Effects of the cluster surface on the electronic shell structure: faceting, roughness and softness

1995

Several simple models have been used to study the effects of the surface on the electronic shell structure in metal clusters. The main results are as follows: The icosahedral clusters have the same electronic shell structure as the sphere up to about 1000 atoms. The surface roughness causes the distribution of the level spacings to be a Wigner distribution. By varying the softness of the potential we can obtain potentials where the simplest classical orbits are the ‘five-point star’ or even ‘the three-point star’.

2018

At the beginning of the phenomenological movement, in the so-called "Circle of Monaco and Göttingen", the women students of Husserl played a not marginal role. They have led to the intention of going "to the things themselves" a specific light: the specificity of a feminine phenomenology can be traced in the eidetic interest, i.e. not naturalistic or empirical, for the theme of the structure of the human soul. In this context, the objective of these pages is to focus in particular on one aspect of Edith Stein's strictly pedagogical reflection on the structure of the person: the question about "own nature" and the "vocation" of women. It is considered in the light of her close friendship wit…

Trajectory tracking for an Ultralight WIG

2007

In this paper we present our research about a particular ultralight WIG. We have carried out the design of a Flight Control System that has to fix the control variables trend through a non-linear mathematical model, because of the particular geometric and aerodynamic configuration of this WIG. So, the non-linear mathematical model design has to reproduce exactly the aircraft behaviour either OGE or IGE. In particular, through classical semi-empirical relations, analytical equations have been obtained in order to evaluate incidence variations, downwash and upwash angles due to the ground. In the present paper only longitudinal dynamic is considered, because of its peculiarity in WIG's aircra…

Additional reports for Italian moss flora.

2013

As a result of the study of both recent collections and a review of herbarium specimens, the following taxa are reported for the first time from various Italian regions: Hedwigia stellata Hedenas, Hedwigia ciliata var. leucophaea Bruch & Schimp., Pleurozium schreberi (Willd. ex Brid.) Mitt. and Ptychostomum compactum Hornsch. var. compactum. The last taxon is new for southern Italy, while the report of Pleurozium schreberi confirms the occurrence of this species in southern Italy after more than half a century. Moreover, Crossidium laxefilamentosum Frey & Kurschner represents the second report of this species from Italy.

2006

Understanding evolutionary processes that drive genome reduction requires determining the tempo (rate) and the mode (size and types of deletions) of gene losses. In this study, we analysed five endosymbiotic genome sequences of the gamma-proteobacteria (three different Buchnera aphidicola strains, Wigglesworthia glossinidia, Blochmannia floridanus) to test if gene loss could be driven by the selective importance of genes. We used a parsimony method to reconstruct a minimal ancestral genome of insect endosymbionts and quantified gene loss along the branches of the phylogenetic tree. To evaluate the selective or functional importance of genes, we used a parameter that measures the level of ad…

Multiple paternity and mating group size in the European earwig,Forficula auricularia

2014

The patterns of multiple paternity among the progeny of females are key properties of genetic mating systems. Female multiple mating should evolve due to direct or indirect benefits, but it may also partly be driven by the encounter rate with different potential mates. 2. In this study this hypothesis was experimentally tested in the European earwig (Forficula auricularia L.) by establishing experimental mating groups that differed in the number of males and females (i.e. density). The number of sires and mean sibling relatedness in each clutch were estimated using microsatellite-based paternity analysis. 3. As predicted, the mean number of sires per clutch was significantly increased, and …

Pielgrzymka Ślązaków do Rzymu i Viterbo w 1967 r. Na drodze polsko-niemieckiego pojednania

2018

2007

Radon transform as a set of probability distributions

2009

It is proved that the Radon transform of the Wigner function gives the probability distributions related to measuring the observable operators obtained as linear combinations of position and momentum of the relevant particle. The generalization to an arbitrary number of degrees of freedom is given.
