On the autocorrelation function of Rice processes for unsymmetrical doppler power spectral densities

2010

In this paper, we derive an analytical expression for the ACF of Rice processes in the general case of unsymmetrical Doppler power spectral densities. This expression, which is obtained based on the multidimensional Gaussian distribution approach, is shown to cover the ACF of Rayleigh processes as a special case. Various numerical examples are presented to illustrate the impact of the channel parameters on the ACF. Computer simulations, considering the von Mises distribution for the angle of arrivals, are also performed to check the validity of the analytical result. Finally, the analysis of the covariance spectrum is addressed.

Bailiaspis (Trilobita) with English affinities from the Mansilla Formation (Cambrian Series 3 of the Iberian Chains; NE Spain)

2020

A new study of the trilobite record in the Mansilla Formation (Iberian Chains, NE Spain) has led to the discovery of the presence of Bailiaspis aff. tuberculata, B. cf. tuberculata and Bailiaspis sp., the first certain citation of this genus in the Mediterranean subprovince. The age of the findings extends from Eccaparadoxides asturianus Zone (upper Leonian) to the lowermost Badulesia tenera Zone (lower Caesaraugustan), which correspond to the upper part of Stage 5 of Cambrian Series 3 and, probably, the lowermost Drumian. The specimens show the cranidial anterior border expanding backwards, forming a plectrum that is characteristic of Bailiaspis. The main characters of the three taxa inclu…

Intensivsykepleierens vurdering og tilrettelegging av søvn : en kvalitativ studie om intensivsykepleierens erfaring med vurdering og tilrettelegging …

2016

Masteroppgave i spesialsykepleie – Universitetet i Agder 2016 Background: Previous studies have showed that lack of sleep makes ICU patients stressed. In addition, other studies have showed that the ICU nurses’ subjective assessment of ICU patients’ sleep have low correspondence with objective data, like polysomnography. This shows the need for further studies related to the assessment and facilitation of sleep that the ICU nurses are doing. Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the ICU nurse’s experience of assessment and facilitation of the ICU patient’s sleep, and how sleep can affect the course of the disease. Method: The study has a qualitative approach and in-depth interviews w…

Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS) Does Not Affect Sports People’s Explosive Power: A Pilot Study

2021

Purpose: This study is aimed to preliminary investigate whether transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) could affect explosive power considering genetic background in sport subjects. Methods: Seventeen healthy sports volunteers with at least 3 years of sports activities participated in the experiment. After 2 weeks of familiarization performed without any stimulation, each participant received either 50 Hz-tACS or sham-tACS. Before and after stimulation, subjects performed the following tests: (1) the squat jump with the hands on the hips (SJ); (2) countermovement jump with the hands on the hips (CMJ); (3) countermovement jump with arm swing (CMJ-AS); (4) 15-s Bosco’s test; (5) s…

Voice traffic bicasting enhancements in mobile HSPA network

2014

This paper discusses methods for improving the effectiveness of delivering voice traffic over High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network by employing transmission diversity with Single-Frequency Dual-Cell (SF-DC) Aggregation that is part of the Multiflow specification. SF-DC Aggregation allows the user to be served at the same time by two different cells. The enhancements discussed in the paper capitalize strongly on the availability of the composed Channel Quality Indication (CQI) feedback at both serving cells. According to the results obtained from the network simulations, the ability to select the better channel for each voice transmission significantly decreases the required tra…

Quantile index for gradual and abrupt change detection from CFB boiler sensor data in online settings

2012

In this paper we consider the problem of online detection of gradual and abrupt changes in sensor data having high levels of noise and outliers. We propose a simple heuristic method based on the Quantile Index (QI) and study how robust this method is for detecting both gradual and abrupt changes with such data. We evaluate the performance of our method on the artificially generated and real datasets that represent different operational settings of a pilot circulating fluidized bed (CFB) reactor and CFB cold model. Our experiments suggest that QI can be used for designing very simple yet effective methods for gradual change detection in the noisy sensor data. It can be also used for detectin…

On optimal relay placement for improved performance in non-coverage limited scenarios

2014

Low power nodes have been a hot topic in research, standardization, and industry communities, which is typically considered under an umbrella term called heterogeneous networking. In this paper we look at the problem of deploying optimally low power nodes in the context of relay networking, when an operator connects low power nodes (or small cells) via the wireless backhaul that uses the same spectrum and the same wireless access technology. We present an analytical model that can calculate optimal coordinates for low power nodes based on the input parameters, such as preferred number of nodes, their transmission power, parameters of the environment etc. The analytical calculations are comp…

Operator Revenue Analysis for Device-to-Device Communications Overlaying Cellular Network

2018

Device-to-device (D2D) communications has recently gathered significant research interest due to its efficient utilization of already depleting wireless spectrum. In this article, we considered a scenario where D2D users communicate in the presence of cellular users in an overlay network setup. In order to analyze the revenue of service providers in monetary terms, the paper provides exact expressions of operator profit for both D2D and cellular users. More specifically, we take into account different network parameters including user density, transmit power and channel variations to understand their impact on the total revenue of the operator. Finally, we derive the balancing value of freq…

Effects of Temperature and Humidity on Radio Signal Strength in Outdoor Wireless Sensor Networks

2015

Many wireless sensor networks operating outdoors are exposed to changing weather conditions, which may cause severe degradation in system performance. Therefore, it is essential to explore the factors affecting radio link quality in order to mitigate their impact and to adapt to varying conditions. In this paper, we study the effects of temperature and humidity on radio signal strength in outdoor wireless sensor networks. Experimental measurements were performed using Atmel ZigBit 2.4GHz wireless modules, both in summer and wintertime. We employed all the radio channels specified by IEEE 802.15.4 for 2.4GHz ISM frequency band with two transmit power levels. The results show that changes in …

Bilevel heat exchanger network synthesis with an interactive multi-objective optimization method

2012

Abstract Heat exchanger network synthesis (HENS) has been an active research area for more than 40 years because well-designed heat exchanger networks enable heat recovery in process industries in an energy- and cost-efficient manner. Due to ever increasing global competition and need to decrease the harmful effects done on the environment, there still is a continuous need to improve the heat exchanger networks and their synthesizing methods. In this work we present a HENS method that combines an interactive multi-objective optimization method with a simultaneous bilevel HENS method, where the bilevel part of the method is based on grouping of process streams and building aggregate streams …
