In 1933, Emil Kaufmann revealed the figure of Jean-Jacques Lequeu to a wider audience for the first time by publishing, in his Von Ledoux bis Le Corbusier, a number of drawings by the then almost unknown architect from Normandy to support the thesis, still debated today, that sees Claude-Nicolas Ledoux's "revolutionary" architecture as the origin of a natural line of sight which, starting from the purity of neoclassical forms, leads directly to the works of the masters of the modern movement. The paper deals with the studies conducted in 1951 in Brazil by Lina Bo Bardi on the issue of council houses. The three examples were never realised but do help to describe the intention of the architect to promote a “rational” way of living, from a small house to an urban complex. The first project concerns a small house with a close relationship between architecture and nature. The second project concerns three housing units that embody the idea of the housing cell as a constituent piece of a community. In international, Italian, French and German public collections, but also among private collections, there are architectural drawings by the quadrature painter Tarquinio Ligustri da Viterbo, made after 1596 and depicting portals of his invention. This corpus is mostly unpublished and has remained anonymous for centuries. Image Segmentation based on Genetic Algorithms Combination

The paper describes a new image segmentation algorithm called Combined Genetic segmentation which is based on a genetic algorithm. Here, the segmentation is considered as a clustering of pixels and a similarity function based on spatial and intensity pixel features is used. The proposed methodology starts from the assumption that an image segmentation problem can be treated as a Global Optimization Problem. The results of the image segmentations algorithm has been compared with recent existing techniques. Several experiments, performed on real images, show good performances of our approach compared to other existing methods.

AN EKF BASED PROCEDURE FOR AUTOMATIC PATH FOLLOWING IN TURBULENT AIR

Aim of the present paper is to propose a procedure to afford an accurate automatic path following in turbulent air. The technique is based on the simultaneous employment of two different EKF. The first estimates disturbances, the second one estimates deflection that are necessary to reject the estimated disturbances. The first EKF uses measurements gathered in turbulent air. The second EKF obtains command laws able to follow the desired flight path rejecting disturbances. To purchase the objective, aerodynamic coefficients have been modified by adding entirely new derivatives or synthetic increments to basic ones. CFD Study of an Innovative Catamaran with Asymmetrical Hulls

The purpose of this paper is the study of the shape of catamaran with asymmetrical hulls by both experimental and numerical viewpoint. The experimental study is based on the towing tank tests on a catamaran hulls shape obtained from previous works, showing that the wave resistance is very low produces a lower energy loss and a greater effectiveness. The hulls shape is optimized by the CFD application by force of commercial software, which shows that the reduction of wasted energy is very sensitive to make some changes; in particular three different width of the catamaran are tested and their performances are compared.

In replacing the viscous damper which dissipates the kinetic energy of the vehicle due to rough roads or obstacles more marked an electromagnetic damper is used that performs the functions of the viscous damper allowing a recovery of electricity. The damper is of the electromagnetic type with permanent magnets and its operation is based on the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. The mathematical model describes the operation of the damper restoring the values of the electrical and mechanical magnitudes as a function of the relative speed between the rod and the stator. Energy recovery has been estimated considering an electric minicar that transits on a bumpy road. The recovered power has a total value of about 250W.

Dynamic Control of Static Converters for the Transition from Grid-on to Grid-off Operation of AC/DC Microgrids

In this paper, specific control logics defined for generators, controllable loads and electric energy storage systems are illustrated in order to improve the reliability of AC/DC hybrid microgrids in their grid-off operation following failure events such as short-circuits, line breaks, sudden disconnections of generating units or loads, etc. After defining specific control schemes, these were modelled in a digital environment and finally tested with dynamic simulations. Finally, the paper highlights the role of virtual synchronous machine control for the self-healing capacity of islanded hybrid microgrids.
