The barriers dentists face to communicate cancer diagnosis:self-assessment based on SPIKES protocol
2022
This study aimed to characterize the barriers faced by Brazilian dentists to deliver bad news (DBN) about oral and oropharyngeal cancer diagnoses to patients by using a questionnaire based on the guidelines of the SPIKES protocol. This was an observational cross-sectional study. The questionnaire contained 27 questions based on the SPIKES protocol, which were answered in the SurveyMonkey platform. A total of 186/249 dentists answered the questionnaire. The main specialties reported were 36.02% oral medicine, 21.5% oral pathology, and 9.13% oral and maxillofacial surgery. A total of 44.6% expressed concern about the patient?s emotional reactions, and 46.24% of respondents had never participa…
Semi-discrete Galerkin approximation method applied to initial boundary value problems for Maxwell's equations in anisotropic, inhomogeneous media
1981
SynopsisIn this paper the semi-discrete Galerkin approximation of initial boundary value problems for Maxwell's equations is analysed. For the electric field a hyperbolic system of equations is first derived. The standard Galerkin method is applied to this system and a priori error estimates are established for the approximation.

The nonstationary Maxwell system in domains with edges and conical points
2005
Sergey Matyukevich on väitöskirjassaan tutkinut Maxwell-yhtälöä alueilla, joilla on kartiomaisia kärkiä ja teräviä särmiä. Erityisen huomion kohteena tutkimuksessa oli tutkia yhtälön ratkaisujen käyttäytymistä lähellä ns. singulaaripisteitä, joita epäsileät reunat aiheuttavat. Tutkimuksessa Matyukevich on johtanut ratkaisuille eksplisiittisiä, asymptoottisia laajennuksia alueen kartiomaisten kärkien ja terävien särmien ympäristössä.Tutkimuksen tuloksilla on merkitystä siinä, että niitä voidaan soveltaa useiden ei-stationaaristen sähkömagnetiikan yhtälöiden matemaattisessa ja numeerisessa analysoinnissa epäsileillä alueilla. We study the nonstationary Maxwell system in domains with conical p…
Use of a Semantic Language to Reduce the Indeterminacy in Agents Communication
2014
In the field of agent communications uncertainty and vagueness in the message content and in the achievable results play a primordial role when two agents (human or artificial) communicate. Even though the importance of vagueness and uncertainty has been recognized long ago, only recently mechanisms related to the communications’ semantics that allow a practical approach have been designed; more specifically, the development of tools such as agent programming languages and frameworks, which is a field of intensive research. On the other hand, recent theoretical ideas, drawn from situation semantics theory and the works of Sutton on semantic information, support this work. This paper applies…
Efficient Time Integration of Maxwell's Equations with Generalized Finite Differences
2015
We consider the computationally efficient time integration of Maxwell’s equations using discrete exterior calculus (DEC) as the computational framework. With the theory of DEC, we associate the degrees of freedom of the electric and magnetic fields with primal and dual mesh structures, respectively. We concentrate on mesh constructions that imitate the geometry of the close packing in crystal lattices that is typical of elemental metals and intermetallic compounds. This class of computational grids has not been used previously in electromagnetics. For the simulation of wave propagation driven by time-harmonic source terms, we provide an optimized Hodge operator and a novel time discretizati…

Reciprocal commitment in academic careers? : Finnish implications and international trends
2016
This study explores the nature of reciprocal commitment in academic careers. The article is based on a survey conducted in autumn 2013 among fixed-term employees at eight major universities in Finland (N = 810). The analysis is focusing on researchers who have a doctoral degree and who are working on a fixed-term contract at their university (n = 308). According to our study, researchers experience their working conditions are insecure and many of them have considered leaving their universities. Despite the fact that they find their work meaningful their uncertain and poor working conditions are related to their thoughts of leaving the university. In addition in many of the cases leaving th…
The relationship between context, structure, and processes with outcomes of 6 regional diabetes networks in Europe
2018
BackgroundWhile health service provisioning for the chronic condition Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) often involves a network of organisations and professionals, most evidence on the relationships between the structures and processes of service provisioning and the outcomes considers single organisations or solo practitioners. Extending Donabedian's Structure-Process-Outcome (SPO) model, we investigate how differences in quality of life, effective coverage of diabetes, and service satisfaction are associated with differences in the structures, processes, and context of T2D services in six regions in Finland, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Spain, and UK.MethodsData collection consisted of: a) systemat…
