The Labor Day that falls on the May 1, was one of the most important events in Poland during the communist period. The celebrations were preceded by long-term preparations. Since the beginning of March, the society undertook May Day deeds. The article analyses the course of the May Day celebrations in Opole Silesia. Starting early in the morning on the Labourer's Day, propaganda slogans and reports of accomplished May Day actions were broadcast, and delegates from various workplaces, organisations and institutions gathered in order to participate in the manifestations. The main culminating point of the celebration agenda was the parade which set off after speeches delivered by the representatives of the party authorities. The parades were organised in all of the cities and all the commune centres. The parade in Opole had the largest number of participants in the region - in 1955, it gathered 50,000 people. Aside from the official part of the celebrations, Labour Day included the entertainment part as well. In the afternoon of the lst of May numerous art and sport events, as well as games, lotteries etc. were organised in Opole and in other major localities of the voivodeship. These were received with acclamation by the community, and they noted considerable turnout. For that day the authorities arranged sale of products that were difficult to purchase on a daily basis, which constituted one more attraction of May Day celebrations. We have recently described a new syndrome: strenuous endurance exercise-related atrial fibrillation (AF) under the acronym of ‘paroxysmal AF in young and middle-aged athletes’ (‘PAFIYAMA’). Provided that other risk factors for AF and underlying conditions have been excluded (1), the diagnostic criteria for this syndrome entail a number of conditions, classified as major and minor. An enhanced risk of AF has been clearly documented in endurance athletes (top-class, elite and recreational) (2-5), and such risk typically ranges between 1.2- to 15-fold compared to the general, sedentary population (the better cardiovascular fitness, the higher incidence of AF) (6-11). Artykuł jest próbą przybliżenia zmian zachodzących w tradycyjnej muzyce Podhala w ciągu ostatnich stu pięćdziesięciu lat oraz jej wpływu na repertuar tradycyjny terenów położonych na północ od tego regionu. Wnioski zostały sformułowane na podstawie źródeł archiwalnych – pisanych i fonograficznych – oraz badań własnych przeprowadzonych w ciągu ostatniej dekady na terenie powiatów myślenickiego, suskiego i nowotarskiego (północna część). Documentation, as a term, encompasses very different instruments and procedures. In early childhood institutions, the amount of documentation has increased due to both professional interests and external requirements. The edited volume considers documentation as constitutive in any institution and as possessing agentic power in institutions. Therefore, the key interest of the book is research into the ways in which documentation becomes productive in situ in early childhood institutions. The focus is on research that considers documentation from three viewpoints: as a means of normalisation, as being interlinked with participation, and as reflecting a changing professionalism.
