A multidimensional critical factorization theorem

AbstractThe Critical Factorization Theorem is one of the principal results in combinatorics on words. It relates local periodicities of a word to its global periodicity. In this paper we give a multidimensional extension of it. More precisely, we give a new proof of the Critical Factorization Theorem, but in a weak form, where the weakness is due to the fact that we loose the tightness of the local repetition order. In exchange, we gain the possibility of extending our proof to the multidimensional case. Indeed, this new proof makes use of the Theorem of Fine and Wilf, that has several classical generalizations to the multidimensional case.

Abstract The literature considers nonviolent protests among the most important predictors of transitions towards democracy and democratic reforms. Confined crystallization of a HKUST-1 metal–organic framework within mesostructured silica with enhanced structural resistance towards water

A HKUST-1 metal–organic framework was crystallized in the NH2-modified mesostructured silica FDU-12 in order to improve its structural stability upon water exposure. In-depth structural characterization studies of the designed composite confirmed successful formation of the MOF phase within the ordered spherical mesopores of the silica matrix. In spite of the confinement within the cavities, MOF exhibits full accessibility for the adsorbed gas molecules. Measurement of photon?jet transverse momentum correlations in 5.02 TeV Pb + Pb and pp collisions with ATLAS

Jets created in association with a photon can be used as a calibrated probe to study energy loss in the medium created in nuclear collisions. Measurements of the transverse momentum balance between isolated photons and inclusive jets are presented using integrated luminosities of 0.49 nb−1 of Pb + Pb collision data at TeV and 25 pb−1 of pp collision data at TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Photons with transverse momentum GeV and are paired with all jets in the event that have GeV and pseudorapidity . Gamma Ray Spectrum from Thermal Neutron Capture on Gadolinium-157

International audience; We have measured the |$\gamma$|-ray energy spectrum from the thermal neutron capture, |${}^{157}$|Gd|$(n,\gamma)$|⁠, on an enriched |$^{157}$|Gd target (Gd|$_{2}$|O|$_{3}$|⁠) in the energy range from 0.11 MeV up to about 8 MeV. The target was placed inside the germanium spectrometer of the ANNRI detector at J-PARC and exposed to a neutron beam from the Japan Spallation Neutron Source (JSNS). Atomic physics studies at the gamma factory at CERN

The Gamma Factory initiative proposes to develop novel research tools at CERN by producing, accelerating and storing highly relativistic, partially stripped ion beams in the SPS and LHC storage rings. By exciting the electronic degrees of freedom of the stored ions with lasers, high-energy narrow-band photon beams will be produced by properly collimating the secondary radiation that is peaked in the direction of ions' propagation. Measurement of the permanent electric dipole moment of the neutron

We present the result of an experiment to measure the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron at the Paul Scherrer Institute using Ramsey’s method of separated oscillating magnetic fields with ultracold neutrons. Our measurement stands in the long history of EDM experiments probing physics violating time-reversal invariance. The salient features of this experiment were the use of a 199Hg comagnetometer and an array of optically pumped cesium vapor magnetometers to cancel and correct for magnetic-field changes. SWIFT J1756.9-2508: spectral and timing properties of its 2018 outburst

We discuss the spectral and timing properties of the accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar SWIFT J1756.9-2508 observed by XMM-Newton, NICER and NuSTAR during the X-ray outburst occurred in April 2018. The spectral properties of the source are consistent with a hard state dominated at high energies by a non-thermal power-law component with a cut-off at ~70 keV. No evidence of iron emission lines or reflection humps has been found. From the coherent timing analysis of the pulse profiles, we derived an updated set of orbital ephemerides. Towards a quantitative comparison between global and local stability analysis

A methodology is proposed here to estimate the stability characteristics of bluff-body wakes using local analysis under the assumption of weakly non-parallel flows. In this connection, a generalisation of the classic spatio-temporal stability analysis for fully three-dimensional flows is first described. Secondly, an additional higher-order correction term with respect to the common saddle-point global frequency estimation is included in the analysis. A new method for the labelling of proteins with radioactive arsenic isotopes

Abstract  Radioarsenic labelled radiopharmaceuticals could be a valuable asset to positron emission tomography. In particular, the long half-lives of 72As ( T 1 / 2 = 26 h ) and 74As ( T 1 / 2 = 17.8 d ) allow to investigate slow physiological or metabolical processes, like the enrichment and distribution of monoclonal antibodies (mab) in tumour tissue.
