Development of ultrasound-assisted digestion methods for the determination of toxic element concentrations in ash samples by ICP-OES

The present thesis introduces several ultrasound-assisted digestion methods developed for the determination of toxic element concentrations in ash samples by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Ultrasound-assisted digestion is a quite new technique used for sample pre-treatment purposes, especially in difficult sample matrixes. Elements determined are As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Sb, Sr, V, and Zn. Most of the elements determined exist at a trace or ultra trace level in ashes and most are potential risks in the environment or human body even at low concentrations. The research described in this disseration covers the crystal form screening of two analogous agrochemical actives, thiophanate-methyl and thiophanate-ethyl, as well as the discovery of seven 4-hydroxybenzoic acid cocrystals of selected agrochemical actives. Polymorphs are crystal forms of a compound that have the same composition, but a different arrangement of molecules. Cocrystals are molecular crystals composed of two or more compounds, and refer mainly to crystals which contain compounds that are solids at standard conditions. Artificial cartilage bio-matrix formed of hyaluronic acid and Mg2+-polyphosphate.

Here we show that inorganic polyphosphate (polyP), a polyanionic metabolic regulator consisting of multiple phosphate residues linked by energy-rich phosphoanhydride bonds, is present in the synovial fluid. In a biomimetic approach, to enhance cartilage synthesis and regeneration, we prepared amorphous polyP microparticles with Mg2+ as counterions. The particles were characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopic (FTIR) analyses. Spin Wave Emission from Vortex Cores under Static Magnetic Bias Fields

We studied the influence of a static in-plane magnetic field on the alternating-field-driven emission of nanoscale spin waves from magnetic vortex cores. Time-resolved scanning transmission X-ray microscopy was used to image spin waves in disk structures of synthetic ferrimagnets and single ferromagnetic layers. For both systems, it was found that an increasing magnetic bias field continuously displaces the wave-emitting vortex core from the center of the disk toward its edge without noticeably altering the spin-wave dispersion relation. Self-Complementary Dimers of Oxalamide-Functionalized Resorcinarene Tetrabenzoxazines

Self‐complementarity is a useful concept in supramolecular chemistry, molecular biology and polymeric systems. Two resorcinarene tetrabenzoxazines decorated with four oxalamide groups were synthesized and characterized. The oxalamide groups possessed self‐complementary hydrogen bonding sites between the carbonyls and amide groups. The self‐complementary nature of the oxalamide groups resulted in self‐included dimeric assemblies. The hydrogen bonding interactions within the tetrabenzoxazines gave rise to the formation of dimers, which were confirmed by single‐crystal X‐ray diffractions analysis and supported by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. In the crystal structure of the title salt, C10H16N3O+·C7H5O2−, the cations and anions are linked to each other via N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming infinite chains running along [010]. The crystal structure also features C—H⋯O and π–π stacking inter­actions, which assemble the chains into supra­molecular layers parallel to (100). The π–π stacking inter­actions are observed between the pyridine rings of inversion-related cations with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.867 (2) Å. Spatially Resolved Broadband Synchrotron Emission from the Nonthermal Limbs of SN1006

We present ~400ks NuSTAR observations of the northeast (NE) and southwest (SW) non-thermal limbs of the Galactic SNR SN1006. We discovered three sources with X-ray emission detected at >50keV. Two of them are identified as background AGN. We extract the NuSTAR spectra from a few regions along the non-thermal limbs and jointly analyze them with the XMM-Newton spectra and the radio data. The broad-band radio/X-ray spectra can be well described with a synchrotron emission model from a single population of CR electrons with a power law energy distribution and an exponential cutoff. Discovery of slow X-ray pulsations in the high-mass X-ray binary 4U 2206+54

Context. The source 4U 2206+54 is one of the most enigmatic high-mass X-ray binaries. In spite of intensive searches, X-ray pul- sations have not been detected in the time range 10−3–103 s. A cyclotron line at ∼30 keV has been suggested by various authors but never detected with significance. The stellar wind of the optical companion is abnormally slow. The orbital period, initially reported to be 9.6 days, disappeared and a new periodicity of 19.25 days emerged. Aims. Influence of Grain Size, Oxygen Stoichiometry, and Synthesis Conditions on the γ-Fe2O3 Vacancies Ordering and Lattice Parameters

The soft chemistry method has been used to synthesize γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles: various synthesis temperature were applied to obtain nanometric powders with crystallite size in the 9–14 nm range. Powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrophotometry, surface area measurements, and electron microscopy (TEM, SEM). It is clearly shown that these nanometric powders are very well crystallized as indicated by XRD and IR spectra which present substructural bands attributed to vacancies ordering (P4132).
