The filter and calibration wheel for the ATHENA wide field imager
2016
The planned filter and calibration wheel for the Wide Field Imager (WFI) instrument on Athena is presented. With four selectable positions it provides the necessary functions, in particular an UV/VIS blocking filter for the WFI detectors and a calibration source. Challenges for the filter wheel design are the large volume and mass of the subsystem, the implementation of a robust mechanism and the protection of the ultra-thin filter with an area of 160 mm square. This paper describes performed trade-offs based on simulation results and describes the baseline design in detail. Reliable solutions are envisaged for the conceptual design of the filter and calibration wheel. Four different varian…
Genomic Differentiation and Demographic Histories of Atlantic and Indo-Pacific Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares) Populations.
2017
Recent developments in the field of genomics have provided new and powerful insights into population structure and dynamics that are essential for the conservation of biological diversity. As a commercially highly valuable species, the yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) is intensely exploited throughout its distribution in tropical oceans around the world, and is currently classified as near threatened. However, conservation efforts for this species have so far been hampered by limited knowledge of its population structure, due to incongruent results of previous investigations. Here, we use whole-genome sequencing in concert with a draft genome assembly to decipher the global population str…
Efektivitas ikan pelangi arfak, Melanotaenia arfakensis, Allen 1990 dalam mencari makan pada tingkat kekeruhan air yang berbeda: suatu pendekatan lab…
2018
The research on feeding effectivity of arfak rainbowfish conducted at Fisheries Laboratory, Faculty of Fishes and Marine Scince, University of Papua in July to December 2016. The purpose of this research is to describe feeding effectivity of the fish at several levels of water turbidity. The fish samples used in the treatment, collected from Nimbai Stream, Prafi River system, Manokwari were acclimatized for a month in the laboratory. The fish were selected based on the body length and categorized into six size classes. Each individual of the fish was treated with 200 individuals of mosquito larvae (instar IV stage) at seven turbidity levels (2.54, 25.07, 50.52, 100.20, 500.60, and 800.40 Ne…
Management of Arfak Rainbow Fish Based on Bioecologycal Aspect (Case in Some River in Manokwari)
2018
The aim of this research is to study the bioecological aspect of Arfak Rainbowfish, distribution long-wieght frequency and management of endemic arfak rainbow fish in Manokwari. This study conducted for five months from 7 September 2015 to 9 Januari 2016. Fish sample were collected from Prafi river, Nimbai river and Aimasi river and brought to fisheries laboratory. The method of this research is descriptive methode with field observation. The result of water quality parameters are temperature average 30.01oC±1,06oC, flow rate is slow 0.92±0,12, the pH 7,80±0,12, oxygen solute 5,38±0,24, average biological oxygen demand for Prafi river 4 mg/L, Nimbai river 3.1 mg/L, Aimasi river 5.2 mg/L and…
Abundance and Distribution Patterns of Thunnus albacares in Isla del Coco National Park through Predictive Habitat Suitability Models
2016
Information on the distribution and habitat preferences of ecologically and commercially important species is essential for their management and protection. This is especially important as climate change, pollution, and overfishing change the structure and functioning of pelagic ecosystems. In this study, we used Bayesian hierarchical spatial-temporal models to map the Essential Fish Habitats of the Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) in the waters around Isla del Coco National Park, Pacific Costa Rica, based on independent underwater observations from 1993 to 2013. We assessed if observed changes in the distribution and abundance of this species are related with habitat characteristics, fis…

ATHENA is a Large high energy astrophysics space mission selected by ESA in the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 Science Program. It will be equipped with two interchangeable focal plane detectors: the X-Ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) and the Wide Field Imager (WFI). Both detectors require x-ray transparent filters to fully exploit their sensitivity. In order to maximize the X-ray tra…
Illegal fishing in Isla del Coco National Park: Spatial-temporal distribution and the economic trade-offs
2020
Abstract The Isla del Coco National Park, located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is rich in biodiversity and has a high concentration of pelagic species. This high marine biodiversity makes the Isla del Coco National Park (PNIC) a very attractive place for illegal fishers. We analyzed a dataset covering 8 years (2003–2010) of patrol records from PNIC with the aim of determining, a) the spatial-temporal distribution of illegal fishing, b) other areas that could be prone to illegal fishing but are currently undetected, c) the most profitable areas for this activity and d) the economic trade-offs of this illegal activity in relation to potential gains and the costs. Residuals Autocovariat…
The Wide Field Imager instrument for Athena
2017
ESA's next large X-ray mission ATHENA is designed to address the Cosmic Vision science theme 'The Hot and Energetic Universe'. It will provide answers to the two key astrophysical questions how does ordinary matter assemble into the large-scale structures we see today and how do black holes grow and shape the Universe. The ATHENA spacecraft will be equipped with two focal plane cameras, a Wide Field Imager (WFI) and an X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU). The WFI instrument is optimized for state-of-The-Art resolution spectroscopy over a large field of view of 40 amin x 40 amin and high count rates up to and beyond 1 Crab source intensity. The cryogenic X-IFU camera is designed for high-spect…

Statistical Validation of the Identification of Tuna Species: Bootstrap Analysis of Mitochondrial DNA Sequences
2002
Sequencing of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene has been used to differentiate three tuna species: Thunnus albacares (yellowfin tuna), Thunnus obesus (bigeye tuna), and Katsuwonus pelamis (skipjack). A PCR amplified 528 bp fragment from 30 frozen samples and a 171 bp fragment from 26 canned samples of the three species were analyzed to determine the intraspecific variation and the positions with diagnostic value. Polymorphic sites between the species that did not present intraspecific variation were given a diagnostic value. The genetic distance between the sequences was calculated, and a phylogenetic tree was constructed, showing that the sequences belonging to the same species clustered…
