Foreign language learning is the locus of varying degrees of interference from the learner’s first language (L1), the product of this influence being called interlanguage. As such, it is important to identify those areas of the L1 which could lead to negative transfers into the target language and thus result in imperfect learning. The present paper is concerned with English learning by speakers of Romanian, and analyses possible L1 retentions resulting from the use of English borrowings that diverge grammatically from their original counterparts. Choosing genotypes with a high capacity for taking up nitrogen (N) from the soil and the ability to efficiently compete with weeds for this nutrient is essential to increasing the sustainability of cropping systems that are less dependent on auxiliary inputs. 1H NMR-based metabolic profiling for evaluating poppy seed rancidity and brewing

Poppy seeds are widely used in household and commercial confectionery. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the application of metabolic profiling for industrial monitoring of the molecular changes which occur during minced poppy seed rancidity and brewing processes performed on raw seeds. Both forms of poppy seeds were obtained from a confectionery company. Investigation of the hygienic safety of aromatic plants cultivated in soil contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes

Abstract The present work was undertaken to investigate the survival of Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19114T in soil during the whole crop cycle of rocket (Eruca sativa Mill.) and basil (Ocimum basilicum L.), to monitor its transfer to the leaves, and to evaluate its viability at harvest. To this purpose, the soil was N–P–K fertilized and four trials, obtained with different combinations of soil treatment, listerial inoculums and seed planting, were followed for each aromatic plant. Labor Market Search, Housing Prices and Borrowing Constraints.

Mortgage market deregulation in the early 1980s coincided in time with a sharp break in the cyclical behavior of many variables related to housing and to the labor market. This paper analyses the joint dynamics of labor market variables, output and housing prices in a search model with efficient bargaining and financial frictions. In a setting of household heterogeneity, only mortgaged-backed loans are available for impatient households, whose borrowing cannot exceed a proportion of the expected value of their real estate holdings. "Awake Surgery" of Slow-Growing Tumors and Cortical Excitability Measured by EEG Recordings. Preliminary Results

International audience; To investigate interhemispheric imbalance following "awake surgeries" of slow-growing tumors we recorded EEG in a visuo-manual RT paradigm. Increase of cortical excitability within the ipsilesional hemisphere was signed by increased ERPs amplitude for two patients. The cortical excitability in the lesioned hemisphere may be increased to maintain performances and cerebral plasticity.

The role of competition and rarity in the restoration of a dry grassland in Finland

Semi-natural grasslands have become scarce throughout Europe. Preservation of their plant species requires either the maintenance of the existing grasslands or the creation of new ones. To study the establishment and regeneration ability of plant species typical of dry grasslands we laid out an experiment on a former arable field in central Finland. We compared the success of 13 grassland species both in a theoretical situation with minimal competition and in competition with weeds. More than half of the species used were regionally rare.
