Vegetation dynamics from NDVI time series analysis using the wavelet transform

A multi-resolution analysis (MRA) based on the wavelet transform (WT) has been implemented to study NDVI time series. These series, which are non-stationary and present short-term, seasonal and long-term variations, can be decomposed using this MRA as a sum of series associated with different temporal scales. The main focus of the paper is to check the potential of this MRA to capture and describe both intra- and inter-annual changes in the data, i.e., to discuss the ability of the proposed procedure to monitor vegetation dynamics at regional scale. Periodic Polynomial Splines

In this chapter, the spaces of periodic polynomial splines and the Spline Harmonic Analysis (SHA) in these spaces are briefly outlined. The stuff of this chapter is used for the design of periodic discrete-time splines and discrete-time-spline-based wavelets and wavelet packets. For a detailed description of the subject we refer to (Averbuch, Neittaanmaki and Zheludev, Spline and Spline Wavelet Methods with Applications to Signal and Image Processing, Springer, Berlin, 2014) [1]. Periodic polynomial splines provide an example of mixed discrete-continuous circular convolution.
Wavelet analysis and HHG in nanorings: their applica-tions in logic gates and memory mass devices

We study the application of one nanoring driven by a laser field in different states of polarization in logic circuits. In particular we show that assigning Boolean values to different states of the incident laser field and to the emitted signals, we can create logic gates such as OR, XOR and AND. We also show the possibility of making logic circuits such as half-adder and full-adder using one and two nanorings respectively. Using two nanorings we made the Toffoli gate. Finally we use the final angular momentum acquired by the electron to store information and hence show the possibility of using an array of nanorings as a mass memory device.

Abstract This paper deals with a new method for optimal synthesis of Wavelet-Based Neural Networks (WBNN) suitable for identification purposes. The method uses a genetic algorithm (GA) combined with a steepest descent technique and least square techniques for both optimal selection of the structure of the WBNN and its training. A network of magnetometers for multi-scale urban science and informatics

The magnetic signature of an urban environment is investigated using a geographically distributed network of fluxgate magnetometers deployed in and around Berkeley, California. The system hardware and software are described and initial operations of the network are reported. The sensors measure vector magnetic fields at a 3960 Hz sample rate and are sensitive to 0.1 nT/Hz. Data from individual stations are synchronized to ±120 µs using global positioning system (GPS) and computer system clocks and automatically uploaded to a central server. Quasi-decadal signals of Sahel rainfall and West African monsoon since the mid-twentieth century

[1] Sahel rainfall shows pronounced decadal variability and a negative trend between wet conditions in the 1950s–1960s and dry ones in the 1970s–1980s. Using continuous wavelet transform, the quasi-decadal variability (QDV) of rainfall reveals zonal contrasts. The highest QDV is identified in the 1950s–1960s over western Sahel and in the 1970s–1980s over eastern Sahel. The quasi-decadal atmospheric anomalies have been reconstructed using Fourier transform for the 1950s–1960s and the 1970s–1980s, respectively, and assessed by the composite analysis of the QDV phases for the periods before and after 1968. This thesis presents a number of innovative techniques that can be used in the analysis of econometric data sequences in which the underlying components can be identified by their spectral signatures. To present these techniques intelligibly requires the preparatory expositions of Fourier analysis and of the theory of linear filtering that are presented in Chapters 2 and 3.
