Distributed Resource Allocation for Energy Efficiency in OFDMA Multicell Networks with Wireless Power Transfer

2019

In this paper, an energy-efficient resource allocation problem is investigated for the wireless power transfer (WPT)-enabled OFDMA multicell networks. In the considered system, multiple base stations (BSs) with a large number of antennas are responsible to provide WPT in the downlink, and the users can recycle and utilize the received energy for uplink data transmission. The role of BS is to execute WPT; thus, there are no data transmissions in the downlink. A time-division protocol is considered to divide the time of downlink WPT and uplink wireless information transfer into separate time slots. With the objective to improve the energy efficiency, we propose the time, subcarrier, and power…

Energy Efficient Sink Placement in Wireless Sensor Networks by Brain Storm Optimization Algorithm

2018

Wireless sensor networks represent one of the most promising technologies whose use has significantly increased in the past years. They are used in various applications such as health care monitoring, surveillance and monitoring in agriculture, industrial monitoring, habitat and underwater monitoring, etc. Deployment of the wireless sensor networks introduces number of hard optimization problems. Placement of the elements such as sensors, gateways, sinks and base stations, depend on different conditions and constraints such as signal propagation, distance, energy preservation, reliability. In this paper, we propose a method based on brain storm optimization algorithm for placing multiple si…

A Novel Multi-hop Broadcasting Method for VANETs Based on Autonomic Computing Paradigm

2014

One of the three best papers, Selected for the Annals of Telecommunications journal; International audience; Broadcasting is widely used in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) but it is hard to achieve efficiently since it depends on the network density, i.e. may cause network congestion if the protocols are not well designed. This paper introduces a novel Autonomic Dissemination Method (ADM) which delivers messages in accordance with given priority and density levels. The proposed approach is based on two steps: an offline optimization process and an online adaptation to the network characteristics. The aim is to make effective use of radio resources when there are many messages to send imu…

Virtual Resource Allocation for Wireless Virtualized Heterogeneous Network with Hybrid Energy Supply

2022

In this work, two novel virtual user association and resource allocation algorithms are introduced for a wireless virtualized heterogeneous network with hybrid energy supply. In the considered system, macro base stations (MBSs) are supplied by the grid power and small base stations (SBSs) have the energy harvesting capability in addition to the grid power supplement. Multiple infrastructure providers (InPs) own the physical resources, i.e., BSs and radio resources. The Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) are able to recent these resources from the InPs and operate the virtualized resources for providing services to different users. In particular, aiming to maximize the overall utility …

Efficacy of swm appliance in the expression of first-, second- and third-order information in Class I and Class II

2019

Background To assess the efficacy of a multibracket appliance-Straight-wire Mirabella (SWM) prescription-in terms of achieving the ideal first-, second- and third-order values proposed by Andrews. Material and methods A total sample of 46 Caucasian subjects was divided into two groups: 23 with class I malocclusion (Group 1), and 23 with class II malocclusion (Group 2). The treatment protocol involved fixed multibracket appliances-SWM prescription-for both groups, with the addition of class II elastics for Group 2. Values for ΔU1-PP, ΔIMPA, in-out, tip and torque were measured on digital scans, and the results obtained were compared with the ideal values proposed by Andrews. Results Statisti…

Rates of tooth movement and bone remodeling activity : self-ligating versus conventional brackets

2019

Background Bracket systems have been developed with the purpose of reducing frictional resistance between the archwire and accessories. The aim of this research was to compare rates of tooth movement and regions of cellular bone modeling activity along tooth root surfaces of teeth moved with conventional vs. self-ligating brackets. Material and Methods The experiments were conducted in 20 male dogs. Bands were cemented in all intermediate incisors, with conventional brackets (Morelli) on the right side and hybrid self-ligating ones (T3-American Orthodontics) on the left side. A 0.019” x 0.025” stainless steel wire was inserted passively in the slot of these brackets with chain elastics (250…

Comparison of torque expression in esthetic brackets

2019

Background The objective of this work is to test the null hypothesis that there is no difference in the torque expression among different esthetic brackets. Material and methods Five ceramic self-ligating brackets (In-Ovation C - GAC, Damon Clear-Ormco, QuicKlear-Forestadent, Click-It -TP Orthodontics, Clarity SL-3M Unitek) and 4 ceramic conventional brackets (Inspire Ice-Ormco, InVu Ceramic-TP Orthodontics, Ceramic Roth-Morelli, Clarity Metal-Reinforced Ceramic Bracket-3M Unitek) were selected. Metallic Damon MX self-ligating bracket (Ormco) was used as control. Third-order moments were measured at 12o, 24o and 36o using an archwire torsion device associated with a Universal Testing Machin…

An OFDM Receiver Exploiting Multipath Diversity

2008

We propose a novel receiver structure, to be employed with standard Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing transmitters, capable of exploiting the multipath diversity of wireless channels. The proposed technique is based on cancellation of inter-block interference arising in the guard interval and linear detection techniques. It features a low implementation complexity and is easily generalized to MIMO systems and non-linear detection techniques.

Decentralized Lightweight Group Key Management for Dynamic Access Control in IoT Environments

2020

Rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices dealing with sensitive data has led to the emergence of new access control technologies in order to maintain this data safe from unauthorized use. In particular, a dynamic IoT environment, characterized by a high signaling overhead caused by subscribers' mobility, presents a significant concern to ensure secure data distribution to legitimate subscribers. Hence, for such dynamic environments, group key management (GKM) represents the fundamental mechanism for managing the dissemination of keys for access control and secure data distribution. However, existing access control schemes based on GKM and dedicated to IoT are mainly based on ce…

UWSim-NET: An Open-Source Framework for Experimentation in Communications for Underwater Robotics

2019

The communication with the remotely operated vehicles (ROV) in underwater applications are usually based on umbilical cables. The increase in the number of ROVs in cooperative interventions motivates the interest in underwater wireless communications. They have a high impact in robotic applications because of their limited performance in underwater scenarios. In this work we present UWSim-NET, an extension of the simulator for underwater robotics UWSim, which is based on the Robot Operating System (ROS). UWSim-NET integrates a communications module based on Network Simulator 3 (NS3) that allows to model the physical and data link layers. Experiments demonstrating the capabilities of UWSim-N…
