Microtrichial patterns of the mesothoracic wing surface in Scutelleridae (Hemiptera)

2013

AbstractNew data on forewing microtrichial patterns are presented. Nineteen species representing 19 genera and seven subfamilies of Afrotropical Scutelleridae are investigated using scanning electron microscopy. Four types of microtrichial patterns are recognised. The taxonomic importance of these structures in the Scutelleridae is discussed.

Combining work with family life is a topical and socially important question. This article examines how under-40-year old female PhD students with a family manage to combine the roles of a mother and a doctoral student in their everyday life and how they deal with the major and simultaneous challenges these roles bring. The focus is on the everyday challenges female PhD students face and the choices they have to make at the interface of family and study. This article is part of research examining the life course and future thinking of female PhD students. Nowadays the atmosphere of planning is all-pervasive. Individuals are expected to plan their life course carefully. They should plan thei…

Atmospheric correction for land surface temperature using NOAA-11 AVHRR channels 4 and 5

1991

Abstract In this work, a theoretical model that permits relating the land surface temperature with the temperatures measured by thermal infrared sensors has been developed. The model has been derived by linearization of Planck's function and atmospheric trasmittance. In this way a split-window equation is obtained, which depends on atmospheric water vapor, viewing angle, and channel surface emissivities. Simulations of satellite measurements of land surface temperatures are made using the atmospheric transmittance-radiance model LOWTRAN-7 for NOAA-11 AVHRR Channels 4 and 5. From these simulations the accuracies of linearizations have been checked. The dependence of the split-window coeffici…

Bandgap lowering in mixed alloys of Cs2Ag(SbxBi1−x)Br6 double perovskite thin films

2020

Halide double perovskites have gained significant attention, owing to their composition of low-toxicity elements, stability in air and long charge-carrier lifetimes. However, most double perovskites, including Cs2AgBiBr6, have wide bandgaps, which limit photo conversion efficiencies. The bandgap can be reduced through hallowing with Sb3+, but Sb-rich alloys are difficult to synthesise due to the high formation energy of Cs2AgSbBr6, which itself has a wide bandgap. We develop a solution-based route to synthesis phase-pure Cs2Ag(SbxBi1-x)Br6 thin films, with the mixing parameter x continuous varying over the entire composition range. We reveal that the mixed alloys (x between 0.5 and 0.9) dem…

Female Architecture

2015

The objective of this study is that one, starting from the initial considerations, to give back to the history of architecture, through drawing as a critical means of inquiry, the thought and work of some women-architect who, between 1926 and 1962, have designed and/or built buildings of fine architectural quality. The critical re-drawing, which in this case is mimetic to the construction of the project, wants to make manifest the thought of some figures of the Modern Movement often relegated to an unknown fate; in particular it analyses a part of the activity of Lilly Reich, Helena Niemirowska Syrkus and Charlotte Perriand. The study aims to build a graphic inedited and exhaustive repertor…

An Image Segmentation Algorithm based on Community Detection

2016

International audience; With the recent advances in complex networks, image segmentation becomes one of the most appropriate application areas. In this context, we propose in this paper a new perspective of image segmentation by applying two efficient community detection algorithms. By considering regions as communities, these methods can give an over-segmented image that has many small regions. So, the proposed algorithms are improved to automatically merge those neighboring regions agglomerative to achieve the highest modularity/stability. To produce sizable regions and detect homogeneous communities, we use the combination of a feature based on the Histogram of Oriented Gradients of the …

Manufactured object sub-segmentation based on reflection motion estimation

2015

International audience; In computer vision, reflection is a long-standing problem, it covers image textures, makes original color difficult to recognize, complicates the understanding of the scene. Most of the time, it is considered as “noise”. Many methods are proposed in order to reduce or delete the reflection effects in the image, but generally, the performances are not quite satisfactory. While instead of working on “de-noising”, we propose a method to take advantage of moving reflections that can be used for different computer vision applications. For instance, the segmentation of reflective manufactured objects is presented in this paper. We focus on tracking reflection components an…

Camera-based measurement of relative image contrast in projection displays

2013

International audience; This research investigated the measured contrast of projection displays based on pictures taken by un-calibrated digital cameras under typical viewing conditions. A high-end radiometer was employed as a reference to the physical response of projection luminance. Checkerboard, gray scale and color complex test images with a range of the projector's brightness and contrast settings were projected. Two local and two global contrast metrics were evaluated on the acquired pictures. We used contrast surface plots and Pearson correlation to investigate the measured contrast versus the projector's brightness and contrast settings. The results suggested, as expected, the proj…

A predictive approach for a real-time remote visualization of large meshes

2012

Déjà sur HAL; Remote access to large meshes is the subject of studies since several years. We propose in this paper a contribution to the problem of remote mesh viewing. We work on triangular meshes. After a study of existing methods of remote viewing, we propose a visualization approach based on a client-server architecture, in which almost all operations are performed on the server. Our approach includes three main steps: a first step of partitioning the original mesh, generating several fragments of the original mesh that can be supported by the supposed smaller Transfer Control Protocol (TCP) window size of the network, a second step called pre-simplification of the mesh partitioned, ge…

Multispectrum fits for line mixing in the ν3 band Q branch of methane

2003

International audience; First-order line-mixing coefficients and model relaxation matrix element scaling factors have been obtained for allowed transitions in the nu3 band Q branch of CH4 broadened by H2, He, N2, O2, Ar, and CH4. The broadening, shifting, Dicke-narrowing, and line-mixing parameters are determined by simultaneous least-squares fitting of spectra at pressures from 0.014 to 66.66 kPa recorded with a high-resolution difference-frequency laser. These results confirm, improve, and extend a previous analysis of the lower pressure (613.3 kPa) data [A.S. Pine, J. Chem. Phys. 97 (1992) 773] which yielded averaged coefficients of individually fit spectra where adjacent broadened lines…
