The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the selscted works of one of the twelfth century Normans historian living in the British Isles, Gerald de Barri of Wales (1146-1223) in terms of knowledge of the Byzantine world and its correlation with the Normans (from England and Southern Italy). The term Byzantine world has been evolving for several decades. Today it refers no longer just to the land of the former East European Empire, which later transformed itself into the Greek Byzantium, but it can be referred to the Balans or the Kingdom of Normandy, while scientists are constantly expanding its borders with the help of other sciences such as archeology. In March 1939, the Czech State Archive in Opava (Zemsky Archiv v Opave), temporarily renamed Landesarchiv, was transformed into Reichsarchiv Torppau, one of the two higher level archives established in lands annexed to the Third Reich on the basis of the Munich Agreement. Its basie aim was to document the history of the so-called Sudetenland, with particular consideration of the role of the German nation in its civilization development. This task was to be supervised by the new head of the archive, Walther Klemens Latzke from Vienna, a historian and archivist, a declared Nazi and a member of the NSDAP sińce 10 December 1931. Pieczęcie oprócz funkcji prawnej zawierają też istotny element komunikacyjny. W artykule przeanalizowano wybrane śląskie pieczęcie nawiązujące do działalności zawodowej ludności, które były używane w kancelariach miejskich, cechów rzemieślniczych oraz przez gminy wiejskie. Zidentyfikowano symbole poszukując typowych przedstawień dla określonych grup dysponentów.
