Common fixed points of generalized contractions on partial metric spaces and an application
2011
Abstract In this paper, common fixed point theorems for four mappings satisfying a generalized nonlinear contraction type condition on partial metric spaces are proved. Presented theorems extend the very recent results of I. Altun, F. Sola and H. Simsek [Generalized contractions on partial metric spaces, Topology and its applications 157 (18) (2010) 2778–2785]. As application, some homotopy results for operators on a set endowed with a partial metric are given.
On the equivalence of McShane and Pettis integrability in non-separable Banach spaces
2009
Abstract We show that McShane and Pettis integrability coincide for functions f : [ 0 , 1 ] → L 1 ( μ ) , where μ is any finite measure. On the other hand, assuming the Continuum Hypothesis, we prove that there exist a weakly Lindelof determined Banach space X, a scalarly null (hence Pettis integrable) function h : [ 0 , 1 ] → X and an absolutely summing operator u from X to another Banach space Y such that the composition u ○ h : [ 0 , 1 ] → Y is not Bochner integrable; in particular, h is not McShane integrable.
Weak regularity and consecutive topologizations and regularizations of pretopologies
2009
Abstract L. Foged proved that a weakly regular topology on a countable set is regular. In terms of convergence theory, this means that the topological reflection Tξ of a regular pretopology ξ on a countable set is regular. It is proved that this still holds if ξ is a regular σ -compact pretopology. On the other hand, it is proved that for each n ω there is a (regular) pretopology ρ (on a set of cardinality c ) such that ( RT ) k ρ > ( RT ) n ρ for each k n and ( RT ) n ρ is a Hausdorff compact topology, where R is the reflector to regular pretopologies. It is also shown that there exists a regular pretopology of Hausdorff RT -order ⩾ ω 0 . Moreover, all these pretopologies have the property…
Fixed point theorems for non-self mappings in symmetric spaces under φ-weak contractive conditions and an application to functional equations in dyna…
2014
In this paper, we prove some common fixed point theorems for two pairs of non-self weakly compatible mappings enjoying common limit range property, besides satisfying a generalized phi-weak contractive condition in symmetric spaces. We furnish some illustrative examples to highlight the realized improvements in our results over the corresponding relevant results of the existing literature. We extend our main result to four finite families of mappings in symmetric spaces using the notion of pairwise commuting mappings. Finally, we utilize our results to discuss the existence and uniqueness of solutions of certain system of functional equations arising in dynamic programming.
A weak comparison principle for solutions of very degenerate elliptic equations
2012
We prove a comparison principle for weak solutions of elliptic quasilinear equations in divergence form whose ellipticity constants degenerate at every point where \(\nabla u\in K\), where \(K\subset \mathbb{R }^N\) is a Borel set containing the origin.
Butterflies in a Semi-Abelian Context
2011
It is known that monoidal functors between internal groupoids in the category Grp of groups constitute the bicategory of fractions of the 2-category Grpd(Grp) of internal groupoids, internal functors and internal natural transformations in Grp, with respect to weak equivalences (that is, internal functors which are internally fully faithful and essentially surjective on objects). Monoidal functors can be equivalently described by a kind of weak morphisms introduced by B. Noohi under the name of butterflies. In order to internalize monoidal functors in a wide context, we introduce the notion of internal butterflies between internal crossed modules in a semi-abelian category C, and we show th…
Linear quotients of Artinian Weak Lefschetz algebras
2013
Abstract We study the Hilbert function and the graded Betti numbers for “generic” linear quotients of Artinian standard graded algebras, especially in the case of Weak Lefschetz algebras. Moreover, we investigate a particular property of Weak Lefschetz algebras, the Betti Weak Lefschetz Property, which makes possible to completely determine the graded Betti numbers of a generic linear quotient of such algebras.
Fixed point for cyclic weak (\psi, C)-contractions in 0-complete partial metric spaces
2013
In this paper, following (W.A. Kirk, P.S. Srinivasan, P. Veeramani, Fixed points for mappings satisfying cyclical contractive conditions, Fixed Point Theory, 4 (2003), 79-89), we give a fixed point result for cyclic weak (ψ,C)-contractions on partial metric space. A Maia type fixed point theorem for cyclic weak (ψ,C)-contractions is also given.
Schaefer–Krasnoselskii fixed point theorems using a usual measure of weak noncompactness
2012
Abstract We present some extension of a well-known fixed point theorem due to Burton and Kirk [T.A. Burton, C. Kirk, A fixed point theorem of Krasnoselskii–Schaefer type, Math. Nachr. 189 (1998) 423–431] for the sum of two nonlinear operators one of them compact and the other one a strict contraction. The novelty of our results is that the involved operators need not to be weakly continuous. Finally, an example is given to illustrate our results.
On operator valued sequences of multipliers and R-boundedness
2007
AbstractIn recent papers (cf. [J.L. Arregui, O. Blasco, (p,q)-Summing sequences, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 274 (2002) 812–827; J.L. Arregui, O. Blasco, (p,q)-Summing sequences of operators, Quaest. Röntgen, Banach space sequences and projective tensor products, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 277 (2) (2003) 629–644]) the concept of (p,q)-summing multiplier was considered in both general and special context. It has been shown that some geometric properties of Banach spaces and some classical theorems can be described using spaces of (p,q)-summing multipliers. The p…
