional entrepreneurial practices into sustainable opportunity to drive the world into the next industrial revolution. While much has been written about this, how it relates to family-owned businesses has not been extensively studied. Even though family business scholars have studied the incremental aspect of the concept but on a more radical perspective, there is a gap in the literature. This study has been …
