High-resolution IR spectrum of AsH2D: Ro-vibrational analysis of the bending triad bands , , and

2008

Abstract The infrared spectrum of the AsH2D molecule has been measured in the region of the three bending fundamental bands on a Fourier transform spectrometer with a resolution of 0.0024 cm−1 and analyzed for the first time. More than 7500 normally allowed and in addition about 600 forbidden, but perturbation-activated transitions with J max = 21 , K a max = 20 and K c max = 21 have been assigned to the bands ν 3 , ν 4 , and ν 6 . The measured transition wavenumbers were used to determine 1047 upper energy values. These energies were fitted with a Watson-type Hamiltonian in A reduction and IIIl representation taking into account resonance interactions between all three bending states, (001…

First observation of the blue optical lines of francium

1987

We report here the first wave-length measurements in the second resonance doublet of francium, D1'(7s2S1/2-8p2P 1/2) and D2'(7s2S1/2-8p2P 3/2), carried out by collinear fast-beam laser spectroscopy. The transition wave numbers are D1' = 23112.9603(50) cm-1 and D2' = 23658.3058(40) cm-1, corresponding to a 8p fine-structure splitting of δW8p = 545.3454(70) cm-1. In addition the hyperfine structure in both lines and the isotope shift in the D2' line for the isotopes 212,213,220,221Fr have been measured. The results are discussed with special emphasis on the analysis of the atomic structure in the heaviest alkali element and compared with theoretical predictions, as well as the only earlier sp…

Numerical study of a multiscale expansion of the Korteweg de Vries equation and Painlev\'e-II equation

2007

The Cauchy problem for the Korteweg de Vries (KdV) equation with small dispersion of order $\e^2$, $\e\ll 1$, is characterized by the appearance of a zone of rapid modulated oscillations. These oscillations are approximately described by the elliptic solution of KdV where the amplitude, wave-number and frequency are not constant but evolve according to the Whitham equations. Whereas the difference between the KdV and the asymptotic solution decreases as $\epsilon$ in the interior of the Whitham oscillatory zone, it is known to be only of order $\epsilon^{1/3}$ near the leading edge of this zone. To obtain a more accurate description near the leading edge of the oscillatory zone we present a…

On the existence of higher waves in a layer of superfluid helium

1973

The two implicit equations that contain the dispersion laws of waves propagating in a He II layer of variable thickness are formally investigated for solutions that go beyond those associated with the layer modifications of first and second sound: A series of symmetric and antisymmetric layer modes are found to exist by calculating the distribution of roots of the dispersion equations in the complex wave number plane as a function of layer thickness and angular frequency. All these modes turn out to be strongly attenuated and can be regarded as layer modifications of the viscous wave. Phase velocities, attenuation coefficients, and velocity profiles of some of them are calculated numericall…

Convective Instability in a Horizontal Porous Channel with Permeable and Conducting Side Boundaries

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Transport in Porous Media. Also available on Science Direct: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11242-013-0198-y The stability analysis of the motionless state of a horizontal porous channel with rectangular cross-section and saturated by a fluid is developed. The heating from below is modelled by a uniform flux, while the top wall is assumed to be isothermal. The side boundaries are considered as permeable and perfectly conducting. The linear stability of the basic state is studied for the normal mode perturbations. The principle of exchange of stabilities is proved, so that only stationary normalmodes need to be considered in the stability analysis.…

Generation of self-induced-transparency gap solitons by modulational instability in uniformly doped fiber Bragg gratings

2010

We consider the continuous-wave (cw) propagation through a fiber Bragg grating that is uniformly doped with two-level resonant atoms. Wave propagation is governed by a system of nonlinear coupled-mode Maxwell-Bloch (NLCM-MB) equations. We identify modulational instability (MI) conditions required for the generation of ultrashort pulses in both anomalous and normal dispersion regimes. From a detailed linear stability analysis, we find that the atomic detuning frequency has a strong influence on the MI. That is, the atomic detuning frequency induces nonconventional MI sidebands at the photonic band gap (PBG) edges and near the PBG edges. Especially in the normal dispersion regime, MI occurs w…

Analysis of femtosecond Raman-induced polarization spectroscopy (RIPS) in N2 and CO2 by fitting and scaling laws

2000

Raman-induced polarization spectroscopy (RIPS) experiments were conducted at room temperature and pressures below 2 atm in pure N2 and CO2. Both homodyne and optically heterodyne detection were used. Calculations of the signal as a function of the pump–probe delay were performed taking into account the pulse duration of the laser, the rotational dependence of the dephasing rates and the small instantaneous electronic Kerr effect. The observed decay and shape of the rotational quantum beats are in good agreement with the calculations. Several sets of linewidth coefficients corresponding to the diagonal part of the collisional–rotational relaxation matrix were used. This matrix was choosen am…

Solving the Cut-Off Wave Numbers in Partially filled Rectangular Waveguides with Ferrite by the Cauchy Integral Method

2005

The modal analysis of the off-centered rectangular waveguide loaded with a vertical slab of ferrite material, biased in the y-direction by a DC magnetic field, leads to the resolution of a transcendent equation whose infinite solutions are the TE/sub m0/ cutoff wave numbers in the guide. The method based on the Cauchy integral (Delvest L.M. and Lyness, J.N., 1967) is becoming very popular for solving such equations. This powerful method is described for solving the propagation constant in a partially ferrite filled waveguide. The method is used to calculate the propagation constant of the fundamental TE mode for some configurations used in the literature about ferrites. Results obtained in …

Mode-coupling crossover in viscous toluene revealed by neutron and light scattering

1998

The dynamics of supercooled toluene, studied in a GHz-THz range by incoherent neutron and depolarized light scattering, is found to be in full accord with mode coupling predictions. Around the susceptibility minimum, neutron spectra are wavenumber independent and proportional to light scattering data; the fast β-relaxation scaling law applies; amplitude and frequency diverge with power laws that extrapolate towards a crossover temperature Tc K.

Gap solitons and modulation instability in a dynamic Bragg grating with nonlinearity management

2008

International audience; We investigate the occurrence of modulation instability in systems in which a dynamic Bragg grating consists of alternating positive and negative Kerr coefficients. The dependence of modulation instability gain spectra over the perturbation wavenumber and system parameters is portrayed near and at the edges of the photonic band gap structure. Further, we demonstrate the generation of traveling gap solitons near the photonic band gap structure through the modulation instability
