Validation of a two-dimensional modeling of an externally irradiated slurry photoreactor

Abstract A two-dimensional model describing the behavior of a batch cylindrical photoreactor has been validated through a series of photocatalytic reactivity runs. The light intensity radiation field produced by 1–6 external UV fluorescent lamps was modeled together with Langmuir–Hinshelwood kinetics and 4-nitrophenol (NP) and Degussa P25 TiO 2 were used as the probe molecule and the catalyst, respectively. Kirkwood–Buff integrals of finite systems

The Kirkwood–Buff (KB) theory provides an important connection between microscopic density fluctuations in liquids and macroscopic properties. Recently, Krüger et al. derived equations for KB integrals for finite subvolumes embedded in a reservoir. Using molecular simulation of finite systems, KB integrals can be computed either from density fluctuations inside such subvolumes, or from integrals of radial distribution functions (RDFs). Here, based on the second approach, we establish a framework to compute KB integrals for subvolumes with arbitrary convex shapes. Star orbits in metal clusters

A possibility that classical five-point star orbits play a dominant role for shell structures of large metal clusters is investigated quantum mechanically. With a soft Woods-Saxon spherical potential a signature of the five-point star orbit is found in the level densities. Quantum numbers of degenerate levels in the soft Woods-Saxon potential differ by 2 and 5 in radial nodes and angular momenta, respectively. Unlike the experimental observation the peaks in the mass spectrum are not equally spaced as a function of N 1/3 . The effect of nonequilibrium charge screening in the kinetics of the one-dimensional, diffusion-controlled $A+B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$ reaction between charged reactants in solids and liquids is studied. The incorrectness of the static, Debye-H\"uckel theory is shown. Our microscopic formalism is based on the Kirkwood superposition approximation for three-particle densities and the self-consistent treatment of the electrostatic interactions defined by the nonuniform spatial distribution of similar and dissimilar reactants treated in terms of the relevant joint correlation functions. Bridging the nuclear structure gap between stable and super heavy nuclei

International audience; Due to recent advances in detection techniques, excited states in several trans-fermium nuclei were studied in many laboratories worldwide, shedding light on the evolution of nuclear structure between stable nuclei and the predicted island of stability centered around spherical magic numbers. In particular, studies of K-isomers around the Z=100 and N=152 deformed shell closures extended information on the energies of Nilsson orbitals at the Fermi surface. Kπ=8−isomers andKπ=2−octupole vibrations inN=150shell-stabilized isotones

Isomers have been populated in {sup 246}Cm and {sup 252}No with quantum numbers K{sup {pi}}=8{sup -}, which decay through K{sup {pi}}=2{sup -} rotational bands built on octupole vibrational states. For N=150 isotones with (even) atomic number Z=94-102, the K{sup {pi}}=8{sup -} and 2{sup -} states have remarkably stable energies, indicating neutron excitations. An exception is a singular minimum in the 2{sup -} energy at Z=98, due to the additional role of proton configurations. The nearly constant energies, in isotones spanning an 18% increase in Coulomb energy near the Coulomb limit, provide a test for theory. Identification of excited states in119Ba

2000

Excited states have been identified in the very neutron-deficient ${}^{119}\mathrm{Ba}$ nucleus. Two bands have been observed, which are likely to be based on ${h}_{11/2}$ and ${(g}_{7/2}{d}_{5/2})$ neutron orbitals. Despite this being the first observation of excited states in ${}^{119}\mathrm{Ba},$ the bands extend to $(75/2)\ensuremath{\Elzxh}$ and $(79/2)\ensuremath{\Elzxh},$ respectively. The bands have been assigned to ${}^{119}\mathrm{Ba}$ using gamma-recoil and gamma--x-ray coincidences. Several quasiparticle alignments have been identified, involving neutron ${(h}_{11/2}{)}^{2}$ and proton ${(h}_{11/2}{)}^{2}$ aligned configurations. The helminth community of Apodemus sylvaticus (Rodentia, Muridae) in the Sierra de Gredos (Spain)

The Spanish mountain range of Gredos was included in the studies conducted on the Iberian peninsula to investigate helminth fauna of small mammals. The helminth community of the wood mouse, Apodemus sylvaticus (Rodentia, Muridae), was analysed. Qualitatively, 13 helminth species were detected: Plagiorchis sp. I and Plagiorchis sp. II (Trematoda); Taenia parva larvae, T. martis larvae, T. taeniaeformis larvae, Rodentolepis straminea and R. fraterna (Cestoda); and Trichuris muris, Heligmosomoides polygyrus, Syphacia stroma, S. frederici, Aspiculuris tetraptera and Rictularia proni (Nematoda). The objective of the present paper is to analyze the character of Polish jokes about Americans and to find out what these jokes say about Poles. The latter question results from the assumption that stereotypes reveal more about those who propagate them than about those who allegedly represent particular traits. The popularity of Americans is a certain novelty in contemporary Polish jokes and this fact could be interpreted as another element in the processes of so-called McDonaldization. The texts are presented by the chronology of events they refer to. Assessment of the possibility of using deciduous tree bark as a biomonitor of heavy metal pollution of atmospheric aerosol

The aim of the research was to assess the possibility to use deciduous tree bark in the biomonitoring of urban areas. The tree bark taken from various deciduous tree species growing in the Opole Province (south-western Poland) was used for the research. The bark was collected from tree trunks in the period of June 2–26, 2017. Concentrations of the heavy metals were determined in the barks by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS).
