Characterization of prehispanic cosmetics found in a burial of the ancient city of Teotihuacan (Mexico)
2012
The present paper reports the chemical data obtained on samples of pigmenting materials contained in 31 miniature vessels found in a burial found in Teopancazco, a multiethnic neighborhood center located in the southeastern sector of the archaeological site of Teotihuacan (Central Mexico) and the analytical protocol established for the complete characterization of these archaeological materials. For this purpose a multi-technique approach based on the combination of several non destructive and micro-destructive instrumental techniques, namely, light microscopy (LM), scanning electron microscopy-X-ray micro-analysis (SEMe EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), voltammetry of micropart…

Study of the oxidation mechanisms of Plutonium
2022
Oxidation is a key point when applied to a material such as plutonium. It is essential to understand the oxidation mechanisms in order to predict and prevent catastrophic oxidation, thus managing the reprocessing cost. The originality of this work lies in the coupling of different experimental techniques : in-situ X-ray diffraction, Photo-electron spectroscopy (XPS), FIB-SEM, Raman spectrometry and X-ray absorption (EXAFS) with numerical techniques : CALPHAD and Reverse Monte Carlo, in order to determine the oxidation mechanisms of the studied alloy : -phase stabilised PuGa 1 at%.Study of oxidation of this alloy at different temperatures and oxygen partial pressures showed the oxidation kin…
Coordination Chemistry of a Bis(Tetrazine) Tweezer: A Case of Host-Guest Behavior with Silver Salts
2021
The carbon-carbon cross-coupling of phenyl s-tetrazine (Tz) units at their ortho-phenyl positions allows the formation of constrained bis(tetrazines) with original tweezer structures. In these compounds, the face-to-face positioning of the central tetrazine cores is reinforced by π-stacking of the electron-poor nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic moieties. The resulting tetra-aromatic structure can be used as a weak coordinating ligand with cationic silver. This coordination generates a set of bis(tetrazine)-silver(I) coordination complexes tolerating a large variety of counter anions of various geometries, namely, PF6−, BF4−, SbF6−, ClO4−, NTf2−, and OTf−. These compounds were characterized…

Crossing the boundary between fcc and hcp: the structure of nanosized cobalt is unraveled by a model of size distribution, shape and stacking faults …
2014
The properties of nanostructured cobalt in the fields of magnetic, catalytic and biomaterials depend critically on Co close-packing. In this paper we report a structural analysis of nanosized cobalt based on the whole XRD pattern simulation allowed by the Debye equation. The underlying structural model involves statistical sequences of cobalt layers and produces simulated XRD powder patterns bearing the concurrent signatures of hexagonal and cubic close packing. Size distribution, shape and distance distribution between pairs of atoms are also modelled. The simulation algorithm allows straightforward fitting to experimental data and hence the assessment of the model parameters. Analysis of …
Ionic conductivity of nanocrystalline heavily acceptor doped ceria: The role of the local atomic order
2014
Acceptor doped ceria (CeO2) is a material that over the years has attracted much interest for applications in solid oxide fuel cells and oxygen membranes. This study aims at systematically investigating how the local atomic order and the dopant distribution affect the ionic transport of nanocrystalline CeO2 ceramics doped with samarium, erbium and ytterbium, with concentrations ranging between 10 and 30 at.%. For this purpose, a.c. electrochemical impedance spectroscopy together with Raman and fluorescence spectroscopy as well as XRD and EXAFS analysis have been carried out. In order to have detailed information on the bulk properties of these compositions also microcrystalline samples have…
In situ micro-Raman and X-ray diffraction study of diamonds and petrology of the new ureilite UAE 001 from the United Arab Emirates
2008
International audience; A new olivine-pigeonite ureilite containing abundant diamonds and graphite was found in the United Arab Emirates. This is the first report of a meteorite in this country. The sample is heavily altered, of medium shock level, and has a total weight of 155 g. Bulk rock, olivine (Fo79.8-81.8) and pyroxene (En73.9-75.2, Fs15.5-16.9, Wo8.8-9.5) compositions are typical of ureilites. Olivine rims are reduced with Fo increasing up to Fo96.1-96.8. Metal in these rims is completely altered to Fehydroxide during terrestrial weathering. We studied diamond and graphite using micro-Raman and in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction. The main diamond Raman band (LO=TO mode at ~1332 c…
Modeling bismuth insertion in 1D hybrid lead halide TMSO(Pb x Bi y )I3 pseudo-perovskites
2022
Abstract The structures of the disordered 1D (pseudo-)perovskites of general TMSO(Pb x Bi y )I3 formulation [TMSO = (CH3)3SO+], obtained by doping the TMSOPbI3 species with Bi3+ ions, are investigated through the formulation of a statistical model of correlated disorder, which addresses the sequences of differently occupied BI6 face-sharing octahedra (B = Pb, Bi or vacant site) within ideally infinite [(BI3)−] n chains. The x-ray diffraction patterns simulated on the basis of the model are matched to the experimental traces, which show many broad peaks with awkward (nearly trapezoidal) shapes, under the assumption that the charge balance is fully accomplished within each chain. The analysis…
