‘Sombre est la nuit’ : masculin et féminin dans "Les Noces de Figaro" de Mozart
2021
International audience; Tour à tour mélancolique et drôle, d’une invention mélodique inépuisable, l’opéra « Les Noces de Figaro » est célèbre pour son sens du théâtre, son invention musicale et vocale inégalée, mais Mozart tenait particulièrement à sa dimension humaine. Stéphanie Genand apporte donc à cet opéra mythique un éclairage novateur particulièrement pertinent.
Female choice for male drumming in the wolf spiderHygrolycosa rubrofasciata
1997
Mate preferences in invertebrates have usually been studied with simultaneous choice exper- iments alone, which allows eVective detection of any preferences but does not tell much about the strength of inter-sexual selection. Under natural conditions females frequently have to rely on sequential choice, and choosy females may incur opportunity and direct costs such as loss of time when they reject a male. Female preference in the wolf spider Hygrolycosa rubrofasciata for two components of male courtship signalling, rate and volume, was investigated. Both of these characteristics were tested with a sequential choice set-up and the eVect of volume also with a simultaneous choice method. Femal…
Economic Design Approach for an SPC Inspection Procedure Implementing The Adaptive C Chart
2013
The present paper proposes a design approach for a statistical process control (SPC) procedure implementing a c control chart for non-conformities, with the aim to minimize the hourly total quality-related costs. The latter take into account the costs arising from the non-conforming products while the process is in-control and out-of-control, for false alarms, for assignable cause locations and system repairs, for sampling and inspection activities and for the system downtime. The proposed economic optimization approach is constrained by the expected hourly false alarms frequency, as well as the available labor resource level. A mixed integer non-linear constrained mathematical model is dev…
Spatial Memory Drives Foraging Strategies of Wolves, but in Highly Individual Ways
2022
The ability of wild animals to navigate and survive in complex and dynamic environments depends on their ability to store relevant information and place it in a spatial context. Despite the centrality of spatial memory, and given our increasing ability to observe animal movements in the wild, it is perhaps surprising how difficult it is to demonstrate spatial memory empirically. We present a cognitive analysis of movements of several wolves (Canis lupus) in Finland during a summer period of intensive hunting and den-centered pup-rearing. We tracked several wolves in the field by visiting nearly all GPS locations outside the den, allowing us to identify the species, location and timing of ne…
High speed X-ray analysis of plant enzymes at room temperature.
2013
X-ray measurements at room temperature (295 K) deliver high quality data sets with unprecedented speed (2 min), as shown for crystallized raucaffricine-O-β-D-glucosidase (RG), its mutant RG-Glu186Gln and several ligand complexes of the enzyme which participates in alkaloid biosynthesis in the plant Rauvolfia. The data obtained are compared with data sets measured under typical cryo conditions (100K). Under both conditions, density maps are highly comparable and favor the described protocol for room temperature measurements, potentially paving the way for future crystallographic studies capturing biosynthetic pathway intermediates.
Chapter 2 Biosynthesis in Rauwolfia serpentina Modern Aspects of an Old Medicinal Plant
1995
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses a research on Rauwolfia , which was achieved after the generation of a cell suspension with extraordinary growth characteristics and physiological behavior. The investigations demonstrated that a range of techniques is now available for the clarification of complete metabolic pathways, provided that the appropriate efficient biological system is available. The isolation and identification of each single enzyme have almost become routine, even if an extremely sensitive protein analytic technique is necessary when several kilograms of fresh plant cells are reduced to a few micrograms of homogenous protein. The successful identification of a total of 20…
Synthesis of (+)-podocarp-8(14)-en-13-one and methyl-(+)-13-oxo-podocarp-8(14)-en-18-oate from abietic acid
1985
Abstract An efficient method for the preparation of (+)-podocarp-8(14)-en-13-one 6 and methyl-(+)-13-oxo-podocarp-8(14)-en-18-oate 8 from abietic acid is described.
Suden uskonnollinen asema antiikin Roomassa
2018
Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tutkia suden uskonnollista merkitystä antiikin Roomassa sekä tuoda esille suden ja Rooman välisen erityissuhteen taustoja. Keskeisinä tutkimuskysymyksinäni on selvittää, missä määrin roomalaisten ja lähikansojen susiin liittyvissä kulteissa oli yhteisiä rakennetekijöitä, mikä oli suden merkitys roomalaisille enne-eläimenä sekä välttelivätkö roomalaiset susiin kohdistuvaa väkivaltaa. Tutkimukseni perustuu klassillisen filologian metodiin eli kielellisten dokumenttien kriittiseen tarkasteluun historiallisessa ja kulttuurisessa kontekstissaan. Osoitan tutkimuksessani, ettei suden uskonnollinen erityisasema rajoittunut antiikin Italiassa pelkästään roomalaisiin.…
Expression, purification, crystallization and preliminary X-ray analysis of perakine reductase, a new member of the aldo-keto reductase enzyme superf…
2006
Perakine reductase (PR) is a novel member of the aldo-keto reductase enzyme superfamily from higher plants. PR from the plant Rauvolfia serpentina is involved in the biosynthesis of monoterpenoid indole alkaloids by performing NADPH-dependent reduction of perakine, yielding raucaffrinoline. However, PR can also reduce cinnamic aldehyde and some of its derivatives. After heterologous expression of a triple mutant of PR in Escherichia coli, crystals of the purified and methylated enzyme were obtained by the hanging-drop vapour-diffusion technique at 293 K with 100 mM sodium citrate pH 5.6 and 27% PEG 4000 as precipitant. Crystals belong to space group C222(1) and diffract to 2.0 A, with unit-…
Response to methimazole in Graves' disease
1995
Summary OBJECTIVE A variety of regimens continue to be used In the treatment of Graves' disease with antithyrold drugs. We have lnvestigated the factors which determine the initial response to methimazole (time until euthyroidism Is achieved) In Graves' disease. PATIENTS Five hundred and nine patients with Graves' disease in different European countries with normal and subnormal iodine supply. Patients were randomized to treatment with either 10 or 40mg of methimazole per day for one year, with levothyroxine supplementation as required to maintain euthyroidism. Investigations were carried out before treatment and at 3 and 6 weeks and 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. MEASUREMENTS Response was assessed…
