Physical dispersion and disappearance of bacteria in the Golfo di Palermo: the results of two surveys.
2012
This paper reports on some results of two surveys at sea carried out in the surroundings of a urban wastewater discharge on the coast of the Golfo di Palermo, western Sicily (Italy). At the time of the surveys (year 2005) the stretch of water lying before the central part of the capital town received the untreated wastewater originating from about 200 000 inhabitants, which was discharged on-shore without any prior treatment by the free-surface outfall of “Porta Felice main sewer”. This outfall has crucial importance in the water quality; indeed, the Municipality is steadily implementing a plan featuring an intercepting main sewer along the coast and some pumping stations to connect all the…

Krimināllikuma 102. panta piemērošana ūdens piesārņojuma novēršanai: praktiskās problēmas
2015
Krimināllikuma 102.pants paredz kriminālatbildību par noziedzīgiem nodarījumiem pret dabas vidi, taču praksē nākas saskarties ar problēmām noziedzīga nodarījuma sastāva kvalifikācijā. Vainīgās personas netiek sauktas pie kriminālatbildības, kā arī nav iespējams pierādīt personas vainu izdarītajā nodarījumā. Darbā tiek izstrādāti priekšlikumi likumdošanas pilnveidei ar mērķi izstrādāt vienotus kritērijus pēc kuriem būtu iespējams noteikt un paredzēt kaitīgo seku iestāšanos saistībā ar ūdens piesārņojumu, novēršot gadījumus, kad vainīgās personas netiek sauktas pie kriminālatbildības, jo nav iespējams konstatēt noziedzīga nodarījuma sastāvu. Atslēgvārdi: Krimināllikuma 102.pants; noziedzīgi n…

How University Students Assess Their Water Skills.
2022
The aim of this study was to determine the gender differences between students' actual and perceived water abilities, how respondents assess risk in the described situations, and whether there are gender differences for those situations. The cross-sectional study was conducted on 150 students aged 19–20 years (males, n = 88; females, n = 62) from the faculty of sport and physical education, University of Novi Sad. Using calculated frequencies and estimates, students' self-assessment and actual measures of their swimming and survival skills and their perceived risk of drowning are described. Based on the results, Mann-Whitney U tests were applied. The differences between independent variable…
Alcohol use, aquatic injury, and unintentional drowning : A systematic literature review
2018
Issues Drowning is a global public health issue, and there is a strong association between alcohol and risk of drowning. No previous systematic review known to date has identified factors associated with alcohol use and engagement in aquatic activities resulting in injury or drowning (fatal and non‐fatal). Approach Literature published from inception until 31 January 2017 was reviewed. Included articles were divided into three categories: (i) prevalence and/or risk factors for alcohol‐related fatal and non‐fatal drowning and aquatic injury, (ii) understanding alcohol use and aquatic activities, and (iii) prevention strategies. Methodological quality of studies was assessed using National He…
