GeoNET: WebGIS of a GNSS Permanent Network
2009
In Sicily, from 2005 to 2007, a research group at the Dipartimento di Rappresentazione, DIRAP (University of Palermo) has realized a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) network for real time positioning (Network Real Time Kinematic –NRTK), activity founded by “Minister of Instruction, University and Scientific Research” (MIUR) as “National Interest Research Program” PRIN2005 entitled "Networks of permanent GPS stations for the survey in real time control and use of emergency". The data-base contains different kind of information both general on the network and positional. Positional information can be useful for two types of survey applications: static survey with post-processing of d…

The project was primarily aimed to document and promote, through 3D digitization approaches and communication material, the memory of sites, theatre of the world conflict. The Italian Trento’s province had been under the Austro–Hungarian Empire until the end of the WWI, during which represented a crucial and bloody war front between the Austrian and Italian territories. The region was constellated of military fortresses, trenches and tunn…
GLOBE BASED 3D GIS SOLUTIONS FOR VIRTUAL HERITAGE
2018
Abstract. During the last years, many solutions have been proposed for 3D Virtual Heritage representations. Recently, also new technologies for online gaming evolved, based on javascript libraries (WebGL), used to create and publish virtual interactive environments. They are based on recent Web browser’s functionalities, surpassing some limitations of VRML technologies. On the side of geospatial information, technology has evolved from desktop GIS to 2D WebGIS and globe applications. The use of globe applications is, today, very diffused due to its immediate and at the same time impressive representation of the earth surface and territories. These technologies have been, also, applied to Vi…
