Organisational and individual resources as antecedents of older nursing professionals’ organisational commitment : Investigating the mediating effect…

2021

Aim and objectives To investigate how organisational and individual resources are linked to older (50+) nursing professionals’ organisational commitment, and to examine the possible mediating role of the active use of selection, optimisation and compensation (SOC) strategies. Background Many healthcare organisations need to find ways to retain their older nursing professionals due to nursing shortage. Design To test a set of hypotheses, cross-sectional survey data (n = 396) were used. Data were analysed using correlation analysis and partial least-squares structural equation modelling. STROBE Statement for cross-sectional studies has been followed in this study. Results The results exhibite…

Characterization of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) modified by ion implantation

2004

Abstract Surface modification of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is induced by ion implantation of different ions at 300 keV energy. The aim of this work was the chemical, physical and mechanical characterization of the modified material in order to know deep inside about the effect of the ion beam upon the polymer. The irradiated surfaces are investigated by Raman spectroscopy, infrared absorption and micro-hardness analysis, scanning electron microscopy. Pin on disc measurements valuated the wear of the UHMWPE against a stainless steel probe; wear resistance increases of about 76% after the ion implantation. This result can be attributed to the ion bombardment inducing a…

Studies on electron-beam irradiation and plastic deformation of medical-grade ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene

2011

Abstract Separated and combined electron-beam irradiation and plastic deformation effects on the structures of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) were studied. It was found that the concentration of carbonyl (ketones, esters and peresters), hydroxyl and vinyl groups increases with the growing dose of adsorbed electrons. It also tends to exhibit a slight increase in the melting point and crystallinity of the samples. A mechanical stress in the polymer was found to accelerate radiation-induced degradation. It was concluded that each of the factors studied (i.e. electron beam sterilization and plastic deformation) had a different impact on the polymer structure. The change in th…

Privātums un izsekošana Latvijā apmeklētākajās tīmekļa vietnēs

2018

Automated detection and localization system of myocardial infarction in single-beat ECG using Dual-Q TQWT and wavelet packet tensor decomposition

2020

Background and objective. It is challenging to conduct real-time identification of myocardial infarction (MI) due to artifact corruption and high dimensionality of multi-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). In the present study, we proposed an automated single-beat MI detection and localization system using dual-Q tunable Q-factor wavelet transformation (Dual-Q TQWT) denoising algorithm. Methods. After denoising and segmentation of ECG, a fourth-order wavelet tensor (leads × subbands × samples × beats) was constructed based on thediscretewavelet packet transform (DWPT), to represent the features considering the information of inter-beat, intra-beat, inter-frequency, and inter-lead. To reduce the t…

Dynamique de la communauté microbienne de sols tropicaux suite à une application répétée de fertilisants organiques et minéraux

2019

Organic waste products (OWP) with NPK mineral fertilization are known to have an impact on soil microbial communities. However, dynamic of these communities following a repeated OWP and NPK application has not been well described. In the present study, this dynamic was observed on soil sampled at the La Mare (La Réunion) field experiment, which was set up in 2013. This experiment includes control plot (without organic input, but mineral fertilization) and several plots receiving different types of OWP coupled with NPK fertilization. Physico-chemical parameters were measured on soils and OWPs (2013 to 2017). Soil microbial biomass (from 2013 to 2018) and the structure of microbial community …

Progress in Using an Electronic Playing Environment. A Comparative Study between Cantors and Primary Teacher Students Specialising in Music

2012

Abstract This research was executed as self-study research in a music technology learning environment designed for teacher education. It explored the functionality of music technology teaching from the viewpoints of technical, physical, and social learning environments. Moreover, connecting music theory teaching to a notation programme was studied. The target group consisted of primary teacher students, and the control group were parish cantors. The participants kept a study log and answered questions related to the teaching and subject content. These data were analysed with qualitative analysis. Group differences were examined with Mann-Whitney's U-test. Both the beginners and experts had …

Can a snow structure model estimate snow characteristics relevant to reindeer husbandry?

2014

Snow affects foraging conditions of reindeer e.g. by increasing the energy expenditures for moving and digging work or, in contrast, by making access of arboreal lichen easier. Still the studies concentrating on the role of the snow pack structure on reindeer population dynamics and reindeer management are few. We aim to find out which of the snow characteristics are relevant for reindeer in the northern boreal zone according to the experiences of reindeer herders and is this relevance seen also in reproduction rate of reindeer in this area. We also aim to validate the ability of the snow model SNOWPACK to reliably estimate the relevant snow structure characteristics. We combined meteorolog…

A hybrid MCDM approach for ranking suppliers by considering ethical factors

2016

One of the negative effects of cooperating with un-ethically behaving suppliers is that it may devastate the companies' credibility among employees, customers and the public. In this paper, a hybrid Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approach (Disjunctive-WPM method) is proposed to resolve this limitation. The proposed methods consist of the following steps: 1. drop unethical solutions and 2. rank the remaining solutions. Therefore, the aim of this paper is the application of the DisjunctiveWPM method to supplier selection problem by adding ethical factors into the analysis. In addition, a comparative analysis to the traditional WMP method is carried out. The proposed method appears t…

Incorporating teacher-student dialogue into digital course material : Usage patterns and first experiences

2020

This work-in-progress research investigates teacher-student communication via Learning Management Systems (LMS) in highly populated courses. An LMS called TIM (The Interactive Material) includes a specific commenting technology that attempts to make teacher-student dialog effortless. The research goal is to explore students’ willingness to use the technology and identify patterns of usage. To these ends, a survey with both Likert and open-ended questions was issued to CS1 and CS2 students. A favorable student evaluation was observed while several critical viewpoints that inform technology development were revealed. We noticed that besides appreciating the possibility of making comments, man…
