Water Absorption of Hemp Fibre Nonwovens Modified with Metal and Metal Oxide Nanoparticles

In this paper changes of ability of hemp fibre nonwovens to absorb water after deposition of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles were investigated. Moisture content of samples after storage in different climatic conditions was determined using thermogravimetric method. The obtained results were compared with the results of previous research based on investigation of water absorption of metalized woven fabric of bast fibre. Analysis of measurements showed that nonwoven samples with surface treated in plasma attract water slightly better than sample with untreated surface; this was more pronounced in woven fabric samples. Influence of drying to the structure of lactitol monohydrate

The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of the crystal water content on the crystal structure of lactitol monohydrate. Crystal water was removed by drying over silicagel at 40°C and by using phosphorus pentoxide as drying agent at 20°C. The amouts of water removals were identified by thermogravimetry, the melting points and the heat of fusions were calculated from the results of differential scanning calorimetry measurements and the structure of samples were identified by X-ray powder diffraction method. Ferricytochrome c encapsulated in silica hydrogels has been prepared by the sol-gel technique following, with some modifications, the procedure originally developed by Ellerby et al. (Science 255 1113 (1992)). A suitable preparation of hydrogels enables having both 'wet' and 'dry' samples. Wet samples have a high water content: as the temperature is lowered below approximately 260 K, water freezes and the samples crack. Maximising seed longevity is crucial for genetic resource preservation and longevity of orthodox seeds is determined by environmental conditions (water content and temperature). The effect of water content (down to 0.01 g·H₂O·g(-1) ) on seed viability was studied at different temperatures for a 5-year storage period in taxonomically related species. In the literature, contrasting effects of plant species richness on the soil water balance are reported. Our objective was to assess the effects of plant species and functional richness and functional identity on soil water contents and water fluxes in the experimental grassland of the Jena Experiment. The Jena Experiment comprises 86 plots on which plant species richness (0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 60) and functional group composition (zero to four functional groups: legumes, grasses, tall herbs, and small herbs) were manipulated in a factorial design. Abstract: Damage to forest soil caused by vehicle traffic mainly consists of soil compaction, displacement, and rut formation. Severity of the damage depends on vehicle mass, weight of the carried loads, ground morphology, and soil properties, such as moisture. This paper investigates the impacts of two types of vehicles (tracked or wheeled tractor), traffic intensities (one or five skidding cycles) and soil moisture (24% or 13% by weight) on compaction of a loam textured soil in a mixed conifer stand of central Italy. Abstract. This study uses the EMAC atmospheric chemistry-climate model to simulate cloud properties and estimate cloud radiative effects induced by aerosols. We have tested two prognostic cloud droplet nucleation parameterizations, i.e., the standard STN (osmotic coefficient model) and hybrid (HYB, replacing the osmotic coefficient by the κ hygroscopicity parameter) schemes to calculate aerosol hygroscopicity and critical supersaturation, and consider aerosol–cloud feedbacks with a focus on warm clouds. Abstract This study analyzes whether and at what rate the parameterization of the Soil Water Retention Curve (SWRC) affects the analysis of shallow slope stability for differently structured unsaturated soils. Advanced empirical or physically-based equations of SWRCs have been proposed in literature to describe soil systems characterized by the so-called bimodal porous domain.
