Dielectric and plasmonic waveguides based on quantum dots embedded in polymers

2013

The Effect of Light on the Growth of Pea Plants and the Subsequent Influence in Shikimate Oxidoreductase (EC 1.1.1.25) Activity

1981

Summary Pea plants were cultured in white light, red and far red light, and in the dark during a period of three weeks. At several states of development we investigated the activity of the enzyme shikimate oxidoreductase, the amount of fresh and dry matter, and the contents of protein in stem, leaves, cotyledons, and roots. The enzyme activity was found to be distributed organ-specifically and uninfluenced by the phytochrome system, but it was significantly depressed in plants grown in the dark compared to plants grown in white light. Enzyme activity occurred also in non photosynthetic plants. Regarding the different light conditions the activity of shikimate oxidoreductase was found to cor…

Longer wavelengths of light improve the growth, intake and feed efficiency of individually reared juvenile pikeperchSander lucioperca(L.)

2009

We tested the effects of monochromatic light on the specific growth rate (SGR), feed intake and feed efficiency (FE) of juvenile pikeperch, Sander lucioperca (L.). Pikeperch were reared individually for 42 days in aquaria covered with blue, green, yellow or red gelatin filters or white paper (control; n=5). Linear regression analysis indicated a significant positive effect of longer wavelengths of light on the condition factor (CF), FE and SGR. The final weight, SGR and CF were significantly higher in fish reared under red than under white light, and FE was better under green, yellow and red light than under white light (Dunnett's post hoc test, P<0.05) while blue was comparable to white li…

Skin haemoglobin mapping: comparison of multi-spectral imaging and selective R-G-B analysis

2010

The multi-spectral imaging technique has been used for distant mapping of in-vivo skin haemoglobin. Besides, potential of selective R-G-B analysis of skin images has been studied under bi-chromatic (532 nm and 635 nm) laser illumination.

1043 Evaluation of Pediatric Testes After Surgery by Laser Doppler and White Light Spectroscopy

2012

Aim To evaluate testes after unilateral orchiopexy Laser Doppler and white light spectroscopy and compare microcirculation with contralaterat testis and healthy controls. Methods A combination of the laser Doppler (determination of blood flow) and white light spectroscopy (determination of oxygen saturation and hemoglobin amount) is used to determine microcirculation at two different depth levels non-invasively. Patients were recruited after unilateral orchiopexy. Controls were age-matched boys without relevant disease. Ethical approval was obtained. Results 99 patients were included after unilateral orchiopexy at the age of 3.5 years (+-2.9 years). 65% underwent surgery after their second …
