L’articolo analizza L’Adamo, ovvero il Mondo creato, poema scientifico-filosofico di Tommaso Campailla (1668-1740), accademico modicano, che partecipò con i suoi esperimenti scientifici e la sua opera letteraria a diffondere la filosofia cartesiana e le nuove mirabili scoperte in ogni campo del sapere. Nel poema Campailla ricorre al motivo tradizionale del viaggio di conoscenza per squadernare al Primo Uomo, Adamo, le straordinarie meraviglie della creazione, tentando una sintesi tra istanze scientifiche e nuove direttrici della poesia settecentesca.

In his poem Campailla he uses the traditional motif of the journey of knowledge to square the extraordinary wonders of creation to the First Man Adam attempting a synthesis between scientific instances and new directions of eighteenth-century poetry.

Techniques to evaluate erythrocyte deformability in diabetes mellitus

Using several rheological techniques, we examined the erythrocyte deformability in different groups of diabetic subjects. The macrorheological techniques used for this evaluation were respectively whole-blood filtration, filtration of erythrocyte suspensions, polyviscosimetry and diffractometry. Whole-blood filterability, at a negative pressure of 20 cm water, was decreased in type 2 diabetics; no difference was evident at a negative pressure of 10 cm water. The filtration of erythrocyte suspensions at low haematocrit (5%) did not show differences between normal and diabetic subjects. This article summarizes the activities of the four-week whole body dissection course the main authors participated in in August 2016 at the dissection hall of the University of Malta (UoM). Our team comprised 10 second-year medicine students from University of Palermo chosen among who had passed the Human Anatomy exam brilliantly. The need to move to the UoM to take part in such activity derives from the lack of practice approach in Italian schools of medicine, focused mostly on the theoretical studies, neglecting practical experience. Evolution of syphilis incidence in Sibiu county (Romania) over a period of 10 years (2009-2018).

Syphilis is the most common sexually transmitted disease that mainly affects socially active people, with a fluctuating worldwide incidence over the years. A retrospective study was conducted over a period of 10 years (2009-2018) that included 396 patients with syphilis diagnosed and monitored by Sibiu County Emergency Clinical Hospital, Romania. During this period (2009-2018), we observed a decrease in the new cases of syphilis by 35.90%, and the average syphilis incidence was 9.90 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Specifically, spitzoid melanocytic tumors are one of the most challenging melanocytic lesions due to their ambiguous morphological features. Hunting for the beat in the body: on period and phase locking in music-induced movement.

Music has the capacity to induce movement in humans. Such responses during music listening are usually spontaneous and range from tapping to full-body dancing. However, it is still unclear how humans embody musical structures to facilitate entrainment. The pathology of bladder cancer: An update on selected issues

OBJECTIVE: To achieve a closer relationship between urologists and pathologists and to use a common language and identical objectives in the pathology of bladder cancer. METHODS AND RESULTS: Special emphasis was given to an analysis of the new World Health Organization (WHO) grading system, to the interpretation of the last Tumour-Nodes-Metastasis staging rules, and to identifying new markers of prognostic significance in clinical practice.
