inter-laboratory experiments were designed to evaluate the impact of plas- tic waste blended directly in bitumen and to assess the properties, using conventional and advanced bituminous binder testing. The blends tar- geted 5% of plastic waste in 95% bitumen, using two types of polyethy- lene (PE) primary (pellets) and secondary (shreds) waste. The experiments showed that the addition of PE waste to bitumen does not alter the chem- istry of the bitumen, the blending is physical. Utilization of steelwork waste heaps –Recovery of metals by acidic bioleaching

The paper presents the results of preliminary research conducted by the acid bioleaching method, with the use of autochthonous Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans bacteria and museum strains of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, on recovery of metals contained in selected metallurgical waste. The material contained mainly oxidative minerals Fe2O3, SiO2, and Al2O3 as well as lead, zinc, copper and nickel sulphides. Concentrations of the key metals were respectively: zinc 3.46 %, lead 13.8 %, copper 0.4 %, nickel 0.06 %. The works were carried out on a small laboratory scale. Dry chlorination of spent nickel metal hydride battery waste for water leaching of battery metals and rare earth elements

An efficient leaching process was developed for nickel, cobalt, and the rare earth elements (REEs) from spent nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery waste. The process involves dry chlorination with ammonium chloride in low temperature to produce water-soluble chlorinated compounds, followed by simple water leaching. The factors affecting the conversion and solubilization were studied, including the amount of ammonium chloride, residence time and temperature in dry chlorination, and solid to liquid ratio, time and temperature in water leaching. However, mistrust has its virtues, especially in the form of “civic vigilance”—healthy suspicion towards the powers that be. This article examines civic vigilance in the form of “watchdog journalism,” as practiced by the leading Finnish and French newspapers—Helsingin Sanomat (HS) and Le Monde (LM)—in their RWM reporting.
