Accurate Wound and Lice Detection in Atlantic Salmon Fish Using a Convolutional Neural Network
2022
The population living in the coastal region relies heavily on fish as a food source due to their vast availability and low cost. This need has given rise to fish farming. Fish farmers and the fishing industry face serious challenges such as lice in the aquaculture ecosystem, wounds due to injuries, early fish maturity, etc. causing millions of fish deaths in the fish aquaculture ecosystem. Several measures, such as cleaner fish and anti-parasite drugs, are utilized to reduce sea lice, but getting rid of them entirely is challenging. This study proposed an image-based machine-learning technique to detect wounds and the presence of lice in the live salmon fish farm ecosystem. A new equally di…
Speed Control of a two-Degrees of Freedom Induction Motor with Rotor Helical Motion for Industrial Applications
2014
This paper describes the realization of a two-degrees of freedom induction motor prototype with rotor helical motion, suitable for several industrial applications as grinders, augers, drilling and milling spindles, robotic arms and drives for medical tools and prostheses. This prototype was realized by combining a three-phase tubular linear induction motor (TLIM) with the stator of a three-phase rotary induction motor, resulting in a THMIM (Tubular Helical Motion Induction Motor). Moreover, a possible simple electrical drive, capable to control the helical motion, is proposed, simulated and analyzed. In particular, the mathematical model of the THMIM has been initially developed and, then, …
In vitro methodologies to evaluate biocompatibility: status quo and perspective
2005
Abstract The increasing use of biomaterials in clinical medicine to augment or replace failing organ function has heightened the need to apply relevant test systems to study the safety and efficacy of new medical devices. This becomes all the more important as the field of "tissue engineering" develops, in which the aim is to reconstruct tissue and organ function, for example, by using the patient's own cells seeded on to a three-dimensional (3-D) scaffold structure. In the biomaterial research field, there has been a necessary expansion of the concept of biocompatibility to address not only the biosafety issue, that is, the exclusion of cytotoxic and other deleterious effects of biomateria…
Investigation of motor current signature and vibration analysis for diagnosing rotor broken bars in double cage induction motors
2012
This paper investigates the detectability of rotor broken bars in double cage induction motors using current signature and vibration analysis techniques. Double cage induction motors are commonly used for applications where successive loaded starts-up are mandatory. Experimental results were performed under healthy and faulty cases, and for different load conditions using each technique. Rotor broken bars fault detection based on sideband current components may fails due to the presence of inter bar currents that reduce the degree of rotor asymmetry, yielding to a decrease of the magnitude of these spectral components. But inter bar currents produce core vibrations in the axial direction, w…
Method for designing PI-type fuzzy controllers for induction motor drives
2001
The paper illustrates a new systematic method for designing PI-type fuzzy controllers for direct field-oriented controlled induction motor drives. First, linear and decoupled models expressing the dynamics of speed, rotor flux, direct and inquadrature stator currents are derived using a nonlinear static compensator and choosing convenient input variables. Then, to guide the dynamics of the above quantities, four conventional PI controllers are designed independently, choosing their bandwidths conveniently. Finally, the input and output scale factors of PI-type fuzzy controllers are derived from the conventional PI controller parameters. The whole drive controller also includes a rotor flux …
Wind Electrical energy generating systems EMC. A dedicated experimental simulator for tests
2008
In wind electrical energy generating systems, due to fast voltage and current fluctuations, the power converter represents a source of electromagnetic disturbances. EMI problems of stand alone wind generators are here analysed in order to take into account many different power quality problems which result in voltage fluctuations and harmonics in the net. This paper, moreover, presents a wind turbine experimental simulator (WTES) that moves a wind electrical energy generating system (WEEGS) to carry out EMI measurements and the relative experimental results. The WEEGS here taken into account comprises a wound rotor induction generator (WRIG) in which the frequency transformation from the ro…
Vibration signature analysis for rotor broken bar diagnosis in double cage induction motor drives
2013
The paper investigates the diagnosis of rotor broken bars in field oriented controlled (FOC) double cage induction motor drives, using current and vibration signature analysis techniques. The Impact of the closed loop control system cannot be neglected when the detection of asymmetries in the machine are based on the signature analysis of electrical variables. The proposed diagnosis approach is based on optimized use of wavelet analysis by a pre-processing of phase current or axial/radial vibration signals. Thus, the time evolution of the tracked rotor fault components can be effectively analyzed. This paper shows also the relevance of the fault components computed from axial vibration sign…
Closed-loop bandwidth impact on MVSA for rotor broken bar diagnosis in IRFOC double squirrel cage induction motor drives
2013
This paper investigates the detectability of rotor broken bars in indirect rotor flux oriented control (IRFOC) for variable speed double cage induction motor drives, using vibration signature analysis techniques. The Impact of the closed loop control system cannot be neglected when the detection of rotor asymmetries in the machine is based on the signature analysis of electrical or mechanical variables. Therefore, the investigation of rotor fault components for different bandwidths of closed-loop regulators is necessary to evaluate its relevance in the above listed variables. This paper investigates the impact of the control system on relevance of the fault components computed from axial an…

Incluye: Correction: Burden of injury along the development spectrum: associations between the Socio-demographic Index and disability-adjusted life year estimates from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017. Inj Prev. 2020 Oct;26(Supp 1):i164. doi: 10.1136/injuryprev-2019-043296corr1. Epub 2020 Sep 28. PMID: 32989004 Background: The epidemiological transition of non-communicable diseases replacing infectious diseases as the main contributors to disease burden has been well documented in global health literature. Less focus, however, has been given to the relationship between sociodemographic changes and injury. The aim of this study was to examine the association between disability-adjuste…
