A User-Balanced System for IP Telephony in WLANs
2008
Wireless IP telephony is becoming very popular between the users of large wireless local area networks (WLANs). This increment has been mainly caused because it allows cost savings. Although, large WLANs use to provide high availability and redundancy, WLANs lack on the available throughput when there are many IP telephony users. In this paper we present a system that reallocates IP telephony devices when the system detects that an AP is overloaded. The algorithm and the frames used for our proposal are described. Measurements taken show how the bandwidth consumed is transferred from an access point to another when our proposal is running. Finally, we show the time needed to re-associate re…
Design, Implementation and Experimental Evaluation of a Wireless MAC Processor over commercial WIFI cards
2014
In this thesis we face the problem of wireless network programmability as a solution for coping with context-dependent optimizations, moving from one-for-all standard solutions to the concept of programmable wireless interfaces. Although the wireless research and academic community has proposed interesting platforms (e.g. based on Software Defined Radio) for pushing forward dynamic reprogrammability of devices, we argue that it is important to identify a tradeoff between programmability space and usability of the programmable interface. In this direction, we introduce the concept of Wireless MAC Processor and developed a running prototype over an ultra-cheap wireless card. Wireless MAC proc…
Wireless Power Transfer System Design for E-bikes Application
2019
The present work presents an analysis of Inductive Coupled Power Transfer (ICPT) Systems behaviour applied to electrical bikes. In particular, the study has focused on the design of the coupled coils of this system. In the first part of the work, the theoretical aspects of the wireless power system are handled. In the second part of the work, the inductive features of the coupled windings are analyzed. In order to perform this process, the Ansys Maxwell software has been used, performing 3D simulations. To conclude, the results of the simulations are compared.
A Novel Wireless Sensor Network for Electric Power Metering
2013
Wireless sensor network with lightweight and efficient communication infrastructures are today a great interest, both at research and industrial level, as they are the basis for reliable monitoring services. Mesh networks are ideal candidates in this scenario, as they can be very fault-tolerant. After introducing wireless network systems requirements, we show the design of a mesh network routing protocol based on AODV schemas. Its implementation runs on top of low-cost off-the-shelf components, and allowed us to build a custom power meter wireless sensor node.
Quantum wire with periodic serial structure
1991
Electron wave motion in a quantum wire with periodic structure is treated by direct solution of the Schr\"odinger equation as a mode-matching problem. Our method is particularly useful for a wire consisting of several distinct units, where the total transfer matrix for wave propagation is just the product of those for its basic units. It is generally applicable to any linearly connected serial device, and it can be implemented on a small computer. The one-dimensional mesoscopic crystal recently considered by Ulloa, Casta\~no, and Kirczenow [Phys. Rev. B 41, 12 350 (1990)] is discussed with our method, and is shown to be a strictly one-dimensional problem. Electron motion in the multiple-stu…

2020
This proceedings book presents the latest research findings, and theoretical and practical perspectives on innovative methods and development techniques related to the emerging areas of Web computing, intelligent systems and Internet computing. The Web has become an important source of information, and techniques and methodologies that extract quality information are of paramount importance for many Web and Internet applications. Data mining and knowledge discovery play a key role in many of today’s major Web applications, such as e-commerce and computer security. Moreover, Web services provide a new platform for enabling service-oriented systems. The emergence of large-scale distributed co…
Smart Monitoring for Semantic Wireless (SCADA/DCS) Systems with Semantic SNMP Protocol.
2015
International audience; n this paper we propose a new implementation of SNMP protocol through (WS) and SOAP protocol, for wireless semantic (SCADA/DCS) systems and (IT-SCADA) platform monitoring. (WS) and SOAP may run on top of secure transport services implemented through protocols like HTTPS combined with industrial protocols as (DNP3, SOAP, ISM BAND, and ZIGBEE).We chose ZIGBBE wireless protocol for implementing our semantic security (IT-SCADA) management platform with semantic SNMP protocol via WS. To detect and infiltrate wireless radio network and semantic attacks, the use of (WS) gateways is needed to include SNMP devices into (WS) based management architecture. The evaluation shows …
WiSHFUL : enabling coordination solutions for managing heterogeneous wireless networks
2017
The paradigm shift toward the Internet of Things results in an increasing number of wireless applications being deployed. Since many of these applications contend for the same physical medium (i.e., the unlicensed ISM bands), there is a clear need for beyond-state-of-the-art solutions that coordinate medium access across heterogeneous wireless networks. Such solutions demand fine-grained control of each device and technology, which currently requires a substantial amount of effort given that the control APIs are different on each hardware platform, technology, and operating system. In this article an open architecture is proposed that overcomes this hurdle by providing unified programming i…
Parallel and Distributed Resource Allocation With Minimum Traffic Disruption for Network Virtualization
2017
Wireless network virtualization has been advocated as one of the most promising technologies to provide multifarious services and applications for the future Internet by enabling multiple isolated virtual wireless networks to coexist and share the same physical wireless resources. Based on the multiple concurrent virtual wireless networks running on the shared physical substrate, service providers can independently manage and deploy different end-users services. This paper proposes a new formulation for bandwidth allocation and routing problem for multiple virtual wireless networks that operate on top of a single substrate network to minimize the operation cost of the substrate network. We …
Optical wireless communication systems
2017
Abstract The emerging field of optical wireless communication (OWC) systems is seen as potential complementary technology to the radio frequency wireless communications in certain applications. It is deemed as a possible technology in the future 5th Generation communication networks to address the spectrum congestion and improve the system’s capacity. More research and developments in OWC is still needed in order for it to be adopted in current and future communication systems. This special issue brings together research papers on OWC covering free space optic, visible communications and ultraviolet communications.
