2019

Objective: To explore the association between violence and suicidal behavior in female university students. Method: A convenience sample of 540 female students enrolled in the Nursing and Teacher Training Faculties at the University of Valencia was selected. Violence by partners, nonpartners, and both was compared with suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts. An adjusted logistic regression and the Wald Test were performed to explore whether the effect on student's suicidal behavior differed if a partner or others committed violence. Results: 18.1% reported suicidal thoughts in the last month and 2.4% had attempted suicide in the past five years. Suicidal behavior was significantly higher in…

2014

In summary: Academics and policy-makers face many challenges in their efforts to reduce intimate partner violence against women. Investing in public education and awareness initiatives is critically important, as is ensuring that these initiatives are well informed, appropriately targeted and properly designed. Finally, constant monitoring will be needed to assess the effectiveness of efforts to change public attitudes that further victimize the women who are victims of intimate partner violence.

2017

This paper examines two models of women's instruction and behavior depicted in Choderlos de Laclos’ famous epistolary novel. Cecile de Volanges is a young and naive virgin who tries to respect all the precepts of a wellborn girls conventional education. On the other hand, Marquise de Merteuil, officially a worldly lady of irreproachable reputation and secretly a dissolute libertine, has broken all the rules, and, in the conscious process of self-education, has provided herself with significant psychological knowledge that let her dominate and manipulate others.

LAS MUJERES COMO AGENTES PARA LA COHESIÓN TERRITORIAL DE LOS DESTINOS TURÍSTICOS RURALES

2020

Biosilica-Based Strategies for Treatment of Osteoporosis and Other Bone Diseases

2011

Osteoporosis is a common disease in later life, which has become a growing public health problem. This degenerative bone disease primarily affects postmenopausal women, but also men may suffer from reduced bone mineral density. The development of prophylactic treatments and medications of osteoporosis has become an urgent issue due to the increasing proportion of the elderly in the population. Apart from medical/hormonal treatments, current strategies for prophylaxis of osteoporosis are primarily based on calcium supplementation as a main constituent of bone hydroxyapatite mineral. Despite previous reports suggesting an essential role in skeletal growth and development, the significance of …

EFFECTS OF A SPECIFIC FLEXIBILITY TRAINING PROGRAM ON SPINAL RANGE OF MOTION IN OLDER WOMEN

2013

Introduction Aging-related reduced spinal mobility can interfere with the execution of important functional skills and activities in elderly women. However there is a lack of studies about the effects of range of motion exercises on flexibility outcomes in older populations and a lack of consensus regarding the prescription of stretching exercises for older adults (ACSM, 2009). For these reasons the purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which spinal extension and flexion could be improved in a population of older women participating in a 8-week flexibility training program. Methods Thirty female volunteers were cluster randomized into either a control group [CG] (n: 13; age: 69…

2020

The article presents Ricarda Huchs attitude towards the dictatorship of natio- nal socialism in Germany, from which the writer officially disbanded herself in 1933 by resigning from the membership of the Prussian Academy of Fine Arts and concluding at the same time that the Germanness in her opinion does not mean centralization of power, brutal methods and diffusion of people who think differently. This attitude is reflected in the autobiographical text of 1938, Friihling in der Schweiz [Spring in Switzerland] which refers to the experiences and observations of the writer during her stay in Switzerland in 1887-1896. Those memoirs serve as a kind of political message which simultaneously sho…

2017

The work of Marguerite Duras, marked by an obsession with ‘the unnameable’, describes the author haunted by her own phantasms, which she justifies by linking the motif of silence to the female condition, defying in the process the dominant literary tradition. From the viewpoint of the author, silence, presented in various guises, emerges as an intimate need, a singular necessity that can express unnamed emotions. This concept emphasizes the evolution of Duras’s minimalist writing, which depicts desire as an eternal theme identified with the rejection of logical and rational language. Meaningful silence is a way of discussing absence, loss, and emptiness. By means of such an original treatme…
