Introducing a novel mesh following technique for approximation-free robotic tool path trajectories

2017

Abstract Modern tools for designing and manufacturing of large components with complex geometries allow more flexible production with reduced cycle times. This is achieved through a combination of traditional subtractive approaches and new additive manufacturing processes. The problem of generating optimum tool-paths to perform specific actions (e.g. part manufacturing or inspection) on curved surface samples, through numerical control machinery or robotic manipulators, will be increasingly encountered. Part variability often precludes using original design CAD data directly for toolpath generation (especially for composite materials), instead surface mapping software is often used to gener…

The role of the committee of the regions (CoR) to implement the Green Deal at the local level: an overview of Italy

2021

<p>The contribution focuses on the role of cities in the implementation of the so-called Green Deal, the ambitious program proposed by the European Commission, in accordance with the objectives set by the Paris Agreements, to implement the use of clean energy resources, favour the circular economy, restore biodiversity and reduce pollution. The Plan, which for the seven-year period 2021-2027 has a budget of economic resources of 100 billion Euro, aims to involve in transcalar perspective all territorial and administrative levels of the Member States and thus contribute to the achievement, in 2050, of climate neutrality. The main objective of the work is then to concen…

Contributions Regarding the Reduction of Production Costs for Brewing by Recovering and Reusing the Carbon Dioxide

2014

Abstract Nowadays in every field the main aim is to produce corresponding quality products at competitive prices for buyers. In addition to the multiple possibilities to reduce the brewing production cost, one of the most significant ways is to reduce the production cost by recovering the carbon dioxide (CO2) resulting from the fermentation of beer, taking into account the fact that the CO2 thus resulting is completely natural. This scientific paper presents a certain strategy based on costs, strategy which relies on the experience of the authors, on the economic impact of CO2 recovery resulting from the fermentation of beer and which reflects itself in the production cost and implicitly in…

An approach to evaluation of sheet bending force under successive multiaxial stress condition

2009

A new bending under tension test is presented in this paper. This method tries to evaluate bending forces in sheet under successive multiaxial stress condition. This test is carried out in only one step with a pinned cylinder over a material that has been previously deformed to pure shear condition. Due to that, the bending process is made under higher back tension forces than the ones involved in the common methods previously studied in the literature. This entails high pressure values in the sheet-bending tool contact that affects the corresponding friction process. Material is strongly strengthened as a consequence of the deformation practiced in it, and as a result of that, bending forc…

Bridging a gap between continuum-QCD and ab initio predictions of hadron observables

2015

Within contemporary hadron physics there are two common methods for determining the momentum-dependence of the interaction between quarks: the top-down approach, which works toward an ab initio computation of the interaction via direct analysis of the gauge-sector gap equations; and the bottom-up scheme, which aims to infer the interaction by fitting data within a well-defined truncation of those equations in the matter sector that are relevant to bound-state properties. We unite these two approaches by demonstrating that the renormalisation-group-invariant running-interaction predicted by contemporary analyses of QCD's gauge sector coincides with that required in order to describe ground-s…

Design, build-up and optimization of a fast quenching device for polymeric thin film

2014

In this work an innovative apparatus for the characterization of polymer solidification under very high cooling rates (up to thousand of K/s) is described, according to the continuous cooling transformation approach adopted in metallurgy for studying structure development in metals. The proposed model experiment is addressed to design a method for the characterization of non-isothermal solidification behaviour, encompassing typical cooling conditions of polymer processing. Only temperature history determines the structure formed, as melt solidification takes place in quiescent conditions. With respect to the device previously developed by the authors [1, 3] the present equipment presents th…

Changes in climatic signals of English oak tree-ring width and cross-section area of earlywood vessels in Latvia during the period 1900–2009

2012

Abstract We investigated changes in response of wood formation in English oak (Quercus robur L.) to climatic factors since 1900. It was hypothesised that the effect of winter and spring temperatures has weakened, while summer precipitation has become limiting. Increment cores were taken from 40 sites across Latvia. Tree-ring width and cross-section area of earlywood vessels were measured and cross-dated. Regional chronologies were built by pooling time series of trees within two regions of Latvia (western and eastern region), which differed in continentality. Climatic signals differed between the proxies (tree-ring width and earlywood vessel cross-section area) and between regions. Mean cro…

Utility of social networks and online data collection in nursing research: Analysis of Spanish nurses’ level of knowledge about palliative care

2018

Introduction Internet-based social networks are used by nurses with different purposes, including the creation of working groups and to share and create knowledge. Purpose To evaluate the utility of social networks in the dissemination of an online questionnaire and to measure Spanish RNs’ knowledge about palliative care. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out. Using social networks we distributed an online questionnaire with the Spanish version of Palliative Care Quiz for Nurses (PCQN-SV) throughout August 2015. Results A direct relationship between the number of responses and the questionnaire’s apparitions in each social network was found. Comparing the results obtai…

Polarisation and Electoral Realignment: The Case of the Right-Wing Parties in Spain

2020

The article analyses the consequences of elite polarisation at the mass level. We study the electoral re-alignment within the right-wing Spanish electorate in recent years, whereby support for the long-predominant Partido Popular has been eroded dramatically to the benefit of new challengers. Measuring ideological polarisation at the party system level and at the individual level, we show how the polarising strategy implemented by the liberal Ciudadanos - and imitated by PP - to gain support from the right-wing electorate paved the way for a massive transfer of conservative voters to the radical-right Vox. The results provide counter-intuitive evidence about the electoral effects of elite p…

Influence of arbuscular mycorrhizae on biomass production and nitrogen fixation of berseem clover plants subjected to water stress.

2014

Several studies, performed mainly in pots, have shown that arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis can mitigate the negative effects of water stress on plant growth. No information is available about the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis on berseem clover growth and nitrogen (N) fixation under conditions of water shortage. A field experiment was conducted in a hilly area of inner Sicily, Italy, to determine whether symbiosis with AM fungi can mitigate the detrimental effects of drought stress (which in the Mediterranean often occurs during the late period of the growing season) on forage yield and symbiotic N2 fixation of berseem clover. Soil was either left under water stress (i.e., rai…
