Direct determination of minerals in human diets by infrared spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence
2014
The use of near and mid infrared spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) to determine the concentration of mineral elements in Spanish human diets was investigated. Thirty-five commercial baby foods, 6 children fast food menus and 13 university canteen menu samples were analysed by infrared and XRF spectroscopy and spectra evaluated by using reference data obtained by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Models for calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, sodium and zinc determination were built and validated. Spectra were pre-treated by using different pre-processing algorithms (multiplicative scatter correction, standard normal variation, first derivate, ortho…
CEMS/XPS study of iron stearate Langmuir-Blodgett layers
1991
Langmuir-Blodgett mono- and multilayers of ferric stearate have been formed on oxidized silicon wafers. Thermodesorption of these layers was investigated by conversion electron Mossbauer and photoelectron spectroscopy and some complementary methods. Heating of samples in air up to 523 K leads to a desorption of the fatty acid chains, while the ferric ions are left on the substrate surface. These ions do not cluster laterally like it was found for Cd ions. They form a rather homogeneous, closed oxidic layer. This well defined layer may be used afterwards for further studies of surface reactions as well as interface and intra-layer interactions. The surface iron ions were found to exhibit a r…

Heterotrimetallic coordination polymers: {Cu(II)Ln(III)Fe(III)} chains and {Ni(II)Ln(III)Fe(III)} layers: synthesis, crystal structures, and magnetic…
2015
The use of the [Fe(III) (AA)(CN)4](-) complex anion as metalloligand towards the preformed [Cu(II) (valpn)Ln(III)](3+) or [Ni(II) (valpn)Ln(III) ](3+) heterometallic complex cations (AA=2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) and 1,10-phenathroline (phen); H2 valpn=1,3-propanediyl-bis(2-iminomethylene-6-methoxyphenol)) allowed the preparation of two families of heterotrimetallic complexes: three isostructural 1D coordination polymers of general formula {[Cu(II) (valpn)Ln(III) (H2O)3 (μ-NC)2 Fe(III) (phen)(CN)2 {(μ-NC)Fe(III) (phen)(CN)3}]NO3 ⋅7 H2O}n (Ln=Gd (1), Tb (2), and Dy (3)) and the trinuclear complex [Cu(II) (valpn)La(III) (OH2 )3 (O2 NO)(μ-NC)Fe(III) (phen)(CN)3 ]⋅NO3 ⋅H2O⋅CH3 CN (4) were obtained …
Synthesis and X-ray structure of cationic β-diimine palladium complexes containing π-methallyl ligand
2005
High yield of cationic palladium β-diimine complexes [(CH 2 (MeCNAr) 2 )Pd(η 3 -C 4 H 7 )][Y] (Ar = C 6 H 5 , Y = PF 6 (8); 2-Me-C 6 H 4 , Y = PF 6 (9); 2,6-Me 2 -C 6 H 3 , Y = PF 6 (10); 2,6-iPr 2 -C 6 H 3 , Y = PF 6 (11), Y = B(3,5-(CF 3 ) 2 -C 6 H 3 ) 4 (12)) have been obtained by an oxidative addition of the methallyloxyphosphonium salts (5, 6) to a preformed complex Pd(dba) 2 (7) in the presence of the β-iminoamine ligands (1-4). These complexes are thermally stable and have been characterized by 'H and 1 3 C{ 1 H} NMR as well as IR spectroscopy. The structure of the cationic allyl palladium complex (12) has been solved by X-ray crystallography.
Aggregation versus Biological Activity in Gold(I) Complexes. An Unexplored Concept
2021
The aggregation process of a series of mono- and dinuclear gold(I) complexes containing a 4-ethynylaniline ligand and a phosphane at the second coordination position (PR3-Au-C≡CC6H4-NH2, complexes 1-5, and (diphos)(Au-C≡CC6H4-NH2)2, complexes 6-8), whose biological activity was previously studied by us, has been carefully analyzed through absorption, emission, and NMR spectroscopy, together with dynamic light scattering and small-angle X-ray scattering. These experiments allow us to retrieve information about how the compounds enter the cells. It was observed that all compounds present aggregation in fresh solutions, before biological treatment, and thus they must be entering the cells as a…
Preparative, structural, and electrochemical investigations on peralkylated niobocene dichlorides and difluorides
1994
CP(dagger)2NbCl2 (CP(dagger) = 175-C5Me4Et) (1b) was synthesized from NbCl5 and a slight excess of Cp(dagger)Li and NaBH4. Its electrochemical (2 e-, E1/2 = -1.6 V) and chemical reduction (2 equiv of Na/Hg) was studied showing that peralkylation of the Cp ligand facilitates two-electron reduction compared to less substituted CP2NbHal2 derivatives. The reduced solutions of CP*2NbCl2 (CP* = C5Me5) (1a) and of lb were shown by means of EPR spectroscopy to contain two new paramagnetic species 1A,B for which bent niobocene (A(Nb) = 100 G) and fulvene-like structures (A(Nb) = 55 G) are proposed. The high reduction potential of these species led in their reaction with HPF6 to the first stable difl…
XAFS studies of local atomic structure of niobium tellurides
1997
Abstract We present XAFS (K-edge) studies of the local atomic structure around the Nb and Te ions in niobium tellurides (NbTe 2 , Nb 3 Te 4 and NbTe 4 ) in comparison with ZrTe 2 . Using a multi-shell best-fit analysis procedure, we have reconstructed local environments of the Nb and Te ions and compared them with the existing structural models. We found that at the Nb K-edge the XAFS data of NbTe 4 are extremely sensitive to metal clustering and to the subsequent departure from the average crystallographic positions. Moreover, at the Te K-edge the XAFS data allowed us to distinguished the different type of TeTe bonds, for instance: the dimer (TeTe: 2.9 A) and the squares (TeTe: 3.3 A) i…
Crystal structures of R2Pd2Pb (R = Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Lu) compounds
2004
Abstract The crystal structures of the R2Pd2Pb (R=Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Lu) compounds were determined using X-ray powder diffraction. The investigated compounds crystallize with Mo2FeB2 structure type (space group P4/mbm, Pearson code tP10). The importance of stabilization by polar intermetallic R–Pd bonding is underscored by a bonding analysis derived from electronic band structure calculations.
Properties of new low melting point quaternary ammonium salts with bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide anion
2010
Eight new monocationic quaternary ammonium (QA) salts with the bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI) anion were prepared by metathesis using our previously reported QA halides as precursors. New salts were characterized both in liquid and solid state using 1 H and 13 C NMR techniques, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis together with X-ray diffraction and thermoanalytical methods. In addition, residual water content, viscosity and conductivity measurements were made for three of the roomtemperature ionic liquids (RTILs). The crystal structures of three compounds were determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Powder diffraction was used to study the crystallinity of the solid …
