Comparison of degrees of maturity of rabbit lines selected for different traits
2015
[EN] The aim of this work was to study whether commercial nucleus lines of rabbits selected for different traits, and experimental lines having commercial purposes, have the same degree of maturity when compared at the same slaughter age. The study was carried out with 17897 rabbits from Universitat Politècnica de València. Rabbits came from the maternal lines A (3902 rabbits; 44th generation), V (4238 rabbits; 39th generation) and LP (6115 rabbits; 9th generation), selected for litter size at weaning; the paternal line R (2023 rabbits; 25th generation), selected for growth rate between 28 and 63 days of age; the maternal line OR (586 rabbits; 11th generation) selected for ovulation rate; a…
Low-weight carboxylic acids as potential risk factor of compost phytotoxicity
2009
Being intermediates of organic matter degradation, low-weight carboxylic acids (LWCA) can occur at phytotoxic concentrations on bioactive soils or in the processed organic material applied to soil. While toxicity potentials and mixture effects of LWCA are still poorly known, the potential phytotoxicity of the biomaterials is difficult to assess. In the study effective concentrations (EC) of formic, acetic and propionic acids at non adjusted pH were obtained in short-term germination assays (48 h for cress, Lepidium sativum, and 120 h for ryegrass Lolium multiflorum) and subchronic growth assays (21d). Based on the EC values, LWCA inhibited more strongly plant growth than seed germination. I…
GRZYBY WIELKOOWOCNIKOWE JAKO ŹRÓDŁO SUBSTANCJI BIOAKTYWNYCH
2020
From ancient times medicine and natural products have been closely linked through the use of traditional medicines and natural toxins. Macrofungi have an established history of use especially in traditional oriental medicine. Nowadays, mushrooms comprise a vast and yet largely untapped source of powerful new pharmaceutical products. In particular, and most importantly for modern medicine, they are an unlimited source of compounds that exhibit multidirectional activity: antioxidant, immuno-enhancing, immunostimulatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antiinflammatory, antidiabetic, antiallergenic and anticarcinogenic [1, 2, 5-8]. In the presented work, a substances with biological activity from ma…
Reasons and freedom
2015

Mappings of finite distortion : boundary extensions in uniform domains
2015
In this paper, we consider mappings on uniform domains with exponentially integrable distortion whose Jacobian determinants are integrable. We show that such mappings can be extended to the boundary and moreover these extensions are exponentially integrable with quantitative bounds. This extends previous results of Chang and Marshall on analytic functions, Poggi-Corradini and Rajala and Akkinen and Rajala on mappings of bounded and finite distortion.

Non-melancholic depressive symptoms are associated with above average fat mass index in the Helsinki birth cohort study
2022
AbstractThere is an existing link between two of the most common diseases, obesity and depression. These are both of great public health concern, but little is known about the relationships between the subtypes of these conditions. We hypothesized that non-melancholic depressive symptoms have a stronger relationship with both body composition (lean mass and fat mass) and dysfunctional glucose metabolism than melancholic depression. For this cross-sectional study 1510 participants from the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study had their body composition evaluated as lean mass and fat mass (Lean Mass Index [LMI, kg/m2] + Fat Mass Index [FMI kg/m2] = Body Mass Index). Participants were evaluated for dep…
THE INFLUENCE OF TEACHER-STUDENT COMMUNICATION ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
2021
During adolescence, there is a significant risk of sports abandonment associated with sedentarism and overweight. For this reason, Physical Education (PE) classes should be an opportunity to bring physical activity and sport closer to schoolchildren developing, and consolidating healthy lifestyle habits. Considering the importance that teaching communication procedures can have in the motivation of students, and given the lack of specific studies that investigate the influence of these processes on the motivation to practice sport in the context of PE, the aim of this study is to determine the effect of the teacher's communicational dimensions (challenging, encouragement and praise, non-ver…
Emotional correlates of body weight: The moderating effects of gender and family income
2011
Abstract This study explored emotional correlates of relative body weight in a sample of 187 male and 269 female college students. The contribution of relative body weight, gender, family income and their interactions to variables related to anxiety and anger were evaluated by multiple regression procedures. Relative body weight was positively related to trait anxiety, especially among those with lower family incomes. Increased body weight was also related to trait anger and an anger-out expression style, but only among men. These results suggest that gender and family income moderate the contribution of relative body weight to anxiety and anger, both central aspects of a 'disease-prone per…
