Sensor Node Network for Remote Moisture Measurement in Timber Based on Bluetooth Low Energy and Web-Based Monitoring System

This paper proposes an IoT system based on wireless BLE connectivity to monitor the moisture content of wood, using a compact and low-cost moisture device that relies on a resistance measurement method valid for an ultra-wide range of resistance values. This device is digitally controlled with a BLE-incorporated micro-controller characterized by its small size and low power consumption, providing long-life battery. High-performing Sn-Co nanowire electrodes as anodes for lithium-ion batteries

Abstract The preparation of Sn 2 Co 3 nanowire arrays (NWs) electrogrown inside the channels of polycarbonate membranes and their characterization as anodes for Li-ion batteries both in half-cell vs. Li and in battery configuration are reported. The Sn 2 Co 3 NW electrodes tested by deep galvanostatic charge/discharge cycles in ethylene carbonate-dimethylcarbonate (1:1) – LiPF 6 1 M displayed 80% capacity retention after 200 cycles at C/2 and 30 °C, and a high charge and discharge rate capability at C-rate from C/3 (0.33 A/g) to 10C (10 A/g) at 30° and 10 °C. An efficient wireless power transfer prototype for electrical vehicles

Based on the inductive power transfer (IPT), the contactless approach allows safe and comfortable operations of battery charging for Electric Vehicles (EVs). In this paper, a contactless system particularly suitable for E-bike battery charging is proposed. A practical realization of the system has been carried out, aiming at the system evaluation in terms of working and efficiency. Through a phase shift modulation, a power regulation has been implemented. The target power level is 100 W.

Wireless Power Transmission for house appliances: A small-scale resonant coupling prototype

This paper presents a low cost prototype of wireless power transfer system based on resonant coupling. The system here proposed can be useful for house appliances battery charging systems: as a matter of fact, it consists mainly of two copper wire coils or windings, placed one in front of the other on the same axis. By exploiting the coils resonance coupling effect, electric energy can be transferred from the inductor coil to the receiver in order to charge the batteries. Low cost experimental tests demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed wireless power transfer prototype, being it capable to reach an efficiency of about 80% and more along a distance of 30 cm.

Toward Tin-Based High-Capacity Anode for Lithium-Ion Battery

Electrochemical deposition of SnCo alloys inside the nanometric pores of commercial membranes is described. Composition, morphology and crystallographic structure of the synthesized nanostructured alloys are reported as well as the results of electrochemical tests carried out both in half-cell and in full battery configuration to investigate the performance of these SnCo alloys as anodes for lithium-ion batteries. Optimized depositions yielded nanostructured alloys that performed 200 deep galvanostatic cycles at C/2 and 30 °C with 80 % capacity retention and coulombic efficiency higher than 97 % after 40 cycles Moreover, charge-discharge rate capability tests showed the high performance of …

Self-Powered IoT Device for Indoor Applications

This paper presents a proof of concept for selfpowered Internet of Things (IoT) device, which is maintenance free and completely self-sustainable through energy harvesting. These IoT devices can be deployed in large scale and placed anywhere as long as they are in range of a gateway, and as long as there is sufficient light levels for the solar panel, such as indoor lights. A complete IoT device is designed, prototyped and tested. Design and implementation of a long-range low-power wake-up radio for IoT devices

In this paper, we present the design and implementation of an on-demand wake-up radio (WuR) for long-range wireless IoT devices to reduce the power consumption, thereby increasing the life time of the devices. A custom narrow-band (NB) low noise amplifier is designed and implemented for WuR. The low-noise amplifier achieves a gain of 31 dB at 1 mA current consumption from a 6 V power supply. The WuR achieves a sensivity of -80 dBm by consuming just 1 mA, thereby optimizing the energy consumption of battery powered long-range IoT devices, hence reducing the power consumption and overall costs when deployed in large scale.
