Kalevalan naiset ja tiedon yöpuoli : Lönnrotin jalanjäljissä kohti Kalevalan naisten tarinoita

2017

My dissertation deals with the most important female figures of the Finnish national epic New Kalevala (1849): Aino, Louhi, Lemminkäinen’s mother and Marjatta. The epic was compiled by Elias Lönnrot (1802–1884) from Karelian and Finnish oral folklore. My reading leans on the intuitive night side of knowledge, which Lönnrot (1832) introduced as a counterpart to the day side of rational knowledge. To illustrate the logic of the night side of knowledge, I analyse Lönnrot as both a collector of oral folklore and a compiler of a work of epic poetry. I propose that Lönnrot’s choice of presenting the Kalevala as an epic – a total work of art – provided the stories of its female characters with the…

INTEGRATED SURVEY FOR ARCHITECTURAL RESTORATION: A METHODOLOGICAL COMPARISON OF TWO CASE STUDIES

2016

Abstract. A preliminary survey campaign is essential in projects of restoration, urban renewal, rebuilding or promotion of architectural heritage. Today several survey techniques allow full 3D object restitution and modelling that provides a richer description than simple 2D representations. However, the amount of data to collect increases dramatically and a trade-off between efficiency and productivity from one side and assuring accuracy and completeness of the results on the other must be found. Depending on the extent and the complexity of the task, a single technique or a combination of several ones might be employed. Especially when documentation at different scales and with different …

Theatrum niezwykłości w "Kronice wszytkiego świata" Marcina Bielskiego

2016

Praca dotyczy fenomenu niezwykłości w dawnych wiekach.

Who enjoys listening to sad music and why?

2011

although people generally avoid negative emotional experiences in general, they often enjoy sadness portrayed in music and other arts. The present study investigated what kinds of subjective emotional experiences are induced in listeners by sad music, and whether the tendency to enjoy sad music is associated with particular personality traits. One hundred forty-eight participants listened to 16 music excerpts and rated their emotional responses. As expected, sadness was the most salient emotion experienced in response to sad excerpts. However, other more positive and complex emotions such as nostalgia, peacefulness, and wonder were also evident. Furthermore, two personality traits – Opennes…

«Fetal monstrosities». A comparision of evidenze in Sicily in modern age

2013

In Sicily reflections on monsters and on ‘generative stumbles’ first appear in a treaty of the second half of the sixteenth century, containing one of the first medical-physiological descriptions of two-headed births and written in the verncular by the famous physiologist and anatomist Giovanni Filippo Ingrassia. It is a work which can be attributed to the season of excitement characterized, in the period after 1550, by an explosion of interest in teratological codification, driven by a wider taxonomic interest in the living and the inanimate, but it also contains some original features that make it a model and example of the contemporary state of the art of legal medicine, of which Ingrass…
