Argumentation graphs with constraint-based reasoning for collaborative expertise
2018
International audience; Collaborative processes are very important in telemedicine domain since they allow for making right decisions in complex situations with multidisciplinary staff. When modelling these collaborative processes, some inconsistencies can appear. In semantic modelling (conceptual graphs), these inconsistencies are verified using constraints. In this work, collaborative processes are represented using an argumentation system modelled in a conceptual graph formalism where inconsistencies could be particular bad attack relation between arguments. To overcome these inconsistencies, two solutions are proposed. The first one is to weight the arguments evolving in the argumentati…
Is there a link between BMI and depressive symptomatology, risky consumption of alcohol and anxious symptomatology? Study in a sample of university s…
2019
BACKGROUND: One of the often-underestimated aspects of obesity is the psychological one. In particular, there is a growing attention to the correlation between obesity and depression among students from all over the world. And also towards the correlation between alcohol abuse and mood disorders. The objective of the study was to examine if the depressive symptomatology, risk of consumption of alcohol and anxiety symptomatology are correlated with obesity/ overweight in a sample of students of the University of Palermo, Italy. METHODS: The study was a cross-sectional study. A questionnaire is structured in four sections. An anonymous online survey was sent to a random students sample enroll…
Nutrition, public health, and sustainability: an overview of current challenges and future perspectives
2020
Abstract Marked changes in the lifestyle of society over the past few years, both in developed and developing countries, lead to an increase in sedentary activities and the consumption of unhealthy diets. This is the main cause of the increase of malnutrition and overweight people worldwide that, in turn, lead to chronic diseases like obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases that are of high public health concern. The aim of this chapter is to provide some advice for maintaining a healthy diet and the technologies that could be applied to achieve global food security in a sustainable way, and reducing food waste. On the other hand, the importance of bioactive compo…
A three-dimensional study of the onset of convection in a horizontal, rectangular porous channel heated from below
2012
Author's version of an article published in the journal: International Journal of Thermal Sciences. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.ijthermalsci.2011.12.012 The onset of convection is studied in a rectangular channel filled with a fluid saturated porous medium, bounded above and below by impermeable isothermal walls at unequal temperatures and laterally by partially conducting walls. A three-dimensional linear stability analysis is carried out under the assumption of an infinite longitudinal channel length. Then, this assumption is relaxed in order to determine the threshold length for the three-dimensional convection to be the preferred mode at onset. Sens…
A Space-Time Meshless Method for Heat Transfer Problems With High Discontinuities
2013
The aim of this research is the development of a space-time driscretization method based on Diffuse Approximation Meshless method. This method, devoted to transient heat transfer problems presenting high temporal discontinuities, avoids any Finite-Difference time stepping procedure. The space-time discretization proposed here seems to be convenient for continuous transient heat transfer. Nevertheless, for problems including temporal discontinuities, some spurious oscillations, whose amplitudes depend on source power, appear. A new weight function respecting the principle of causality, based on a modification of the involved node’s selection and a normalisation of the distances, is developed…
Psychosocial and behavioural factors in heart transplant candidates--an overview.
2007
Mortality among heart transplant (HTX) candidates remains high. This review of the literature shows that psychosocial characteristics like depression, social isolation and coping strategies contribute to morbidity and mortality in heart failure (HF) patients, and may also be relevant to the prognosis of HTX candidates. Based on the research to date, physical activity favourably affects subjective and objective parameters not only in HF patients, but also in HTX candidates. Depression is prevalent among HTX candidates, especially in ischaemic patients, and seems to be related to earlier transplantation. Findings on the effects of depression on pretransplant mortality are conflicting. Not muc…
The Effect of COVID-19 Lockdown Measures on Physical Activity Levels and Sedentary Behaviour in a Relatively Young Population Living in Kosovo
2021
To abate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, different restriction measures were imperative, limiting the possibility to be engaged in physical activity. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of COVID-19 lockdown on physical activity (PA) levels expressed as energy expenditure (MET-min/week) and sedentary behaviour in Kosovo. The possible association between PA levels and other factors was analyzed. 1633 participants (age range: 13 to 63 years; mean: 24.70 ± 9.33 years; body height: 172 ± 10.57 cm; body mass: 69.10 ± 13.80 kg; BMI: 23.09 ± 3.63 kg/m2) participated in the study, categorized by age, gender, BMI, and living area. An online survey, including an adapted version of the…
Does abdominal obesity influence immunological response to SARS-CoV-2 infection?
2021
Several hundred studies, 40 systematic reviews, and nearly 20 meta-analyses had been published by early 2021, confirming an increased need for medical services for people living with overweight or ...
Physical Activity Levels and Related Energy Expenditure during COVID-19 Quarantine among the Sicilian Active Population: A Cross-Sectional Online Sur…
2020
Background: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Italian government has adopted containment measures to control the virus’s spread, including limitations to the practice of physical activity (PA). The aim of this study was to estimate the levels of PA, expressed as energy expenditure (MET–minute/week), among the physically active Sicilian population before and during the last seven days of the COVID-19 quarantine. Furthermore, the relation between this parameter and specific demographic and anthropometric variables was analyzed. Methods: 802 Sicilian physically active participants (mean age: 32.27 ± 12.81 years; BMI: 23.44 ± 3.33 kg/m2) were included in the study and…
Multicomponent Exercise Training Combined with Nutritional Counselling Improves Physical Function, Biochemical and Anthropometric Profiles in Obese C…
2020
Aerobics or strength exercise plus diet interventions have been shown to counteract childhood obesity. However, little is known with regard to periodized multicomponent exercise interventions combined with nutritional counselling, which might be less demanding but more enjoyable and respectful of children and adolescents&rsquo
