Transfer of Immunity from Mother to Offspring Is Mediated via Egg-Yolk Protein Vitellogenin.

Insect immune systems can recognize specific pathogens and prime offspring immunity. High specificity of immune priming can be achieved when insect females transfer immune elicitors into developing oocytes. The molecular mechanism behind this transfer has been a mystery. Here, we establish that the egg-yolk protein vitellogenin is the carrier of immune elicitors. Using the honey bee, Apis mellifera, model system, we demonstrate with microscopy and western blotting that vitellogenin binds to bacteria, both Paenibacillus larvae – the gram-positive bacterium causing American foulbrood disease – and to Escherichia coli that represents gram-negative bacteria. Hydrophobins play an important role in binding and assembly of fungal surface structures as well as in medium-air interactions. These, hydrophobic properties provide interesting possibilities when purification of macromolecules is concerned. In aqueous micellar two-phase systems, based on surfactants, the water soluble hydrophobins are concentrated inside micellar structures and, thus, distributed to defined aqueous phases. Artykuł ma charakter przeglądowy. Autor omawia społeczno-kulturowe podłoże zmian językowych wywołanych przez powojenne ruchy migracyjne, przesiedlenia ludności i przemiany społeczno-ustrojowe. Prezentuje poszczególne kategorie ludności, które zasiedliły Ziemie Zachodnie i Północne, pod względem demograficznym, kulturowym i językowym. Wskazuje na sytuację ludności autochtonicznej i jej rolę w procesie integracyjnym. Analizuje przyczyny i uwarunkowania zmian o charakterze ogólnopaństwowym, lokalnym i indywidualnym. Porusza zagadnienie definicji terminu integracja językowa i ewolucji tego pojęcia. Przedstawia rozwój metodologii i dokonania badawcze.

Šizofrēnija ir neiroattīstības slimība, kas skar 1% pasaules populācijas pieaugušo vecumā. Šizofrēnijas ārstēšanā izmanto neiroleptiķus, kuri pamatā ietekmē dopamīna un serotonīna līmeņa regulāciju smadzenēs. Diemžēl, šī medikamentu grupa ir efektīva tikai daļai pacientu. Pēdējo gadu pētījumi norāda gan uz GABA sistēmas, gan neiroiekaisuma kaskādes nozīmi šizofrēnijas patoģenēzē (Moslem et al., 2019). Šī darba mērķis ir noskaidrot C3aR un Cd11b ekspresiju kontroles grupas peļu un jaunizveidotā šizofrēnijas peļu genotipa prefrontālās smadzeņu garozas audu lizātos ar Western blot metodi. Recognition of earthquake-induced damage in the Abakainon necropolis (NE Sicily): results from geo-morphological, geophysical and numerical analyses

Seismotectonic activity and slope instability are a permanent threat in the archaeological site of Abakainon and in the nearby village of Tripi in NE Sicily. In recent times, signs of an ancient earthquake have been identified in the necropolis of Abakainon which dating was ascertained to the first century AD earthquake. The site is located on a slope of Peloritani Mts. along the Tindari Fault Line and contains evidence for earthquake-induced landslide, including fallen columns and blocks, horizontal shift and counter slope tilting of the tomb basements. A total of 648 dolphinfishes were examined for internal and external parasites in western Mediterranean (Balearic Islands) and central-eastern Atlantic (Canary Islands) waters in order to make a comparative study between the two areas. The specimens studied from the Mediterranean Sea was Coryphaena hippurus, with 62 large individuals captured from May to September and 497 juveniles captured from August to December. The specimens studied from the central-eastern Atlantic were 39 adult C. hippurus and 49 adult Coryphaena equiselis. The paper presents a comparison of case studies about innovative ICT-supported pedagogical practices in two educational systems, namely Finland and Hong Kong. The two systems were selected for this in-depth comparison for three main reasons. First, Finland and Hong Kong performed well in several international comparative studies of educational achievement. Second, the case studies collected via the SITES Module 2 indicated rather different profiles between Finnish and Hong Kong schools in terms of ICT infrastructure and pedagogical practices.
