Adaptive distributed outlier detection for WSNs.

2014

The paradigm of pervasive computing is gaining more and more attention nowadays, thanks to the possibility of obtaining precise and continuous monitoring. Ease of deployment and adaptivity are typically implemented by adopting autonomous and cooperative sensory devices; however, for such systems to be of any practical use, reliability and fault tolerance must be guaranteed, for instance by detecting corrupted readings amidst the huge amount of gathered sensory data. This paper proposes an adaptive distributed Bayesian approach for detecting outliers in data collected by a wireless sensor network; our algorithm aims at optimizing classification accuracy, time complexity and communication com…

Fuzzy techniques for access and data management in home automation environments

2012

Home Automation Environments are characterized by the integration of electronic devices as well as by the performance of communication and control systems. Environment infrastructure has to meet several requirements including Quality of Service (QoS), safety, security, and energy saving. However, Home Automation deals with complex environments, so that advanced data management systems are required to meet the above constraints. Fuzzy Logic based techniques can be successful used to improve system performance management. This work proposes and describes the use and application of fuzzy rules on a two-tiered architecture integrating a biometric authentication module and communication real-tim…

A scalable platform for safe and secure decentralized traffic management of multiagent mobile systems

2006

In this paper we describe the application of wireless sensor networking techniques to address the realization of a safe and secure decentralized traffic management system. We consider systems of many heterogeneous autonomous vehicles moving in a shared environment. Each vehicle is assumed to have different and possibly unspecified tasks, but they cooperate to avoid collisions. We are interested in designing a scalable architecture capable of accommodating a very large and dynamically changing number of vehicles, guaranteeing their safety, the achievement of their goals, and security against potential adversaries. By properly distributing and revoking cryptographic keys we are able to protec…

An Agent-based Service Network for Personal Mobile Devices

2006

We propose the Agent Network for Bluetooth Devices, a system that uses personal mobile devices as adaptive human-environment interfaces to supply people with ad hoc information and high-level services. The ANBD system operates with a hierarchical framework of service-providing nodes, dynamically composed and managed by mobile agents.

Body Area Networks and Healthcare

2014

Derived from Wireless Sensor Networks, Body Area Networks, comprise a wide range of typologies with sensor nodes placed on, close to, or implanted in the body that measure physiological signs. The availability of compact mobile computing devices makes it possible to integrate traditional healthcare with new powerful means. New paradigms in public health are arising from these developments, such as e-health and mHealth, and new converging applications can be envisioned. Physiological data acquisition provided by BANs may give care providers a unobtrusive real-time view on patient’s health. On the other hand, the patient may be informed, assisted and even given the proper treatment by care pr…

A Spatial-Temporal Correlation Approach for Data Reduction in Cluster-Based Sensor Networks

2019

International audience; In a resource-constrained Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the optimization of the sampling and the transmission rates of each individual node is a crucial issue. A high volume of redundant data transmitted through the network will result in collisions, data loss, and energy dissipation. This paper proposes a novel data reduction scheme, that exploits the spatial-temporal correlation among sensor data in order to determine the optimal sampling strategy for the deployed sensor nodes. This strategy reduces the overall sampling/transmission rates while preserving the quality of the data. Moreover, a back-end reconstruction algorithm is deployed on the workstation (Sink)…

Propagation Channels for mmWave Vehicular Communications : State-of-the-art and Future Research Directions

2018

Vehicular communications essentially support automotive applications for safety and infotainment. For this reason, industry leaders envision an enhanced role for vehicular communications in the fifth generation of mobile communications technology. Over the years, the number of vehicle- mounted sensors has increased steadily, which potentially leads to more volume of critical data communications in a short time. Also, emerging applications such as remote/autonomous driving and infotainment such as high-definition movie streaming require data-rates on the order of multiple Gb/s. Such high data rates require a large system bandwidth, but very limited bandwidth is available in the sub-6 GHz cel…

Design of SCMA Codebooks using Differential Evolution

2020

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a promising technology which meets the demands of massive connectivity in future wireless networks. Sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a popular code-domain NOMA technique. The effectiveness of SCMA comes from: (1) the multi-dimensional sparse codebooks offering high shaping gain and (2) sophisticated multi-user detection based on message passing algorithm (MPA). The codebooks of the users play the main role in determining the performance of SCMA system. This paper presents a framework to design the codebooks by taking into account the entire system including the SCMA encoder and the MPA-based detector. The symbol-error rate (SER) is considered as…

Online Non-linear Topology Identification from Graph-connected Time Series

2021

Estimating the unknown causal dependencies among graph-connected time series plays an important role in many applications, such as sensor network analysis, signal processing over cyber-physical systems, and finance engineering. Inference of such causal dependencies, often know as topology identification, is not well studied for non-linear non-stationary systems, and most of the existing methods are batch-based which are not capable of handling streaming sensor signals. In this paper, we propose an online kernel-based algorithm for topology estimation of non-linear vector autoregressive time series by solving a sparse online optimization framework using the composite objective mirror descent…
