A Hybrid Strategic Oscillation with Path Relinking Algorithm for the Multiobjective k-Balanced Center Location Problem
2021
This paper presents a hybridization of Strategic Oscillation with Path Relinking to provide a set of high-quality nondominated solutions for the Multiobjective k-Balanced Center Location problem. The considered location problem seeks to locate k out of m facilities in order to serve n demand points, minimizing the maximum distance between any demand point and its closest facility while balancing the workload among the facilities. An extensive computational experimentation is carried out to compare the performance of our proposal, including the best method found in the state-of-the-art as well as traditional multiobjective evolutionary algorithms.
A heuristic to schedule flexible job-shop in a glass factory
2005
We describe the design and implementation of a scheduling system in a glass factory. The factory produces a large variety of manufactured glass objects in a complex process ranging from melting the glass in the furnaces and blowing it automatically or manually to decorating, assembling and packing it. The structure basically corresponds to a flexible job-shop scheduling problem with some special characteristics. On the one hand, dealing with hot liquid glass imposes no-wait constraints on some operations. On the other hand, skilled workers performing some manual tasks are modelled as special machines. The system produces approximate solutions in very short computing times, trying to minimiz…
Teachers’ Readiness for Remote Teaching During COVID-19 Pandemic: The Case of Latvia
2021
The state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic influenced educational processes in schools all over the world. Teachers had a very short time to reform all their work and started to use new technologies, which increased their workload and level of stress. Information on factors affecting teachers’ readiness for remote teaching is insufficient, and we aimed to investigate it in this study. We performed a population-based cross-sectional study after the first experience of teachers working remotely during the Spring 2020 state of emergency in Latvia. We assessed the self-reported “overall readiness for remote teaching” using five sub-domains of a specific survey. We observed a reversed a…
The Physical and Mental Well-Being of Medical Doctors in the Silesian Voivodeship
2022
Physical and mental well-being are important determinants of medical doctors’ lives, including their professional activity, which has a direct impact on the health and lives of patients. The aim of the study was to assess the health condition of medical doctors from the Silesian Voivodeship. The physical health condition, including the prevalence of chronic diseases, drug therapy, and pro-health activities, was assessed. Data on mental health according to the HADS scale (hospital anxiety and depression scale) referred to the selected socio-economic and professional aspects of life, as well as life and job satisfaction. The doctors most often reported diseases of the circulatory system and d…
Workload Characterization in Multiplayer Online Games
2006
In recent years, distributed virtual environments (DVEs) have become a major trend in distributed applications, mainly due to the enormous popularity of multiplayer online games in the entertainment industry. Although the workload generated by avatars in a DVE system has already been characterized, the special features of multiplayer online games make these applications to require a particular workload characterization. This paper presents the workload characterization of multiplayer online games. This characterization is based on real traces, and it shows that the movement patterns of avatars used to develop optimization techniques for DVE systems can be extrapolated to First Person Shooti…
Physical Workload Analysis in Processing Operations: Metal Processing Manufacturing
2019
The aim of this study is to perform physical workload analysis in metal processing industry operations (assembly operators, packaging operators and inspection staff) using objective ergonomics research methods based on the heart rate monitoring and muscle fatigue. The study was carried out in a medium sized metal manufacturing enterprise in Latvia in the department of manufacturing of ironing boards. Assembly, packaging operators and inspection staff agreed to take part in the objective heart rate monitoring and muscle myotonometry measurements. Results show that workers are at high risk of developing WMSDs, since they are subjected to heavy manual work and load on muscles during work. Acco…
Multisite musculoskeletal pain trajectories from midlife to old age : a 28-year follow-up of municipal employees
2018
ObjectivesWe studied the developmental trajectories of multisite musculoskeletal pain (MSP) to learn whether pain in midlife persists to old age, and whether pain trajectories associate with midlife work or lifestyle exposures or retirement from work.MethodsMunicipal employees aged 44–58 years were studied in 1981 (n=6257) with follow-ups in 1985, 1992, 1997 and 2009. Pain in the neck, low back, and upper and lower limbs was assessed in each survey. Trajectories of the number (0–4) of pain sites were defined using growth mixture modelling (n=3093). Workload, lifestyle and morbidity were elicited by questionnaire and retirement from registries. Associations of baseline factors with pain traj…
PENGARUH BEBAN, KOMPENSASI DAN LINGKUNGAN KERJA TERHADAP DISIPLIN KERJA KARYAWAN
2020
This study aims to determine whether the workload, compensation and partial and simultaneous work environment of employee work discipline at PT. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk Manokwari Branch Office.
This type of research is associative quantitative research. The sample used in this study was 53 respondents with a sampling technique using Nonprobability Sampling. Data collection uses observation, interviews, and questionnaires.
The results of this study prove that work is significant for employee work discipline, significant compensation for employee work discipline, and work environment significantly affects employee work discipline. Simultaneously the workload, compensa…
Work characteristics in long-term temporary workers and temporary-to-permanent workers: A prospective study among Finnish health care personnel
2011
In this study, the authors seek to account for possible transitions from temporary to permanent employment in relation to perceived psychosocial work characteristics, i.e. job insecurity, workload, job control and organizational communication. The study compared three groups of Finnish hospital workers utilizing a two-wave design with a two-year time lag: (1) workers who were temporarily employed at Time 1 but permanently employed at Time 2 (temporary-to-permanent workers; n = 25); (2) workers who were temporarily employed at Time 1 and at Time 2 (long-term temporary workers; n = 45); and (3) a reference group of workers who were permanently employed at Time 1 and Time 2 (permanent workers…
Autonomy and Workload in Relation to Temporary and Permanent Workers’ Job Involvement
2010
The aim of the study was to investigate contract type (temporary vs. permanent employment) as a possible moderator in the relationship between autonomy and workload on the one hand, and job involvement on the other hand in samples from two countries: Belgium and Finland. The results on possible interactions were similar in the two countries. Contract type moderated the relationship between autonomy and job involvement: The relationship was stronger in permanent than in temporary workers. No moderation was found for workload. Instead, workload associated positively with job involvement in both temporary and permanent workers. These findings are discussed with reference to the activation hyp…
